Blackberry!! What is Primocane/Floricane?

Blackberries and other types of berries have what is called a primocane and a floricane vine. Primocane is the first year green growth of the plant and floricane is the second year berry producing part of the plant.

On the other side of the country black berries are weeds. We don't have to do anything here; free yummy berries in late July and early august just about anywhere.
We've gotten wild ones pop up with small thorns before. They grow really well here in the Seattle area next to water.
We don't know what to do with all the berries lol.
