- This is a great and rare clip of the Coverdale/Page project rehearsing for their 1993 Japanese Tour. The band really rocks hard on In My Time Of Dying.

The genius of Jimmy Page exposed raw and beautiful
10 years after he quit heroin in 1983, fast playing Page is back,he was on fire in album with Coverdale! I was lucky enough to see them in concert in Japan, the audience went berserk when they played Custard Pie!
Page has never failed to kill this song live. Just quintessential Zeppelin. His flair for the dramatic, and his rhythm playing are really one of a kind
Wow! This just popped up in my feed today,
Ohh Jimmy! My fave guitarist ❣️
in my opinion the Coverdale /Page album is some of Jimmy s best playing since 1977... I wish they would have done more together. ..I am a Zeppelin purist but Page and Covertune was a great combo
fuck your opinion, fuck coverdale.
yeah man, I think is best post Zep writing for sure. I think when Plant heard that LP he was like WTF he sounds GREAT! I have to work with him and not let him work with that other guy. P&P was GREAT but they should have got JPJ involved.
It is a damn good album...live tho was another matter, saw some footage from Japan, coverdale was horrible I thought. I think Jimmy cut that tour short too.
@Sun Cat. Such a classy post. Stay classy mmmk?
ChefandGuitar InChrist covertune hahahaha, nice nickname!
Coverdale/Page what an amazing collaboration. DC’s vocals are absolutely haunting accompanied by Jimmy’s playing - fantastic clip thank you Mark Zep for posting!
Jimmy was back and very healthy and playing amazingly like he did in the past
yeah I think Plant heard their LP was like FUCK is that Jimmy!? Let me give him a call
What amazes me is how precise Jimmy's playing is here. It's like he's back doing studio work trying to hit the first take spot on. And Coverdale.. I'm gaining more and more respect for that guy as I learn more and more about him from RUclips..his personality in interviews, his intelligence, his respectfulness and admiration for Page. Seems like a very grounded guy.
absolutely echo those thoughts, George; although I have always had a very high regard for David Coverdale and knew him to be a dedicated, hard working, skilled musician and vocalist. Love his voice so much more than Roberts, for the depth and range and that growly deep, sexy thing he does. Curls me toesies. :) And Jimmy is a Beast in the best way!!
Moody, yes thank you. David has a depth to him that Plant doesn't have. On top of that, Plant's an egotistical ass. :)
Coverdale , commercial or not, has always been a true professional
Page does nothing that my 14yr old can't lot if tosh talked by the cult of jp. He's a posturing nurk
@Tony Smith - HAhahahaha! Really?
Fuck outta here about your kid - does your kid WRITE PLATINUM SELLING SONGS ?
Yea, thought so .....
what stupid fucking comment .... "YAY!!" for your kid ...... post your boring shit on Facebook for your stupid validation check , no one here really gives a shit
Page's bluesy guitar really worked with Coverdale's voice...NT
Jimmy I love you dude... Unbelievably Amazing !!!
Absolutely amazing. I really wish one of them would get to work on that planned 30th anniversary box set, and clean this one up and add it in there.
Goose bumps !!! Jimmy is spotless here !!
Excellent blues guitar playing Jimmy!!
This is a gem!
J Pips your profile picture really rocks this video, damn it it's wonderful!
Such an amazing guitarist....I have goosebumps listening to this...
The only thing missing is at the very end on the orignal....when someone coughed in the studio and Plant sang: "Cough..."
Amazing how talented his slide work is, yet not too many released songs actually have him playing slide.
Good point.
Besides ‘In My Time of Dying’ I can’t even think what other songs he ever used a slide on.
‘Traveling Riverside Blues’
-studio version (never played live that I’m aware of).
‘Dancing Days’ ? Maybe?
‘Key to the Highway’ ? Not sure, I’ll have to listen.
‘Hats off to Roy Harper’ not a popular one.
