honestly, when eventually I become a philosophy teacher, I wanna be just like you. to talk about these complex matters in such an inspirational way that makes everything so interesting!! thank you for this.
Remarkable video! I can feel your enthusiasm for the subject. Incredible discussion on intellectual ideas concerning beauty and the sublime that stirred my interest to read a little more into Philosophy and the Art. Wonderful, thank you so much for creating the content :)
But because her expressions and way of speaking are beautiful in an explanatory sense, there is a purpose to the beauty, which does not engage an aesthetic response per Kant.
This video is beautfiul... Your passion and grasp of beauty, moved me deeply. Beauty is the first principal of life, it could not be any other way. Thank you for your service.
Phenomenal summary and video on Kant's critique of aesthetic judgement. Thanks so much for this. I just got about half way through and you really put a nice bow around his ideas.
Kant doesn't think you can only act morally when you're not already inclined to do the right thing independently of morality; it's just that it's easier to be sure you're acting morally when you're not already inclined to do the right thing. Similarly, he doesn't think beauty is incompatible with utility, that "there's a line in the sand" between things that have aesthetic value and things that have utility value; it's just easier to isolate aesthetic value in cases where there's no utility value to confuse the issue. (I'm quibbling with what comes at around 15:30 and following; I don't think Kant needs correction on this point. --I could be wrong.)
understanding this will make you understand the role of science and the role of religion ie. Christianity. one deals with external and physical forms and utility and the other deals with sublime which naturally make no sense to the physical world... they all have important roles to play in the beauty of mankind.... thanks for this video
I am torn by the idea of art having to be without any utilitarian function. It raises man above and out of himself. If that isn't providing a service, I don't know what is. Thank you for this wonderful video!
Why do you think art has no utility? Beauty in all forms has utility. Beauty calms and centres the mind and spirit. Beauty inspires and arouses. Beauty motivates us and gives life pleasure and meaning. Beauty drives procreation, love, creation, architecture, advancement, and uncountable other things. We aren't insensible machines.
@@SalvableRuin That's exactly what I was saying. Maybe you should read my comment again. Art, by it's very nature, provides a service. All art is utilitarian in the sense that it provides a service to our souls and nourishes our spirits. Beauty uplifts people, and that, to me, is extremely useful.
Ok I just finished the entire video and WOW....I absolutely adore the way in which you conveyed these ideas. You actually inspired me and gave me a deeper appreciation for the study if philosophy, which for me personally, is what I consider to be a source of profound beauty in my life
I love reading philosophy becomes it's a mental stimulation for me and it gives my life a wider meaning. My curiosity for depth in life is somehow satisfied with it.
Thanks for your sharing the theory of Kant in an easy way, It helps me comprehend the complex concept and feel the rhythm of his wisdom. Something beyond the language emerging from my brain although I'm just learning English, it's amazing.感谢!❤
This women is incredible!! I don’t know how found this channel. But I realize I love art. What a amazing passion she has and I have learned so much as I have binged watched.
I love your passion for these subjects. I'm studying philosophy and am excited about these ideas too. Thank you for sharing on beauty with great beauty!
I heard someone else mention the importance of distance or rather proximity, when experiencing beauty, and the way you feel this kind of aura (I think it was Dr Ellie on the Overthink Podcast),
Kant's thoughts are deeply interesting.❤️ Thank u for sharing your thoughts and making this insight relevant for me. it's really something worth treasuring. I wrote my paper clearly because of this!! Thank u❤️
I use the word “beauty” only for art. I associate "beauty" with all those things Kant includes in his definition (order, harmony, dignity, ethics, uplifts society, etc.) but I don't completely disassociate beauty from sensual pleasure. For me, sensual pleasure is also there in visual arts (for example, color) and in music (for example, consonance vs dissonance). Beauty is both rational and sensual. On the other hand, I use the word "sublime" only to describe nature, not art. The natural world is truly overwhelming and infinitely large, complex and powerful. The feeling we get in the presence of this vast universe is sublimity.
Beautifully explained....being a philosophy scholar i never thought to take Kant's aesthetics in Kierkegaardian teleological suspension but with your depth explanation I will take this idea for my further research... thank you ma'am
🙏💖🙏GREAT VIDEO. Only one important, imo, point: less stammering. Less fillers. I think you can maintain your AWESOME EXUBERANCE, without the halting language by doing a lot of spontaneous journaling. Ever tried it? Just write whatever comes to mind, without stopping. Or type. It will prime the pump and grease the wheels. This practice will make your words flow more smoothly. Works for me, anyway.🙏💖🙏
But the flower, the painting does have a purpose and a function. Without it, without its beauty, who would want to live in such world? It's what drives us to progress and evolve, growing to higher dimensions continuing on this never ending journey!
Only 5 minutes in but such a great video, the pace of it was perfect for a guy like me, great job. Do you have videos or could you make some more on objectivity in art? It seems to me like it is the biggest question to art philosophy. Thanks in advance and thanks again for the video
Kant created one of the most incomprehensible concepts of philosophy. You have to be a wise person to understand. In Critique of Pure Reason, Kant says that this book cannot be understood by the public
I got the same computer as you. Its beautifully designed and it also works very well. i think thats what differentiated apple from any other computer company.
Thank you so much! I have an oral exam (presentation) and I live in Germany! Your video was the best one I could find! Do you know about the aesthetics of Schiller?
Beauty is not a loaded term. Beauty is a pure and simple. People's inability to perceive that pure, essential reality make it appear loaded. That's just what I think. But it does appear to be both objective and subjective, that we can agree on.
Beauty is only relevant if one can see it where hardly anyone else could and adequately transmit that finding. Glorifying beauty without making that notion extremely evident can have disastrous effects.
Oh, AI art just popued out recently, and... I'm watching this video as a AI hobbist, involved into kinds of drama about profits (functions) / intergrity (utility), and trying to snap out myself if AI can bring us some idea about art (of statistic?) out from nature (randomness, although technically "pseudo"), from somewhere no one cares about at this moment.
Why is no one in the comments trying to have a diacussion on the subject? Its like a legion of bots congratulating about how great the video and you are lol...
1:02 The image used here (and in the thumbnail of the video) as the portrait Kant is in fact not a portrait of Kant, but of Friedrich Heinrich Jacobi.
honestly, when eventually I become a philosophy teacher, I wanna be just like you. to talk about these complex matters in such an inspirational way that makes everything so interesting!! thank you for this.
Tone down the extreme hamminess when it's your turn.
Remarkable video! I can feel your enthusiasm for the subject. Incredible discussion on intellectual ideas concerning beauty and the sublime that stirred my interest to read a little more into Philosophy and the Art. Wonderful, thank you so much for creating the content :)
Your expressions and way of speaking and explaining is in itself example of beauty.
But because her expressions and way of speaking are beautiful in an explanatory sense, there is a purpose to the beauty, which does not engage an aesthetic response per Kant.

