During the war with the dead, little fingers manipulation is useless, so better to kill off a great character then have him just hanging around doing nothing. I love how much they laugh... One could accuse them of being terrible people for laughing at the last plea of a man who's about to die... But this is Littlefinger. I laughed like a maniac too. I haven't laughed this much in GoT since Joffrey.
An even better payoff would've been to write in some casual dialogue some time before this between Sansa and Littlefinger. It could be something like: Sansa: "Do you trust me?" Littlefinger: "I trust no one, sweet child." Sansa: "Perhaps neither of us should trust the other then." She could then later at this scene tell Littlefinger "I did warn you not to trust me" as the ultimate payback for what he did to Ned.

Well with Littlefinger, that rule worked the other way around as well.
I think he had to do that to make the whole scene appropriate. It would be awkward if arya wouldnt be able to reach him and needed multiple attempts to make the right cut.

Littlefinger was my favorite character in the entire series. He represented the moral greyness of this show better than any character. His actions benefited both sides. At times you rooted for him (when he saved Jon at the Battle of the Bastards) other times you hated him (when he betrayed Ned). He was the smartest player of the "Game of Thrones." Surprised at how people celebrated because I didn't think his end did justice to his character! For me it was a sign of the show slipping.

Littlefinger wasn’t “morally grey”. He had no morals and was 100% self serving. He would do or say whatever it took to get him closer to what he wanted, regardless of who he had to hurt/kill/betray in the process. He was a completely detestable human being and represented some of the worst attributes a human being can have. Morally grey is characters like Jaime, The Hound, Arya, Bronn, Varys. Cersei, Littlefinger, Tywin, Joffrey and Ramsay are not morally grey. They are straight up monsters.

It's that you can be detestable and so can your actions, but sometimes terrible people and terrible acts end up with good and beneficial results. And that's what little finger was. He was detestable and self-serving - but he was so good at being those things, that when he was on your team - you couldn't help but root for him because he got shit done.

It says a lot about your brilliant acting abilities if an entire room cheers when you die. If he hadn't been a good actor, no one would have cared enough about the crimes of his character to react that way.

I haven't seen season 8 yet, so idk about Cersei or the Night King's fates, but the series has not disappointed on that front for me so far.

There was a part in the show a little earlier where Arya said something about playing a little game when she was alone with Sansa. Right then I knew she was going to set up Little Finger for his fall. Guilty dead to rights. And Sansa being afraid was a ruse. Just an act to make it believable. Still think she was shocked at what her little Sis was capable of. She still had Walder Frey's face in her bag. A blood is thicker than water moment. Or said during the show, the North remembers.

There was a part in the show a little earlier where Arya said something about playing a little game when she was alone with Sansa. Right then I knew she was going to set up Little Finger for his fall. Guilty dead to rights. And Sansa being afraid was a ruse. Just an act to make it believable. Still think she was shocked at what her little Sis was capable of. She still had Walder Frey's face in her bag. A blood is thicker than water moment. Or said during the show, the North remembers.
