  • Beauty is a Wound that Frees Us: What a Trip to Communist Cuba Taught me about Sacred Art and More!
How did seeing seeing that people in Cuba had saved art from destruction under communism help me to understand why beauty is so important to freedom? Listen to this interview with Eric Metaxas about my book Wounds of Beauty to find out!
How does art affect our souls? How did concepts of beauty shape early Christian society? How does the common good suffer when modern people neglect beauty or misunderstand it?

This is a fascinating discussion and very enlightening to consider this viewpoint and how to connect Truth, Goodness and Beauty. What we can't forget is that this world is a battleground. Evil is working very hard to distort or destroy that which brings us to God. Architecture, Art and Music are one of that battlefronts so there is influence to get certain people to push the social narrative to abandon what clearly and historically lifts the human heart and soul to consider the divine, the eternal. Cathedrals literally get us to lift our eyes to heaven to take in the complete "picture" of the internal beauty as did the old Penn Station. Thank you for this very fascinating discussion!

Thank you for defining the innate quality of "beauty"with truth and goodness.. It is tangibly seen in our world in the Creation and our Creator who formed us in His image. This was an amazing interview and I believe the Lord is speaking this to me. I recently recieved an assignment to sew curtains for a bus that is being raised up for the homeless and drug addiction in PEI Canada and myi hearts desire was to create a place of peace, comfort and beauty. I have been praying for the Lord's design and His heart in this. Your interview really helped me to see that seeking beauty is not a superficial abstract thing but is an expression of God's heart. I believe He led me to this very intervew and shone His light through your amazing guest. I felt like a light came on that will never be put out and wisdom and understanding ignited. Goodness, Truth and Beauty. Thank you Eric and Margarita. This is what I needed to hear at this time.

You pursue Beauty as pillar of Christian faith, in doing so, you inspired me to take this journey, as an old believer, and a new subscriber

The same thing happened to students of painting -- At Yale. abstract was the only painting style acceptable. So it turned out that those art students graduated without any drawing ability.
