Replacement arrived!By the way, I did forget to mention that the original lure did have a decent strike however as most anglers will attest you can get a hit ruclips.net/user/postUgkxCbNOWAGmn6nfbCbJDmasvBq7J38KZNw2 and fish will hang on and release lure. I used the replacement lure yesterday and ran thru a Shimano Waxwing, Kastmaster, Bobber (set to sink). I found the does run deep (I casting on the flats 3.5'). Make sure you adjust your rate of retrieve and rod tip angle (up) to prevent getting snagged on bottom. Used it a couple of times and action was very lifelike (looked like local bait fish for trevally), craftsmanship very good....however eyeball fell out. I asked for replacement and it is on it's way! It was very easy to change out treble to single inline hook.
Thanks Karl, I wanted to capture just the joy of going and making something. I filmed as i went and came up with new ideas along the route so i had no idea until a couple of days ago that the full process would work and i would have a lure at then end of it. The moment just before i opened that fist casting was a little nerve racking to say the least. Cheers
Paul , you"re a 5 star craftsman and an artist at the same time. i love to watch and learn from your videos just like so many other youtubers from around the world that subscribed to your channel. .Thanks and fish on bro.
I think this is probably the BEST youtube video I have ever seen!! I clicked wanting to watch a grub being made...and now am in awe of your skill!! Great Job
I was sceptical about the amount of work you put into creating the mold but the end result (injection system) made me change my mind- you totally nailed it! :)
Piterszczyk This was a bit of pig to plan out then main reason being the expense of the rtv if money was no problem i would of cast it in a square box and used double the amount of silicone., but i enjoyed the process and the finish on the lures was of a commercial grade, also this has to be one of my favorite lures to fish, and i have caught a lot of pike with it. My favorite catch was a small pike, because i was using this with the skull jig head i made and soft plastic was from the waste pile so it ended up pooh brown. Thanks
***** this is just what im after, i want to make tails for my jerk baits, but to be honest i think this might be a little behond me, can you get cheap injection molds for them (compleat cop out i know :-/ ) just i got this idea for a hard bodied eel, i can sling around like a jerk bait but has a nice long enticing tail, just wondered if they wher out there. cheers Paul, ill send you one when i get it down :-)
A much easier way i use to make and add tails to hard lures is to make a slot at the rear of the bait and add the tail by feeding it in and securing it with either screws or pins. That way the i can make the tail flat and poured it a single sided mould i was going to do a video about this
Yes, that was my plan when i started out i want to combine the artsy with the fartsy, luckily i am a bit arty and it has to said very farty. thanks lol
Paul , ....not only you are an incredible luremaking artist , but obviously a great video artist , too . Absolutely professionally made clip , enjoyed watching for sure , ....greetz , Dieter PS : I like your profiled chisel for making the grub's segments , great idea , you've ground it to shape it by yourself , I reckon ?
This was a chisel i broke learning to bowl turn, i did not have a long enough rest. I ground it using a dremmel and one of them pink cylindrical stones. I had to hand finish it a bit but it makes very light work of the segments. This was about the easiest bit o f turning i have done. Cheers
Wow Paul! Of all of your videos I've watched, this one is your best. It is also the best one I've watched in RUclips so far. The info was great and the video quality was fantastic. Going B&W was a great choice too. I even had my wife watch it! She liked it too. Thank you for all the great tutorials.
Thanks, i remeber the first video i made and it took me about an hour, now a week seems the normal length of time to make one, so it nice it is appreciated
Another brilliant job and brand new imaginative presentation. Again again and again congratulations Paul... Would you please give an information about heat activated soft plastics which brand you prefered....
In the UK as far as i know there is only one soft plastic supplier Lure Factors and their product is lureflex. I have used this for all my soft plastic lures and found to work really well. which reminds me i need to buy some more as i am just remelting things at the moment. The guy who runs it Mark is also and ott fisherman and fellow lure making experimenter so he is great to deal with. Thanks
awesome!!!!!! I'm gonna go turn my drill press sideways due to LATHE ENVY!! looks like you have an awesome wood shop! great presentation, editing etc. Do you have someone do your camera work? great video
this was a very cheap lathe i bought second hand but it does the job. I managed to do 98% of the camera work myself, my wife filmed four shots, ( i know i should of given her a credit.) thanks
i thought i was watching the wrong video in the beginning!! this is nuts...how do you even come up with this process. i guess many years of practice...
Great work Paul....think I can just make a mold out of clay and use a 3/8 dowel to make impression ? Would like to set it up to make at least 6 at a time. Thanks Paul
Love the videos! I've been trying to make a mold but don't have the tools you do. I was going to buy a mold but want to try my own. Do you sell any lures you make ?
Any more vids in the pipeline Paul? I know how much time it take to film and produce let alone the actual making of the lure. Really interested what's in store for us.
I am working on one at the moment, but it is taking a bit longer than i imagined, it is becoming an endurance test, it is jerk bait with special finish and the video is a talkie. I took the prototype for a test spin early this morning and caught two pike with it, and manageed to get one of them on vid. Hopefully i will have the vid up and finished early next week. And then i think i am going do some very simple lures, with very basic tools, and some more floats hopefully, but just a bit busy with work at the momment. Cheers
So i take it your mould with be made of plastic and you want to avoid pouring hot liquid into it. Bob the owner of the local tackle shop used to make worms many years ago from silicone sealant. One of the problems with diy silicone in tubes is it has Inhibitors in it, which need to escape for the silicone to set, so if it is injected into a closed mold it will likley set very slowly over days or longer, an option is to wash the silicone and this should remove the inhibitor make the silicone set quickly within a few hours. Superflex DIY fishing lure making system introducing the BellyBoys family of lures This is a link to video of a guy in the UK who is selling RTV silicone kits for pouring lures. Other option inclued gellatine based, like fritz from germany or make up your extra strong gelatine recipe, good luck, it would be nice to see your printed mould and hear how you get on.
This a link to list of tools and materials i used in making soft plastic worms and moulds Thanks Link to list of Tools and Materials www.scribd.com/doc/179744361/Tools-And-Materials-for-making-soft-plastic-worm-fishing-lures
That type of lure isn't on my list of things i want to make at the moment, sorry i tend to make lures i feel i need or i am interested in the process, but maybe one day, thanks
Breath taking tutorial sir. 200000 Likes!!! but i have something to say: it's full of professional tools and aknowledge, for me it's very hard to manufacture it :(
i don't normally make lures this way this was something a little different a bit of an experiment but sometimes it is great to go a little mad with the power tools, i will be back to carving broom handles soon. thanks
there are lots of other channels on youtube and videos some are very short videos, and have nicer music, and commentary and smiley faces and some even have dancing girls, that is not this channel or video, i am not apologizing for it, but you can use the search box to look for those other videos i talked about thanks and thank you for getting to 6.24, genuinely and for the feedback
One has to ask.....what is the cost per grub produced ? Best guess is about 10 bucks/grub. I get the whole "hand crafted" thing but it's amazingly cost ineffective I have to believe.
RD S I think for the liquid plastic more like 50cents per lure, the mould is expensive costing about $15 dollars in silicone but i have so far made about 30 of these and the mould still works. The plastic i made the original from cost about $2. Would i be cheaper buying them? probably someone somewhere is selling something similar for very little. But i pulled good sized pike out of lake on Friday and in its mouth was one of these grubs mounted on a skull jig head i had carved and cast myself in pewter, It would take a shit load of money, far more than ten bucks to put a smile on face like I had holding that fish.
Paul, I don't know which is more impressive...your lure making skills and craftsmanship, or your video production values. I am absolutely blown away.
Thanks Karl, I wanted to capture just the joy of going and making something. I filmed as i went and came up with new ideas along the route so i had no idea until a couple of days ago that the full process would work and i would have a lure at then end of it. I never comment on videos. But this video moved me. The talent is simply amazing. Thank you for posting this. I am blown away.
+jsmith0802 Thanks, you also made me watch this video again, which I have not done for a long time, so thanks again
Exceptional quality video. Totally mesmerising, thanks for posting this Paul.