Oh I wish you were my art & philosophy teacher! I appreciate your enthusiasm
I highly appreaciate this work and huge ammount of knowledge. thank you. I am looking forward to further videos alike. Best of luck
thank you for explaining Kant better than the article I was reading!! I learned so much from this video!!

this video literally saved me for a paperwork, thank you for your passion in this subject and also for explaining it so freaking good!!! Keep going :)
Is this strange that am reading Kant's book out of pleasure ?
understanding this will make you understand the role of science and the role of religion ie. Christianity. one deals with external and physical forms and utility and the other deals with sublime which naturally make no sense to the physical world... they all have important roles to play in the beauty of mankind.... thanks for this video
I love your expansion on Kant's notion of disinterested pleasure; your examples really elucidated it for me so thank you for sharing!
The conversations around beauty are so important. Thank you.
Great video, one can clearly see your passion for the subject. You explained everything in a superb way. Thanks!
The best explanation of Kant's ideas about beauty ever!

You could also argue that it has pharmaceutical benefits for the mind.
I love your passion. You also relate these complex ideas in a very comprehensible manner too.
Ok I just finished the entire video and WOW....I absolutely adore the way in which you conveyed these ideas. You actually inspired me and gave me a deeper appreciation for the study if philosophy, which for me personally, is what I consider to be a source of profound beauty in my life
This is such a nice video. It helped me explain points even better while writing my paper. Thanks a lot!

