No Iolanda Balaș here? I think no listing of that kind without her is incomplete. Of course, her personal record is "only" 191. But the Fosbury Flop wasn't invented at that time, and, if you take a look at the landing place of those days, you'll realise you'll become quadriplegic if you tried a one! She had to use a different and not so efficient technique. She dominated the high jump some ten years, winning more than 150 competitions in a row, two olympic gold medals, two European gold medals, set a new WR for 14 times in a row, and her last WR remained unbroken for ten years.
These women inspire me to get to the top of my Field.
These women are amazons of Sport out there.

Lasitskene should be on the updated version of this for sure. She should be #2, above vlasic and chicherova
Definitely not before Vlasic. Only thing Vlasic doesn't have that Lasitskene does is an Olympic gold medal. But if you look at the portfolio overall, Vlasic is way ahead of her by quite a margin. Lasitskene PB of 2.06 which she has jumped twice, Blanka has jumped 3 times + 2.07 once + 2.08 once. Look at other competitions and everything else, sure maybe they compare somewhat similarly but Lasitskene needs a few more higher jumps to get the crown... she has won a lot of competitions without needing to jump super high to win them. During Vlasic/Chicherova time the competition was way way more stiff thus making it harder for them and the competition to get as many crowns. Just an opinion 🤷🏻

Also first to jump over 6 feet, took the world record from 1.74 m to 1.91 m, and did this literally using a modified scissor kick in which she effectively huddled the bar because she had to land upright in a cinder pit. I would literally challenge any subsequent female high jumper to attempt to clear her best job, a world record that lasted over a decade, using that technique.

Great music, great info, and the order is pretty much undisputed. Kostadinova No 1, Vlasic (and maybe Berqvist) at 2 and 3, Chicherova, Henkel.....and Hellebaut, such a nerdy but great jumper :) Wish I has the technology to make such a list. Very enjoyable.

Iolanda Balaş had, I believe, the longest undefeated period of insane domination. The GOAT of the old technique. stefka has an astersisk next to her name, not to take anything from her, just cause it was a different time, different methods. I believe Iolanda was a superior athlete.

Yes, very good video. Always difficult to compare different generations of athletes and so different countries. Today, on my opinion, the best ones are Yaroslava Mahuchikh and Mariya Lasitskene. Both of them have great skills, much real femininity and a very delicate technics, the most important for me.

Even though I can never be do that !!!! Somehow I like watching track & field, high jump, pole vault. That takes a lot of energy. Catapulting your yourself to jump across that horizontal pole....utilizing CENTRIFUGAL force, then fly = " ENERGY ". REMINDS OF THE JET PLANE CATAPULTING ABOARD THE AIRCRAFT CARRIER.

Jolán Balázs (romanian Iolanda Balas) was a romanian athlete (of hungarian ethnicity) who established 14 world records, from 175 to 191 cm, won 150 contests, leading the competition ten years, between 1957 and 1967. Respect the real history of sports.

A list of the top 10 female highjumpers without Ulrike Meyfarth ist not complete. The only highjumper that succeeded to win 2 Olympic gold medals with a distance of 12 years (!!!) 1972 and 1984.

I think Henkel has the most beautiful technique, at the apex of her jump, she is the most square to the bar-something she must have worked on to perfect. Not saying this is crucial but it certainly looks poetry in motion. I can certainly see a woman clearing 7ft (2.14m) in the future.

Vlasic has got the best legs so she's my favourite.
How in the world is that even physically possible? I remember tryouts for track in middle school and I could hardly even make it over the mat, let alone the bar.

Ackermann really deserves it, first girl over 2,00 m. In the old straddle style. Also Ulrike Mayfart won 1972 16 jear old with World record 1,92 m, and 12 jears later in LA with 2,03.
All her heights in LA in the first attempt and defeated Sara Sirmeoni another great high jumper and Olympic champion from 1980 who diserves to be in the top 10.

Vlasic never won any olympic games so I miss Beitia who did it once plus three continental victories in a row plus two diamond leagues.
I won the senior boys high jump and field events overall at high school.....I did ok at 110 hurdles and 800 but I was essentially a lazy runner. I'm not surprised I won the field events but definitely surprised to win the high jump as I was a rugby player and was really starting to fill out and muscle up by then.

Chicherova doped, so in my opinion she failed hard to be competitive. Because of that she is not one of the top ten, but thanks for the videos. They are interesting to watch

As i said previously , so many transgenders competing with women that it's hard to make the difference sometime . Several world record in women athletics are held by transgenders . You think it's normal ? They spend millions of dollars for antidoping tests , but it's completely useless as long as they let men competing with women for the result is obvious . They make hundreds of tests except one : test the biological sex of persons competing against girls . That's normal too ? I might be a stupid man , but i work for the respect of people's right ...
