A lot of ARMYs were actually upset because Shane implied that bts are under a slave contract, when in fact Bighit (the label BTS is signed to) gives them a lot of freedom. They’re one of the few groups who write, produce and have a lot of say in their own music.
He used clips of the members fainting and in pain out of context of how companies don’t care about their artists, but In the same video you see the company staff worried and asking if the boys want to continue or rest.
I do agree that they are over worked, but for the most part BTS chose to practice and make music in their down time. They are very passionate about their music and their fans. But I really wish they would take a break!
Plus, because of Shane’s video a lot of people have been calling BTS puppets and slaves for their company. It really discredited all of their hard work and their artistry.

It's not like Shane came up with all of that himself. He finds the info on the internet and I can absolutely understand why he was willing to believe that because kpop industry is beyond fucked up. And also, it's important to point out that we do not know anything for sure. As much as I believe they are telling the truth that they are ok and are not overworking themselves, life has taught me to always leave some space for scepticism.
Same it is really sad to see them work soo hard for us which causes them to faint etc.
But they need to take a vacation due to the incident that happened to Jungkook
But we all ARMYies can pray for Jungkook and the rest of the members to be healthy for their next performances etc.
They need rest they need to take care of themselves and not worry about us.

Fans are really protective of them because they also got a lot of hate and still do in Korea for breaking norms and not following certain "rules" that people think exist in K-Pop. They also had a lot of disadvantages coming from a small company like BigHit over three top media companies in Korea. RM and Suga were both underground rappers before going into K-Pop, so they constantly get hate from the underground rapping community about "selling out". They actually have a lot of diss tracks towards haters. Mic Drop has been said by RM to be the last one because they not going to concern themselves with haters anymore. There's a lot to BTS's story. I would recommend watching Who is BTS? The Seven Members of Bangtan to learn more about them and From Nobodies to Legends. They are, to me, one of the best examples of coming from the bottom to the top.

Well Shane Dawson didn't tell that the video he used when Jungkook is fainting is because he wanted to perform even he knows he can't. the staff stop him but he said that "this might be the last time we will see Chile A.R.M.Ys (Fandom Name)" so he performed. i'm not saying it's Jungkooks fault but we know that the company didn't force him :)
I'll add onto this by saying that in BTS's case, their company has been extremely good about pulling out the members from performances even with the smallest injuries. For instance, a couple years ago they pulled out Suga from all of the year-end ceremonies (a very big thing in Korea) because he injured his ear (yes his ear). The only time I haven't seen them insist on doing this (or at least restrict what a member can do on stage) is when it occurs mid-concert and the member insists that they can keep going to finish the concert.

The thing with BTS is that when they first started out, they weren’t as popular in Korea than the other groups were. A lot of their fan base was over seas and internationally, which eventually grew up and blown their popularity sky high.

I do believe idols get overworked in the kpop industry, but the reason they pass out is because they are on very strict diets..I dont think bts is one of these groups but they do work very hard and sometimes overestimate themselves.

id like to say though, the information shane put in his video was literally taken out of context, he didn't really bother to research about the boys or bighit ( their company ) for that video, so please don't take it into consideration
i have to admit the kpop industry doesn't really treat their idols well, but bighit is an exception to the rule
bighit was a really small company that grew alongside bts, and gives them a lot of freedom, let them make their decisions fully about lyrics etc, if bts overwork themselves, that's because they're really passionate and perfectionists
the video of jungkook passing out was because he didn't want to " disappoint the fans" because it was the last show on chile, bighit tried stopping him but he insisted
anyways.. bts is really one of a kind because usually kpop idols have no saying on their work, but they're really sincere and open to us about what they do!

One thing I love about this video is not just the fact that she's reacting to them, but the fact the she's doing this while keeping an open mind and giving them a chance before she judges. I respect that.👍👌
the fans were upset at Shane because he was trying to spin a story with "facts" that weren't really true. He used clips of them either pretending to faint, coughing from firework smoke, or lightheadedness from altitude. Also, he was saying that Sony had something to do with their slave contract, when in reality Columbia Records only handles their distribution. Their label Big Hit is the one that manages them. Compared to other K-Pop groups, they are known to have much more freedom. But they do overwork themselves. They have high standards for their performances, so they tend to be hard on themselves for not doing well. Sorry for the spiel, but I just thought I'd explain why people were getting mad at Shane. They also just didn't like that he used that one clip of Jungkook on the respirator, it's a sore spot for us. I personally didn't get mad at Shane, but I'm sure you can guess how it is with huge fandoms. Thanks for giving them a shot!

