When it comes to Ren, it's a generational question. If you're from that era then you know what Ren is capable of. No one should question Ren's ability. Ren is an emcee. Listen to his verse on Parental Discretion is Advised. That's a top-tier verse next to DOC's and Cubes's verse. Ren is a monster.
Well stated. The younger generation really don't understand how good Ren really was. They think it was Ice Cube, and they're just now finding out about the D.O.C. But Ren was really the ill one who was more like a gangster battle rapper.
Ren is dope with the pen. I think it’s because Ice Cube and Dr. Dre we’re both so successful afterwards that he doesn’t get the respect that he deserves. In all fairness anyone else in his position wouldn’t have been able to even do as good as he did. The fact that ice cube and Dr. Dre were able to succeed over and over again after pitfalls is why we remember them. But if you take away owning and running your own label, acting, and other business ventures, just as an MC, Ren is dope af.
Kizzy My Black Azz EP forgotten Classics and unappreciated albums for both West Coast and Hip Hop. Without a doubt Ren deserves his flowers, case close.
McRen held it down when Cube left the group and we all know that Cube had the voice that kinda made you pay attention to every word but McRen was just as important
Ren was on the same level as Cube. I just vibe with Cube's style more. It's one of those subjective situations. I never really compared them to each other before. I just look at 'em all as 1 when they together.
Hell Yeah! MC Ren is just as nice, if not better than Ice Cube. To Digital Soapbox Network, please please please have MC Ren on the show. We definitely need an MC Eiht + MC Ren album.
Ren just never had solo success like Cube. His EP was alright but not near the quality that Cube did on his own. Cube had one of the best 5 album runs of any rapper in history.
MC Ren is the most overlooked rapper in NWA. He was super tight as a lyricist. DOC, Cube and Ren had to compete to get their lyrics in a song. Ren seemed like a low key guy and he barely does interviews. He was like the silent ruthless gangster. That’s why he didn’t get the notoriety as the others. Of course that’s just my opinion.
Ren is so underrated he got voice like cool azz Uncle always felt like he had more 2 say still got bars he should b in Mt Westmore🎙️🎙️🎙️Villain n black🥷🏽
I’ve always been advocating for Ren getting his just due. I don’t care what nobody says, Ren was just as nice as Cube point blank. If you want to be technical, Ren wrote majority of Eazy Duz It album. Cube wrote No more questions and D.O.C wrote Still Talking and We Want Eazy, that’s it. Ren wrote everything else on that album.
Agreed. But Ren dropped an E.P. album in 2022 called "Osiris"...its hella dope, but there was NO promotion behind it and it was only available digitally, no physical CD. Tha Chill produced some tracks on that album. Album was just as dope as anything he ever put out. No promotion or advertising is where they went wrong. My opinion only of course.
I concur with what you’re saying. Even during his last days at Ruthless, Tomika really wasn’t trying to promote Ren and his projects. Nevertheless, he needs the recognition and respect like he deserves. He was definitely an integral part of NWA
I’m from Philly and we fucked with NWA as a group and as solo artist in my part of the city. As a group they were neck and neck Cube and Ren. As solo artist Cube just talked about a wide range of things and I started to notice his vocabulary was on another level. Ren was my favorite by far when I was younger, but once I got older I appreciated Cubes shit a lot more. Ren kinda stayed on the dark no radio play Niggaz4life vibe while Cube, Dre and Eazy always had a radio friendly banger. Side note, Above the Law don’t get the credit they deserve cause they dropped some G-funk grown man shit.
Was Mc Ren just as nice as Ice Cube? Yes. Like Dj Yella said in an interview, Ren's voice is STRONG. When y'all got to talking about how Cold 187um created the G funk Theory & Black Mafia Life Album, i thought yall were going to mention his feature on Process of Elimination from that Album; he would've been the perfect addition to them after nwa ended. Ren was just as nice for sure and can get more intricate and real wether he wrote and told a story or spoke one's reality. That's why I love his Kizz My Black Azz Album so much.
I’m a 49 year old hip hop fan from Philly and grew up listening to NWA back in the late 80s early 90s, til this day with no disrespect to Cube or any other member of NWA, I advocate for Ren being clearly the best in the group. I understand it’s all about styles and of course popularity plays a major role in this but when you talk about flow, delivery, voice, cadence, lyrics…Ren set the tone for me. I’m looking to do a segment soon with my good friend Sway Calloway about Ren being so under appreciated. Next to Rakim he’s my favorite MC of all time…I think he was that gifted and underrated. Salute for this segment 🫡
I think there's some parallels between the careers of M.C. Ren of N.W.A. and Inspectah Deck from Wu-Tang Clan. Both emcees had many stand out verses on group albums, but couldn't translate their talent into making a universally acclaimed "Classic" solo album like some of a number of their bandmates did. Also personality wise they are more low key, grounded, and humble; so many major labels probably felt it was more difficult to market them as a star because they carried themselves like normal dudes.
Well what happened to deck was just unfortunate. His debut album got lost in RZa basement flood. The world could have heard what could have been a masterpiece if it wasn’t for that damn flood.
I'd say Ren was the most lyrically impressive artist in NWA. Rapping was like 2nd nature to him, the way he spit his rhymes and his flow was just mesmerizing.
Lil Nation gets slept on. Before he was Boss Hogg, his run as Lil Nation on To Hell and Black proved his lyrical genius. Lil Nation, The DOC and Rakim were my favorite MCs back then.
I always loved Ren, as already said here he was a beast. Now he mos def needs to be invited to Drink Champs so we can hear his side of the story and to get his flowers.
I'd like to thank MC REN for his lyrical input from the west coast and for 2 songs in particular. if it wasn't for Just don't Bite it and She swallowed it I honestly don't know if i would have gotten my juint sucked half the amount of times i have in my life.

Ren fucked up when he went all Muslim and shit. Dude would have been one of the best in the 90s. Even though he had a couple of dope albums in the 90s, he didnt have that support from Eazy E because they wasnt really talking. When they made the Muthafuckin Real song it was just an example of what Eazy E and MC Ren had when collaborating together to drop some real gangster shit.
When NWA first hit,I thought Ren sounded like DMC.He was my favorite rapper in the group.I love Cube but Ren is an absolute beast & can hold his own with anyone!
Definitely Ren made things even never knew people even thought one of them was better than the other we never thought that probably what made NWA NWA is the evenness of Cube and Ren
Back in westside Africa, Nigeria, i was messing with Ren cos of his pen game though, ice cube got that look and character and his delivery , plus he was an actor too and that kind of gave him that age in my opinion from the outside looking in at the time.
It is a travesty how Ren is ignored as one of the greatest to come out on the West Coast. Eazy E (RIP) never wrote a single rap in his career and still gets more respect than Ren!!! Am I the only one who is mortified by that??
Thank y’all for giving Ren his props!!!!
Mc Ren wrote just like DOC and Cube...Ren had bars for real