This is probably one of the most satisfying videos i´ve ever seen, big ups to you man.

Good job dude, you bring a whole new art form to fishing. Keep up the great work
Excellent video Paul! I didnt realise how much work goes into producing "DIY" soft plastics!
the injecting bit at the end is easy but it takes a little time to get to that stage, cheers
I don't know much about fishing or lures, but I do know you've got some mad skills for video editing. Very nice.
Thanks, i think this is the first video where i stepped a little outside of what i was comfortable with and the music kind of guided me.
Paul, I envy your craftsmanship and creativity. Still trying to mimic some of your creations. Thanks for the blogs!
Brad Carstens Thanks
Awesome as usual! You are one talented dude Sir!
It takes thought and craftsmanship...and I believe a bit of insanity to do this build...It's just great..Thanks again Paul!
L/S
+Lightning Strike Lures luckily for me i have lots of insanity to spare, but it can be difficult getting away from the ward to make things, thanks
Class bud, your a serious craftsman. Fair play for sharing your knowledge with everyone watching your videos 👍👍☝
This guy is very talented, I love his video's on here. I would buy his lures any day.
Nicely done...your manufacturing techniques are impressive as always...but the video style was very cool... fun to watch. Big grub big fish I guess.

Your film making is getting as impressive as your lure making mate.

***** thank you anyway.. coddati :)
would you ever sell your moulds?
Very good video. Good job
What video editing program do you use?
I am using sony studio platimuim 12, on a Pc, it is cheap program but it handled this well. It tends to get a bit shaky on bigger videos. Cheers
Breath taking tutorial sir. 200000 Likes!!! but i have something to say: it's full of professional tools and aknowledge, for me it's very hard to manufacture it :(