@@ezsmith3765 What Is and What Should Never Be
@@ezsmith3765tangerine solo uses slide I believe
At last a clip show JP just how good he really was when clean instead of endless clips of him playing when he’s doped up
At last? There are lots of videos of him playing amazing ? Do you consider royal albert hall and song remains the same to be doped up playing? How about the Many great performances from the outrider tour that are out there on video. And how about the amazing performances from the page and plant tours of 95 and 98 all of which exist on pro shot video and are on you tube. The best guitar he played after 1973 was in 98 with plant and them you have the many videos with the black crowes where Jimmy is on fire at every concert. This video with coverdale is nothing compared to all the stuff I just listed . Endless clips of Jimmy paying doped up do not exist there are some but they are not endless . There are far more videos of page playing amazing then there are videos of him doped up. He stopped using drugs in 1983 and 95 percent of everything after that shows great playing . There are endless clips of page playing great the ones where he plays bad are in the minority.. if this is the first clip you seen of page playing good you have not been looking very hard and this clip is good but not his best effort . I have seen a couple of hundred hours worth of better playing from page then this .
No doubt, this current society loves to tear people down, so sad.
No doubt, this current society loves to tear people down, so sad.
My hat is off to the lucky person to film this and A Big Thank You for posting this!!!!
Awesome jam and rehearsal! I agree Coverdale Page is a great album! It would have been nice for them to do another one!
Coverdale/Page was the best Rock CD of the 90`s.
I absolutely LOVE Coverdale Page
As far as rock guitarists, when he was straight Jimmy Page was king. Simply better than everybody!
Amen Constantine.
He was already off the heroin and playing better than ever. This is why Robert came back to Jimmy, cuz Jimmy was on fire, were listening to the proof. Holy $**t Jimmy
@@chrissy3938
Agree 👍.. so glad Jimmy came back to us! We could have lost him, like so many others. He was so messed up for awhile. He sounds like the Jimmy from the late 60s,early 70s!!
People forget the dark shadow of " better than everybody "
Ritchie blackmore i believe :)
@@Nissardpertugiu That's a fact. And Blackmore is NOT known for handing out praise. Certainly not like that. Page is best. But I DO love me some Blackmore!!!
Thank you for posting !!
👏👏
Simply put:
THE GUITAR & THE VOICE together.
MONSTERS.
I am very biased, because Zeppelin is my favorite band and Page is my favorite guitar player, but if anyone thinks that this is not VERY GOOD guitar playing then they are just haters.
RUclips never ceases to surprise me.. thanks for the share!!
Amazing!
Thanks for posting this. This is wonderful.
Oh God...play it Jimmy!!
Coverdale worked with two of my favourite guitarists - Page and Blackmore
Jimmy just cooking here, fucking Demi god of guitar, dude is off the chain, I love this fucking guy I would do anything to meet him I would beg him to jam one song with me and I could die a happy man after , long live Led Zeppelin
Priceless video! Thanks for this treasure!
Thank You for ALL your many posts, much appreciated
Jimmy's the best at the slide bar...way beyond ...bad to the bone..and other songs.
70s Rock LB: Rubbish! This is pedestrian in the extreme. Get a life!
You have no idea what you are talking about. I suggest you give your opinions a rest and try and grasp walking upright!
1:33 a typical jimmy's gesture.
When I started playing the guitar this was one of the first few songs I attempted, well the slide part because it looked fun, but I had no steel slide so I used my Ikea tea light holder; it worked surprisingly well
Brilliant
Wish Coverdale was louder. Sounds damn good.
Singers have to be loud to be heard over Jimmy in this session particularly, but Plant damaged his voice doing that.
@@heliotropezzz333 Coverdale have a much much deeper voice too
Perfect
FOOGIN' ELL GOOD!
Jimmy Page & Denny Carmassi kicking serious ass here!
I was just wondering who the drummer was. Amazing.
Denny Carmassi is a badass
Denny is the one guy who could of played in Zep. He's also classically trained in jazz.
Denny was all over this. Impressive.
Could you imagine being in that room??!!
I love that old cheap Danelecto, and how he managed to pull off one of the greatest Led Zeppelin songs of all time on it. I wish he'd used it for the 2007 concert.
JP otherworldly slide. My dad taught me a little slide it is not easy!❤️Coverdale as well❤❤️😎🎵
Wow Outstanding Bravo
superb
Damn...purely badass.
