Hades, the most misunderstood Greek God of the Greek mythology. The disney movie Hercules depicted Hades as this vilain when really when you grow older, you realise how misundertood he was compared to others. The God who was forced to take over the Underworld against his will. The God who remained as faithful and loving to his wife Persephone. Despite his little flaws here and there, Hades proved himself to be as great as Zeus and Poseidon.
You ok that’s the point he wants you to think that but he was forced when he was banished from heaven from starting a war and trying to take gods place because he thought he was charming if you don’t take your my master is the devil and we get low head ah on some were you weird af
Right?! Zeus is a freakin sex addict and Poseidon raped a virgin priestess, causing her to be cursed by Athena and turned into the gorgon that is Medusa. Both are just horrible gods. And here we have Hades: loving husband and potential family man (that is if they did have children). It’s obvious that these people are just jealous of Hades cause he truly did have it made. I myself may be jealous too of Hades, but I am one of those people who applaud and admire him. His and Persephone’s relationship shows that it is never too late to find love and happiness. Nobody wants to be alone forever.
My first operatic experience, a long time ago, was a production of the 1750's masterpiece by Christoph Willibald Gluck, called "Orpheus and Eurydice" in it the hero a musician uses his magical lyre to charm the infernal creatures of the underworld like the Furies and the 3 headed dog in order to reach Hades and then rescue his deceased wife Eurydice. I was struck by the incredibly atmospheric music depicting the enraged Furies and other demonic creatures and how he tames them and then we have the exquisite scene and its lovely "Dance of the Blessed Spirits" where Orpheus discovers his wife who lives in a blissful half existence. Gluck was partly influenced by a previous great composer the French Rameau who in his "Castor and Pollux" has an evocative scene in the underworld where Castor has gone to rescue his brother from the world of the dead. This is actually the story behind the Gemini (Twins) story of the Zodiac.
What would've happened had Hades and Poseidon (Neptune) succeeded in overthrowing Zeus (Jupiter) after the three overthrew their father Cronus and the other older order of Titans ? 🤔
