Its like Martin Short is walking a tightrope of making Jerry laugh and pissing him off!
Martin Short doing Jerry Lewis is a million times funnier than Jerry Lewis himself.
Martin's Jerry imitation wasn't done with malice or contempt. He really respected the guy.
Oh, oh, oh ...
I hear in France, Martin Short is considered a God.
Wow. Never thought I'd see Jerry as the straight man.
Not everybody could hold their own with Jerry and even make him laugh. New respect for Martin. They were so good together.
Martin Short, not Dean Martin, you are referring to.
Martin doing Lewis on SCTV is art.

Marty really brings out the best in Jerry
You could tell Lewis loved Short. Short cracked him up.
He loved him once Martin became a bonafide star
Early on not so much.
Only Martin could "out Jerry "Jerry!
👍☺️
lots of practice and youth
It’s like having two nuclear bombs go off in the same place.
They are amazing!
"The Adolphe Menjou's of tomorrow" LMFAO.
I didn't get the joke. I'll have to ddg the name.
He's not kidding when he said he knows people who get 20 million a film to do Jerry's act. So many comedians have been inspired by Jerry Lewis that there are so many who have picked scraps from the master's table. Jerry Lewis is the King of Comedy.
Ace Wilcox, best comment! :)
I miss the Jerry Lewis Telethon, it's was really the last true way to show the variety acts especially to raise money. So sad how they did it.
This is really precious. I didn't know they had performed together. Martin Short is the best Jerry Lewis impersonator by a country mile and Jerry was obviously delighted with him. Thanks for the upload.
Wow, Jerry in a good mood and acting like a gentleman. They were actually a good pair together.
Jerry Lewis orchestrated a show effortlessly. He never missed a beat, always raised the bar. Truly gifted at live stage presence. Performances were 100%.
Martin Short is very talented. I miss Jerry Lewis though.
loved jerry
I miss this sooooo much, JERRY ( MADE ) America Great ( AGAIN ). RIP Jerry. and thank you sooooo much for you being you, a fan from Gatineau Quebec Canada.
Marty is a nice man, with the dancing & singing and the things, who makes you feel good..a lot. And Jerry? He was beloved...especially by all the LAAAAAAAAAAADIES! 0:
Martin short is someone I'd love to meet. Top man !!
Jerry always looked like his ‘opponent’ was always one step away from getting punched out 🤣
Two of the funniest! :)
Martin Short's Ed Grimley dance!!!! ☺️
The only other 'Martin' who could really work and work well with Jerry. Love them both so much.
Ladies and gentlemen the high point of Martin Short's life right here.
I've always wondered if Martin Short's impression pissed Jerry off. Glad to know he loved it.
sooke54 you're kidding, right? Jerry was shooting him daggers and being passive aggressive that whole time. Watch the one where Short came on as Glick. Lewis was so keen to upstage him he kept stepping on his jokes and forced Short out of character. Short is a pro, though. He managed to kill even with a hostile straight man in Lewis.
you must be seeing something no one else does
You are saying he didn't force him out of character by calling him Martin Short instead of Jiminy Glick? You may want to rewatch it because that absolutely happens. It's not even debatable.
I don't think Jerry would have Martin on if he really disliked him or his work. Just my opinion.
+Steve Fowler wrote "you must be seeing something no one else does"
Yes. It's called being perceptive, knowledgeable, experienced and/or 'sensitive'. Gabriel is right. You are wrong. Go sit in the corner and know there are people smarter and more aware than you in the world.
Two entertainers with so much charisma and magnetism. Don't know which one has more!!
Love you Marty !! 😘
I CANNOT like this enough!
When I was a kid me and my mother collected for MDA for Jerry's kid's
We made the rounds in the neighborhood in 1960.
WOW! ALOT of my sense of humor has come from watching Jerry Lewis Movies! I've been a HUGE Fan my WHOLE LIFE! :D
They make it look easy, but there is a lot to remember and do here and time together. Props!
JERRY Lewis And Martin And Martin.
Boy, these two hate each other, don’t they. They may be both icons but they are two generations apart and full of angst, both of them . A perfect song for two over compensators but sooo talented and full of experience. Thanks for posting. Thanks god they both sing so well. Love it.
I don't think they hated each other. Lewis could be really evil though. I'm actually kind of surprised he embraced Short. He probably viewed Short as a younger version of himself, thought they could do well together.
i love
Wow! Show Business in its essence--I'm gobsmacked that Martin Short seems never to have referred to this on any chat show . . . thanks!
Two legends
I remember being about 13 years old and singing the Little People song on one of Jerry Lewis Telethons! Don't remember much about that except all the food afterwards!
you're very fortunate!
He felt so happy and delighted...
Love this...comedy gold, I wonder what Jerry thought of Martin's impression...he really does Jerry the best : )
Martin short is just so good with him. There is so much Love and respect from both sides. sweet and amazing✨😌
Jerry always had great hair, ever notice that? Even into his 90s.
Hair pieces placed strategically helped give that impression. Mainly on the sides.
@@marymagdalene3004 I don't think you're right some old guys can still have really good hair, I'm very good at spotting fake hair. Ronald Reagan was another, some old guys just have great hair.
