I was so excited to get some climate fiction/SF on the list that I got the two first books out from the library too. (But the description did make me wonder if it would be a poorer version of Valente's Space Opera.) I've read 7/16 books so far, and Brotherless Night is my favourite, maybe along with Soldier Sailor. Im not excited for The Blue Beautiful World and your review runs along with every other review I've read. Why is it on this list? If all the reviewers are in consensus that this doesnt make sense here, how is it here?!? I'm going to deep dive the judges after I read this.

The Blue, Beautiful World's presence on the longlist has me miffed. I mean no disrespect to Karen Lord in saying that; everyone whose read her full trilogy seems to love this third book and says it's a great conclusion to the series. I just don't know why the judges put it on the WP longlist (almost feels like a disservice to Lord, especially when you consider how misrepresented it was by the judges).
I'm intrigued by your proposed WP judges deep dive. Very curious to learn what you dig up. 😉

So fascinating that the Karen Lord book was pitched and blurbed so inaccurately! No way to make a reading experience unsatisfying faster than mismatched expectations.