The best way to really distinguish each member is to watch a few bangtan bombs. Knowing each of the boys individual personality is how I learned 8 months ago.

Here’s the thing about being “overworked”. If you want to be great at anything, you have to put in extra work. Athletes push themselves to the breaking point all the time. Even young athletes. These K-Pop idols don’t just sing, they dance to every song and they need to be in top shape. They put in the work and that’s why they are great at what they do.

Main reason why Koreans work so hard is after the Korean War they were so poor that many were starving and working hard got them to where they are now and work ethics are so into their mentality but I am sure there is some side effects from that but to succeed working hard is crucial and I am really proud of the BTS for making it worldwide!!! there was a youtube red series BTS uploaded on about the deep truths behind the scenes of their shows. The things that they NEVER talk about to their fans or show their fans but they showed literally clips of the members passing out, fighting, feeling insecure, crying and all and these are all the things Army never gets to see thats why its on youtube red, fans have to pay to see this side of bts. cuz they dont like talkin bout it. okay... I have to point out... it's on RUclips Red because they had a deal with RUclips to allow YT to air their documentary. Not because "fans have to pay to see that side of them". They are always very honest about themselves, you just have to listen to their lyrics and interviews.
It's true they don't like to show the hardships, because they don't want fans worrying about them, but they also want to be as honest as possible to the fans, which is why they allowed the documentary to show that part.

you guys are amazing and I started watching bts back in march or February and fell in love and I'm subscribed to Shane and I seen that video and it made me sad too
I'm going to answer your question by saying they are an anomaly in kpop and thats why they are the most succesful internationally. They are nnot manifactured like others they pour their heart and soul to music they put out. And in that video situation was different than the way shane showed. but I will probably sound biased to you because Im an army so it would be great if you watch burn the stage and judge for yourself. its a mini series and you can find the episodes on dailymoiton. Also it is really interesting even if youre not a fan because it shows their struggles bravely which is not common in kpop.
You know the thing '' I don't understand so I don't like it'' is a American thing. Like i can't count how many peple I know from many who can't understand english or not well enough to really understand songs but they're listening to those songs. Like, I knew to say only hello 2 years ago but I always listened to english songs. Music doesn't have barrier language. People are just not open-minded enough.

Ok here's the thing about Shane's video that he failed to address. The Kpop industry is basically ran by a three-company monopoly, all groups are from one these three companies and it's not unusual for the companies to switch trainees. These companies have HORRIBLE working conditions and their contracts include things like mandatory plastic surgery as chosen by the company, not being allowed to date, being force to extreme diets and so on.
Now the thing with BTS and why their success is so notorious is that they come from a small, basically indie company. They produce their own music. They're not "forbidden" to do things or forced to get surgery, etc.
Don't be surprised if Shane gets sued by Bighit, the whole deal with slave contracts is a huge issue with the industry but their producer really does take care of the boys and they take those accusations very seriously.

Yes it is true that K-idols do pass out but the amount of work they do is insane. They push themselves to the limit for the fans and sometimes too far if you ask me. As fans we need to support them no matter what. So hopefully they take into consideration that us fans care for them so much and want them to take care of themselves. But they work so hard for themselves to become better people and work hard to put out amazing content that you see in the music videos or during live shows. I wish they wouldn't work so hard cause they can get hurt but as fans all we can give is support if something should go wrong and that to me is an unbeatable relationship between idols and the fanbases they have
In Shane's video it's not what he was saying that was making people mad because alot of k-pop groups do work very hard, it was that the video's he used were out of context and he made it look like BTS were being forced to perform, when they physically weren't able too, which was not the case.

They ARE cute, you're an intellectual too! btw, the 'a' in "Bangtan' is pronounced like 'ah'. So' it's pronounced like 'bahng-tahn'. Lol it's not super important but I try to look for helpful info that 4000 people haven't already provided.
Re: the Shane Dawson thing, a lot of BTS fans were upset with him for putting misleading information in that video. BTS has so much creative freedom, and are not forced to work until they collapse (though yes that does happen in kpop). The clip he used of Jungkook was due to Jungkook having himself decided to keep pushing through a show but he had not eaten properly and was not used to the high altitude in Chile where they were. So he got lightheaded, and the rest of the video (that Shane didn't show) were about everyone being super concerned for him and taking care of him. Saying he was forced to work into that state is a disservice to Big Hit, who has the most healthy, respectable relationship with their artists that I've personally seen.