Page slide solo is fantastic.
Is that Pagey's Danelectro of Kashmir fame? Btw, imo Physical Graffiti was Zep's masterpiece album.
I used to have one just like it.
Strangely most other players make the Dano sound crap 🤪
Just a thought: I found about 2 hours of outtakes from Headley Grange in a box in my loft recently. I burned them onto discs years ago and forgot about them. Its just Page and Bonham playing tight together on odd time signatures and sub James Brown riffs and generally having fun. It's an awesome racket! This is 'Drum And Bass' circa early '70s!
I read as far as 'I burned them' and had to deal with the shock before reading on.
Can you post that online somewhere?
@@heliotropezzz333 I burned them onto CDs. Have you never heard the expression?
@@cjaquilino Not a chance!
@@andythomas706 Yes of course, but as I said I was describing my reaction after reading the words 'I burned them' until I read the rest of the sentence.🙂
Jimmy genius!🎸😘
I know that you love him.
@@gorankling6097
The first sound I heard at birth was Jimmy's guitar - I was born listening to Stairway To Heaven. I was a crybaby and my mom soothed me with this song. I grew up listening to Led Zeppelin, they made the fantastic soundtrack of my life. Jimmy formed Zeppelin. And so yes, I love him very much! 😊
@@marciashiraishi5891
Wonderful!
@@marciashiraishi5891
Yeah, there are so many girls and women who love Plant. But I think that Jimmy deserves some love aswell.
@@gorankling6097
I don't know if James Patrick Page, the man, was loved with true love but surely that Jimmy Page, the famous guitarist, received a lot of love!
that looks like fun... I'd like to get a shot singing while Jimmy practices in the background, I know the lyrics too. Hey Jimmy, give me a call sometime?
EPIC!
One bad mfn jam right there
Page has to be the greatest guitarist ever...unbelievable watching this
Mark Prybyla idiot
Mark Prybyla: You're kidding right? Greatest guitarist ever? I don't think so. Not by a long chalk. I'm guessing you haven't listened to people like Leo Kottke, Michael Hedges or Richard Thompson to name three. Or if its 'slide' you're talking about, try Derek Trucks who played this good when he was 13. There is footage of his debut with The Allman Brothers elsewhere on here. There is also footage of Bukka White performing Shake Em on Down. Of course, there is another superb slide player who, unlike Page, has been very busy producing some of his finest work for the past 40 years. Jeff Beck!
Andy Thomas Alleluia someone talking sense. This playing is just so average. But hey if Page blew his nose theirs pepole out there that would call it genius. Laughable really. The funny part is how pissed off they get when you point out his oh so obvious mediocrity.
Mark Prybyla- While there are phenomenal guitarists like Hendrix, Peter Green, David Gilmour, and Roy Buchanan, Page is my go to. One of my favorite guitarists, and an even better composer.
Whatever floats your boat. For me, Gilmour has a 'sound' a 'tone' that is all his own. As a guitar player, he isn't remotely phenomenal I'm afraid!
Look 👀 at all those amps 😎😎😎😎😎👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Brilliant slide playing 👍👍
Good one
Pretty awesome !!
It's called "In My Time Of DYING" not "....Daying"!
Plant wussed out after ‘75 ,Coverdale at his age still had his balls ,singing
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I have a Danelectro identical to Jimmy's and they are fucking cool guitars! There's nothing better for slide.
The closest we got to this was Page with the Black Crowes
Coverdale didn't do his homework on this one 😄
Page brilliant 👏
Super duet 👏👏👏🎸🎤❗❗❗
COVERDALE!!!!!!
Jimmy Page is a brilliant guitarist/producer. I don't think he chooses crap performers because he holds himself to such a high standard. Playing live drugged? Yep. But in the studio, he produced brilliantly until heroin took over. A perfectionist. Coverdale does a good job. If he sucked, I doubt Page would have considered him. In this video? Page is kicking shit!!!
boogiebabe67 trust me, coverdale doesn't suck at all
@@trippydragon5486 Coverdale's only sin is a crappy lyric or too. Get him into something like "Blindman" or "Take Me For A Little While" - the guy flat shines.