I really love how you personalize aesthetic theory. Thank you!
This women is incredible!! I don’t know how found this channel. But I realize I love art.
What a amazing passion she has and I have learned so much as I have binged watched.
I know it’s hard to imagine but women like men also have names.
They’re not called the woman.
I love your passion for these subjects. I'm studying philosophy and am excited about these ideas too. Thank you for sharing on beauty with great beauty!
Your explanation so sublime...... brava!!!!
incredible video! always a gift to learn from someone so passionate
I heard someone else mention the importance of distance or rather proximity, when experiencing beauty, and the way you feel this kind of aura (I think it was Dr Ellie on the Overthink Podcast),
I certainly loved kantemplating this video. Thank you. It is sublime.

Thank you for making this video.

Phenomenal summary
Thank you for creating the content.

You're fantastic! Subscribed. 💜
Good video, nice work
Wonderful video opened my eyes thanks 😊
Thank you for this very substantial video. I may suggest that you may also make a video about Hegel's notion on Art. Thanks, from Philippines!
What would Kant think of the colloquial use of the word "aesthetic?". I don't know him well enough to make a good guess. Thanks. :)
There’s utility in any experience. Beauty is a drive.
But the flower, the painting does have a purpose and a function. Without it, without its beauty, who would want to live in such world? It's what drives us to progress and evolve, growing to higher dimensions continuing on this never ending journey!

Damn this was great! Amazing content, thanks.
I LOOOOVE YOUR EXCITEMENT
Kant says that beauty is simultaneously subjective and universal. How is the reconciliation possible?
Love this and your enthusiasm, you're great to listen to! May I recommend a better microphone and background that's not got crushed whites though?
Thanks maam ..great ..plz make other one about hegal
HEGEL NOT "hegal"!!!!!!!!! :D
Thank you for this amazing summary
I got the same computer as you. Its beautifully designed and it also works very well. i think thats what differentiated apple from any other computer company.
great lecture thank you!
Sublime!!
Thank you so much! I have an oral exam (presentation) and I live in Germany! Your video was the best one I could find! Do you know about the aesthetics of Schiller?
Based on her understanding of aesthetics and Kant, I think she can be categorized as the perfect neoliberal subject.
Explain. I thought neoliberals were against beauty for beauties sake.
Amazing video
amazing video! thanks!
Great❤
Do German Romanticism or Romanticism in general takes the concept of sublime from Kant ?
Thank you Ma'am for explain it in a easy way.♥️
I just want to say you have a winning personality

this is very good
Wowww!
Thank you!
When Americans understand what is beauty, they become so ecstatic :-))
Might help to give your definition because of what you just uttered.
It's been a great help

Thumbnail is Jacobi, not Kant
Prove it. Looks like Kant. Doesn't look like the images of Jacobi on google, @ all.
Who is this woman? I want to listen and know more. Can anybody tell me her name?
TESSA DAVIDSON
Awesome content ❤️
How can you call a flower disinterested pleasure when it's there to attract bees and birds to spread pollen
thanks to tell me how to see the world . i like to read psychology but cant get it
Thank you.
My eyes just glued from the moment to the end. It's Sublime❤
I think you should have quoted Roger Scruton.. at least mention his name
May I ask why? Is it because he references Kant? Personally I think Kant stands alone.
Disinterested beauty's the highest form - yet hardest to reach. The 7 sins're countering.
An argument that X is instrumentally valuable need not imply that X is not also intrinsically valuable.
This is where it becomes a mistake when science tries to calculate philosophical analogy
Why is no one in the comments trying to have a diacussion on the subject? Its like a legion of bots congratulating about how great the video and you are lol...
🖤
Do any animals appreciate beauty?
Thank you ❤❤❤❤
very concise .
oh wow, you are good
The guy in the thumbnail is not Kant. That s Friedrich Jacobi.
Prove it. Looks like Kant. Doesn't look like the images of Jacobi on google, @ all.
Does Kant believe that beauty is subjective or objective?
Thanks❤️
the guy in the thumbnail isn't Kant
is that you, my dude?
Sure looks like him. Prove that he isn't.
cool vid but why were you talking about whales
This ain't even Kant on the thumbnail 😂
Beautiful
ja it SEEMS to have a relationship with truth and there comes the devil into play...i assume you know Faust
So, when i am aroused by booty then i am experiencing the sublime? 🤔
