You know what it's the problem with getting people into One piece? It's not that it's too long, but because of modern animes that are 22/24 episodes season, the people don't have the attention spam for a slower anime since when One piece gets its first big villain was Arlong which appeared until chapter 31 so by then most new anime watchers lose interest.
It’s deff long, if I wouldve watched it when I was a kid I wouldn’t mind it, but the non stop long content is very intimidating, you can’t say over 1,000 episodes isn’t long like??

People expect to finish an anime series within a day or two lol. You can comfortable watch and catch up to One piece slowly over time. No need to rush. If One piece grabs your attention it grabs you hard. I would usually recommend to take it slowly for the beginning once it gets to the really good arc is gets hard to stop.

As a One Piece fan, I don't try to force people to watch it. I recommend it, talk about it alot, or compromise. As an example of the last one, my mom is not the kind of person that enjoys animation in general, nor is the type of person to read a book with more real estate used for pictures than words, so I instead convinced her to try the live action. She likes it and each episode has gotten better than the previous so far, in her opinion. I know she only watched animated stuff with me back when I was a kid because that was my cinema jam. So I won't try to make her watch anything we both know is not her jam in any way. My Dad, on the other hand, originally wasn't on board due to finding the premise of a pirate that can't swim as the main character pretty dumb without additional context. Then, he would walk in while I was watching it, and then, while we were watching other stuff, started asking if wr would ever watch One Piece, THEN, 3 YEARS AGO, HE DEMANDED WE WATCH IT! He can't read small subtitles fast enough, so it has to be dub. And this was back when the dub started production again in overdrive. Now, we are in the most recently completed arc dub of Wano, but not quite at what is called "Roof Piece", yet. Still, we finished the Oden flashback and started with Queen's Plague gun shenanigans.
Yeah, fair. some songs need context and english subtitles to bring out the feels and make you fall in love with the song. For my birthday this year I’m having a One Piece party. I am going as Boa Hancock and my best friend is going as Luffy. For context my bff is gay, so me as Boa being head over heels for Luffy and Luffy being completely oblivious just fits so well. 😂 Its gonna be fun. ❤
I've been a fan of one piece since 4kids episode one. Watched the whole show over 10 times and read the chapters multiple times each and I have to say I have massive respect for you blocking out parts of opening 25. They're making a remake of the anime that will be much shorter and less episodes sometime this or next year. So if you want to give it a try, that might be your best bet. It will still be long, but much less of a slog if that is the issue. Being made by the guys behind Attack on Titan and Spy Family.

Most of the visuals on We Can were just filler though and I was disappointed as hell when we didn't fight Kaido in that arc.
