To me Verspertine is the best Album from Björk. It is so fragile but wonderful and magical. Like Björk herself.

I agree with that. IT's an Album that goes under your skin. Crawling gently into your heart. It has a musical concept that unified the all Album. I'm glad she didn't compromise on that. And her musical experiments came to a high achievement but also very communicating. It's one if the most perfect Albums in the 20 century

I love the interpretation that she is the embodiment of life while he is the opposite. My view of it is more about the girl representing the ideal way of living: without pain, death, corruption. And the male represents realism, the objective, unfeeling way that nature influences living beings. The union of the two is the balance that allows someone to live a full, happy life, knowing that although things are far from perfect, there is still happiness to be found and experienced.

24 years ago i played this song everyday. I had first landed in America full of hopes and dreams. All alone America was an Alien land with indifferent people. I wound up on the street desperate to die. Now iIm back in my home country listening to this song blessed with a humble job taking care of a beautiful woman and three wonderful children. Like this song there is bliss, joy and love in this dark, sorrowful world.

Apparent opposites reconciling and understanding they're not separate but two aspects of the nature of existence, not the same but equal. No more duality, we are ONE. "One hand loves the other so much on me..."
I truly loved this. Thank you very very much.

About the album 'Vespertine' #Bjork explained that "the key to what we were looking for was taking something very very very very tiny and magnifying it up to big. And it sorta gave you a sensation that you've been told a secret, the same way as if you see a picture of a cell in the body magnified very big, you get this feeling that you are being trusted for some insight information. And I guess this whole album is very much like this." 'Unison' uses a sample of St Paul's Cathedral Choir singing a segment of Patrick Gowers' Viri Galilaei recorded in 1994.

    "Unison"
    One hand loves the other
    So much on me
    Born stubborn me
    Will always be
    Before you count
    One two three
I will have grown my own private branch
    Of this tree
    You, gardener
    You, discipliner
    Domestically
I can obey all of your rules
    And still be, be
I never thought I would compromise
I never thought I would compromise
I never thought I would compromise
    Let's unite tonight
    We shouldn't fight
    Embrace you tight
    Let's unite tonight
    I thrive best hermit style
With a beard and a pipe
And a parrot on each side
But now I can't do this without you
I never thought I would compromise
I never thought I would compromise
I never thought I would compromise
    Let's unite tonight
    We shouldn't fight
    Embrace you tight
    Let's unite tonight
    One hand loves the other
    So much on me
    Let's unite tonight
    We shouldn't fight
    Embrace you tight
    Let's unite tonight
    Let's unite tonight
    We shouldn't fight
    Embrace you tight
    Let's
    Ooh ooh

You're most welcome! And you weren't being silly, the visuals match up so well with the song that if I had not edited the video, I would have thought it was an official video. Especially when Bjork sings "I will have grown my own private branch of this tree" as the character in the film brushes aside a tree branch. With the exception of a few videos where I failed to write down the source of the film that I edited, I write in the video description that the music video was made by editing film and I write the name of the film and the director. Have a nice day : )

OK. after watching this more then a few times here is my interpretation.
She is the goddess of life, and he is the god of death.
Not what you pictured them to look like isn't it? If you think about it though, it makes sense that they are just kids that don't comprehend the magnitude of their power shaping the world around them.
I suppose in this dimension or world whatever have you, they haven't seen any other humans their whole life. So the boy is intrigued seeing someon else of having skin and not just bones. Humans are a community driven species, they need to coexist with each other to have a sort of standard of what is right and wrong.
The boy tries to show the girl about death with the puppy, but she becomes very afraid of it, as she is the goddess of life and has only known that until now. When she runs off he tries to chase her but realizes that she is so scared of knowing death that he goes back to his snowy tundra and let her be.
After seeing this she overcomes her fear of him, she goes back to him and accepts the reality that there is no life if there is no death. They need each other to become complete, because what is life with no death, and what is death with no life?

I feel this represents the understanding, acceptance, and unification of an ancient and necessary occurrence being a part of life, which is the cycle of life and death. We dont want to accept it sometimes, but where we never thought we'd compromise in its acceptance, we must. Unite, do not fight or prolong death (but life itself), embrace whole-heartedly what will bring us to unison. But, before someone cuts my head off, again this is just how I feel about this song. I could be wrong. So please, be civil.

This song makes me think of someone so rooted in their own way of thinking and lifestyle, that one day they meet someone who is their polar opposite and realizing they are diff but make them choose to be what they never expected to be. She learned to love someone for their differences. A song like this gives me hope, yet breaks my heart since I've never known this sort of acceptance outside my family.

This song and this video to me is a like a play on Vice vs Virtue. And think of that concept in likeness to one's own being. We are complex. There are things about ourselves that we are in comfort with and other things within us that we detest and are constantly unconformable with. And the song suggests we stop blocking off what is so uncomfortable or else we just deny ourselves and our full potential. We must accept our own Vices as we do our virtues and this equation is different for every human being. It takes time, it takes experiences, but it's attainable. We should feel just as comfortable outside our inner shell of comfort as we are within it. Don't know if any of this makes any sense as I am just typing away as it comes. Beautiful song. No one can write songs, masterpieces like Bjork can. Good nite all!

Was hearing some DMT Trip stories and in the last one a guy mentioned hearing Heirloom by you. As your name sounded Scandinavian and I like Norse culture I went to hear it and this song appeared right after. Clicked on it and after hearing + seeing the music video I became so emotional that I wanted to comment this. Not gonna explain everything in a RUclips comment, but, to make it simple, I can find a huge parallelism, metaphorically, with the ex relationship I've had (which ended 2 and a half years ago, and lasted exactly that time as well). I've had my depressive phase right after the breakup, but not long after I did a 180 on my life for the better in many behaviors. The thing is, even though I kinda feel good today, there hasn't been a day that I haven't thought about her. I don't know what the future holds and maybe we are not meant to be together but I have a strong intuition that that's not the case and the paralelles with the video won't end in the separation part. By the way, I saw that you are from Iceland. I went there when I was in the relationship and I told her and showed her how much of a dreamland it is and that I wanted to go there with her one day. Sorry, everyone, for exposing a bit of such a personal story, and lots of love for y'all.

Bjork es un portento de la naturaleza. En un cuerpo tan pequeño tantísima sensibilidad y musicalidad. Voz desgarradora y con un sentimiento sin igual

I think it's every artist's goal to have the listener see themselves in the music/artwork. I saw myself in this, too.

Unison is a HUGE missed opportunity for a hit for Bjork. I am still befuddled as to why it was not released as a single. Easily the greatest track on Vespertine!
