Why do you say he got 0% back? As far as I know, the band members made sure he continued to receive his royalties. He was homeless for periods of his life, but that doesn't necessarily mean he was stiffed. Life dealt him a tough hand, that's for sure.
@@ClaudiaGonzalezKinkyFloyd Indeed, but what's your point? I think the original comment was alluding to Danny being forgotten about by the band and not receiving that which was owed to him...which wasn't the case. What was he supposed to get back if it wasn't money? That is what the music industry is built upon, profit. I don't agree with it, I think it's wrong but it's true.
@@AnthonyMonaghan if I could speak English I'd write you my point. But in this case Danny was totally mistreated and forgotten by the band, you just can see it for instance in the FM documentary, Danny was reduced to an alcoholic and barely mentioned in the documentary. Comen on! he was the force when Peter left the band! That's my point and that's why I wrote money is not everything
@@ClaudiaGonzalezKinkyFloyd I agree, money isn't everything. I was responding to the first comment which I thought alluded to money. I get your point. Danny is the most overlooked of the original Fleetwood Mac. I don't think it is fair to point the finger of blame at the rest of the band when it comes to Danny's personal problems. They all had a tough time when Peter green left. Fame, ambition, expectation...the music industry is an ugly business, not a place for a sensitive man like Danny. His life was sad, but I read that in his later years he was off the streets in a residential home and was looked after and cared for materially, physically and financially. I believe he died with his family by him. I don't know if any of this makes up for a life lived hard.
He shat in his own nest unfortunately. The band had enough of his drunken antics and letting them down so badly on the American tour was the last straw. He’s my favourite Mac member but booze and the bad temper took its toll.
IF YOU LISTEN CLOSELY YOU CAN STILL HEAR HIM PLAYING WITH THE REST OF THE MEMBERS OF THE ORIGINAL FLEETWOOD MAC IN HEAVEN. R.I.P.ALL WHO ARE NO LONGER WITH US BUT YOUR MUSIC WILL ALWAYS LIVEE ON.
Wow, I came expecting his incredible les paul vibrato, found out he had turned to Karen Carpenter. I mean it as the highest praise: I love the Carpenters. Another example of his diverse genius. And what a voice! He was one of the greatest ever.
Marie Fletcher I've always loved Peter green, he's my fav from fleet wood Mac but I'm really glad I found Danny a few days ago, he is really quite amazing as well!
yom yawo ~ Gosh that word genius is thrown around on YT like confetti. How about this. Let's call Danny an excellent, top drawer singer/songwriter/musician, with lovely melodic and lyrical sensibility, and bits of brilliance sprinkled here and there.
@jett woodward ~ Lol sorry Jett, at a glance it looked like two f instead of two t. Yeah Mike Campbell is a good player. Petty's former guitarist right? Couldn't say anything about his lead singing. Honestly I haven't listened to anything he's done with the Mac, nor even had interest in the band after the late 70s. I remember Finn from Split Enz, and Crowded House. They were both okay, but I wasn't a major fan. As for Buckingham, I can't rave about him either. I respect his talent, but he didn't do much for me. Especially in contrast to Green, Spencer, Kirwan, and Welch. A few good songs on those two big albums in '75 and '77... after then nada.
@@slimshine953 It's his right to share his opinion and not live by your "only one person's view" nonsense-speak. I think Danny Kirwan was a genius too!
This is a beautiful song that transcends the time it was written and performed; as comfortable in 2021 as the day Danny created it in 1975. Timeless and eternal. It is so uplifting and heart-felt, is it not?
folks reminisce about California bob welch thrust into the thankless task of "writing". but few remember danny kirwan wrote 70% of Fleetwood's material between 1970 and 1973. perhaps the most underated songwriter of all time? kirwan took the same acid as peter!
Very haunting. I love his electric guitar playing, (especially his vibrato, as everyone does) a little more. There's just something very special about DK. And the covers he did of earlier styles, like Jigsaw Puzzle Blues and The World's In A Tangle, and his style of rock. I can't say enough about this guy's talent.
Danny Kirwan is a severely overlooked artist. He excelled as a blues player with Fleetwood Mac. His solo work reminds me a bit of McCartney. And I really like the string arrangements. Last time I checked he was no longer homeless. Of course I have no idea what is present mental state is. Let's hope he can get his writing and performing chops up again.

something about the sad ones makes me want to find them and tell them how much i admire and love them. and Danny your one of them! we will always remember you friend!
Bob Welch's sad passing prompted me to reconnect to Fleetwood Mac of that era. Danny Kirwin's contributions to Bare Trees were/are underappeciated. I frequently listen to the uplifting tune Sunnyside of Heaven to start the day. I occasionally dust off the Second Chapter LP -- the title song's light, jazzy touch continues to endear. I suspect it's a small circle of folks who listen to Danny's music but indebted fans and listeners nonetheless.
When the white flame in us is gone, And we that lost the world's delight. Stiffen in darkness, left alone. To crumble in our separate night . . . When we are dust When we are dust
Well said...Bob and Danny were two amazing songwriters in Fleetwood Mac and really scored on "Bare Trees." I happened on "Second Chapter" in the cut-out bin of a record store in Athens GA. This song and "Hot Summer Day" are my favorites on that album.
Sorry. I forgot to mention how impressive his later, post-Peter Green Fleetwood Mac work was. "The Purple Dancer", "Woman of 1000 Years", "Dragonfly". Every one just beautiful, lush and transcendent.
How in the world did he end up homeless when he was such an integral part of Fleetwood mac? Part of the blame has to be with the surviving band members. He once said that he was lucky that he got to play with them at all. I think it might be the other way around.
Like the previous comment states, masterpiece, not just a brilliant musician, a brilliant businessman to have come up with the title "Second Chapter" for a solo album at such an early age! I wrote "Ms Quixote Goes Country" inspired by Freddie Prinze, Sr.'s tragic death, and I really believe that Danny and Peter were targeted, just like so many entertainers of their time. Bob Welch's death was also tragic, and I also wonder.
I love the songs on ""Second Chapter". I think that part of the reason this album didn't sell very well was probably because it had a dull, unattractive cover with only his surname barely visible.
Danny had it all as a musician: a great guitarist and songwriter. He could have played with anyone. I guess he had something really destructive inside him.
How did this not make a UK number 1 in 1975? Simple! That self-righteous hag who drove Radio 1 playlists decided shite like the Rubettes, Paper Lace and Bay City Rollers was what was needed. This single, and several hundred more 'no chance' brilliant mid 70s singles reside in my loft now wonderfully captured as MP3s. Either Genesis used his material, or he theirs. I like this much more than I do what Genesis may have done with it, although I cannot say that I don't enjoy Genesis. This is as beautiful as anything I have ever heard. If music has a rhetorical dimension (a notion with which I find it hard to argue) this short song enacts a particularly poised and sweet statement, its melodies like a kiss under a tree amidst mist.

On the early version there are less strings and sax solo is a guitar solo.
Interesting that no one takes notice of the strong McCartney influence.
