Excellently demonstrated visually and explained verbally! First Move Pivot/Penguin is one of those moves that I didn't like attempting because I couldn't understand exactly what to do. But after this video I feel I can attempt it with confidence.
@@GingerJiveOnline thanks, look forward to seeing you. I find getting my head round this move very difficult- I just feel like I'm going round in circles!😂
Just watched this video again. What a truly excellent lesson which provides hope for those of us for whom footwork is a huge Achilles Heel! I'm trying to memorise both the visual demonstration and the verbal instructions. If I can remember the magic number six, I might just avoid being at sixes and sevens when attempting the Pivot😂🤣💃🕺
Hi, thank you for your kind comment and it is a good question. For a period of time, we did used to teach it with locking the knees together but what we found happened quite often, was as dancers were taught in class to lock their knees in, sometimes it was done a little too enthusiastically and in such a grip, that it was difficult for the leader to get the follower in a nice smooth rotation. In addition, my favourite part of the move is when the leader not only rotates the follower in a circle but also moves around the dance floor as well which is rather difficult to do in a vice-like grip! At the end of the day, neither way is right or wrong but just down to how the leaders find the best way to control the move but we find the way we teach now is less rigid and you can get a nicer spin around the floor - the key really is a quick, light transfer of weight and a good lead on the ladies back to help her into the move. Funninly enough we have a video releasing today at 4pm which has the pivot in it, although you may not recognise us as it was filmed 20+ years ago! Take care and keep enjoying your dancing. Kind Regards Luci
Hi Denis, thanks for the note. We are a modern jive moves channel not rock and roll type/swing type Jive. In modern jive there are no set footwork patterns in most moves, but there are some moves like this one, that do use a set footwork pattern. If you take a look at modern jive beginners moves, you can see that you can do what you want with your feet, it is what makes the dance so easy to learn for beginners. If you are looking to learn with that set footwork pattern through the whole dance then modern jive is not that dance. Basically we're just a different dance style. Hope that answers your question regards Luci

Thanks Terry, we'll be looking out for you doing the Pivot when we can all go back! Hope all is well. Best wishes. Kerrin

Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it!
Nicely taught. Ive seen it taught with locking the inner knees or thighs together - any comment - do you think it is necessary?

why do you not do the jive steps with the moves you teach ie. rock step triple step triple step?