👍🇬🇧❤
A slide and Tele clinic. Great duo here. Shame they split so soon.
Heavy 🪨
David is a baritone and Robert is a tenor big diff in where they come from vocally. still david can wail hard on this shrieker
Wow! An educated musical opinion. Who'd a thunk it! In all seriousness, with all the Plant crotch grabbers who base their "coverversion" comments only look at the 1987 image, which sure was invoking some shades of Plant. Musically, different story.
Page is on...
Jimmy "let's go jam a bit" walks in, sees wall of Marshalls
Perfect band, fastastic musicians's
Liken this!!!
From Boleskine to my iPhone.
I had front row tix for Coverdale/ Page show for Dallas, Tx but was cancelled shortly after....bummer 😭
What could have been
I thought they were good, but I also am true
Zeppelib, David Coverdales has a great voice
But Robert Plant is best!!! Yes when Jimmy was straight
He played best 👍
Hey Andy Thomas as opposed Percy warning to sound like Steve Marriott who page wanted originally
Poor Steve Marriott lucked out on some good offers. The Stones also wanted him, well Keith did. Mick said no after Steve 'upstaged' him at a trial session.
I remember vividly being taken to jimmy's storage facility at this time with Lionel, his tech And I got to see the pedal board and all sorts of cool stuff. I'm not sure where this would be, perhaps nomis studios ? Or john henrys? I have no idea but like all of us I loved this project! Oh the gems that passed me by back then mind you this was nirvana and grunge's time, zep was not at the peak of its power or as hip (even though it actually was)
Wow, Zep not hip!? and here I thought they layed the foundation for others. Some ppl just are not happy. Saw Led Zeppelin in 1977 at the Oakland, Ca Coliseum the Stonehenge Tour - classic
Edit: Judas Priest opened with Rick Derringer being the second performer.
Sounds like Zep!!!.😀😀😀😀😎😎😎
Prior to this...
Page: Come on Robert, let's do something together.
Plant: No way man. Do your own thing without me.
Page achieves platinum success with David Coverdale and without Plant...
Plant: DaFuQ aRe YoU dOiNg JiMmY?!?! I oWn YoU!!!
To me, that's what happened in a nutshell.
Ohh, so you were in their inner circle to hear conversations? No you weren’t!
Coverdale automatically catapulted into tribute band mode
+alan simpson It'd be cool to see more of Jimmy Page in the studio like this, he was really insightful watching him in It Might Get Loud. You're right about the tribute band vibes with Coverdale, the man is a great singer though.
Imo, Page needs to go in a different direction with his choice for singer. To me, Grace Potter could bring something fresh and unique to new songs and old Zeppelin songs
alan simpson : Is that tough on a singers career?
Coverdale was the very first 'Robert Plant' tribute act when he was in Deep Purple wasn't he? Or did I miss something?
alan simpson Yes, he’s out of his element here 🤦♂️🤦♂️ and he knows it.
in another life...
David sounds sick changing the arrangement a little bit
LOL...it must have been almost impossible standing in that room with those Marshalls blasting, the drums sound like pillows in comparison...LOL
@
My original composition inspired by Jimmy page style of playing.
Page e Coverdele dispensa comentários 🤘🤘🤘
HE'S VERY COMFORTABLE AROUND A GUITAR .....
весьма не плохо
Drummers not to shabby himself, anyone know who it is ?
Im guessing denny carmassi but i could be wrong
Denny Carmassi from Montrose, Heart, and Coverdale Page
Jimmy was just desperate to play Zep music with anyone.
Alex Scott: How sad is that?
Alex Scott- While I love Robert exponentially more, Coverdale is an extremely talented man in his own right. If you don't like his 80s material, I impress upon you to listen to his 1977 LP, White Snake (not the the 87 eponymous album).
He's an airbrushed trouser salesman. That's it!
I totally agree! And yes he did want to continue playing, but it was Robert Plant who was the one who didn't want to. On top of that, Plant never wanted to ever sing Stairway to heaven again...which I find bizzare!
Uh, so am I.🤨
He could easily replace plant
In my time of "daying"?
In My Time Of Daying?