Marty Short and Jerry Lewis, Singing and Doing Impressions
This is beautiful.
Incredible seeing them together!
Excellent, wonderful
Well now, that to me IS entertainment and I knew Martin could sing fairly well but had not idea he could sing perfect harmony as is demonstrated at the end of this video. You can tell they really like each other but anyone that doesn't like Martin Short has a screw loose anyway.
Marty was being kind. Too kind.
lol Marty wasn't being kind! He is a huge fan of Jerry Lewis so he is actually honored to be with him and imitate him! That's for sure
Excellent
He always pretended to be light and funny but I think there was an element of menace to Jerry.
This was so brilliant. Just b4, they booted Jerry from his own baby, years later.
After having played him so many times this must have been trippy.
So glad that MS stayed with JL toe-to-toe. Most comics would cow-tow to JL - but by Short staying on the same level with JL, he actually challanges JL and makes him better/younger.
Brilliant.
Two of my favorite comedy heroes in one place and one amazing performances , just amazing
Lewis was one of the greatest comedians of all time. He kept a 24 hour marathon going until his 80s. The MDA should've given him a phenomenal swan song when he stopped the telethons, and there's some talk (although I've never seen confirmations) that they were less than respectful about it.
Jerry was awesome for doing the telethon..now no one does ittt😢
Very funny comedy sometimes genius types. The Nutty Professor was underrated. Marty is part Jerry Lewis finding his way with Jerry.
❤ ❤
OMG martin short :)
Pure Gold!
My cheeks hurt from smiling through this entire clip. So good!! :D
Did they do anything more together? They’re strangely (in)compatible. Jerry was a great straight man at times and he should’ve been here. He was between worlds. Interesting. 🙏
Fantastic!
Answering comments about Short outdoing Jerry. Not really. I was impressed how Jerry let Short on his show, even after Short did a parody on Jerry for SCTV. I was further impressed with Jerry letting Short run free and take the lead, as he did with other guests on his show. Jerry could be a descent guy
That’s entertainment!
Talent to burn.
Saxophonist Tom Scott is the music director. That is a man of many talents!
Goddamn..
love em both!
Jerry didnt like the "I know about 5 guys getting 20 million a picture doing your act" line.
💙❤💙❤💙❤💙❤💙❤
LOL :)
Laverne and Shirley in drag
knowing now what we do about Mr Lewis, It must have killed his ego being upstaged by Short. But France loved Jerry with a
"J".
I remember this! (I have no idea how, so if anyone asks, I will NOT hesitate to slap the first youtuber that is stupid enough to do so right in the block button. LOL just kidding.)
Great performance. Whoever handled Jerry's audio did a superb job - Jerry never sounded so good. Martin's sound was not as well setup, he sounded too far from the mic - he actually has a much better voice than you get here.
and I apologize for asking this, but does anyone know if Barney (meaning the dinosaur.) ever made an appearance on one of the telethons? (If he ever did I have to assume that it was either on the 1993 telethon or the 1994 telethon.
I think Jerry s the straight man but who the hell knows
😂
Name a comedian who does Jerry Lewis's act and makes 20 million a film
Jim Carrey?
@@jamesanthony8438 Jim Carrey does what Jerry Lewis couldnt do, his impressions are wild, true, they both do physical comedy, but Lewis stole from Charlie Chaplin
@@derekgiesbrecht1554 Mel Brooks did as well, you can def see some Chaplin influences on Brooks... but Mel is also a genius at a barrage of other things which make up for anything he copied from Chaplin.
a lot of guys get 20 million a picture doing your act......seemed ad libbed....only Short can do it that well.
Ha, that explains Jerry's no sell
Is Martin the Broccoli?
Martin Short loved Lewis and was influenced by him. It shows.
I donated money to the show just to stop him from singing and I don't mean Martin Short
Martin Short did a better Jerry Lewis than Jerry Lewis.
Thum di dum... There's no people like short people ...
Two peas.
Competing shtick. Just when I think I’ve seen Marty’s repertoire of cray-cray, he shocks me again. Sorry, Jerry. Martin Short is the King Of Silly.
Bit passive aggressive dynamic
Adolphe Menjou was not young in 1933.
I mean he was 43... he wasn't THAT old either.
02:07 Jerry did not like that joke at all. Struck a nerve I think.
Why, that was a great compliment!
@@vikings844 True, but Jerry always thought he was ripped off by others and underpaid. It was a sore spot.
Like Jim Carrey
Yeah, that was awkward and Jerry came back with the joke about Marty's hand...
Stupid and they've been better, but not this time... the thrusting was unnecessary...Short was just trying to pick up the tempo because it was too slow for him...a couple of pros, yes, but... new material would be great.
Strange mood. Martin is trying too hard to be funny and is over the top, like he wants to outshine Jerry, which is obviously impossible.
no, they're both just having a ball!
Too bad Jerry Lewis was an absolute horrible human being.
He did raise money for the charity, didn't he though?!
@@lindaf4836 all at the expense of losing his family.
@@lindaf4836 How's that turned out? All this supposed charity and philanthropy and the wealth gap is as large now as it's ever been in human history. Also, Lewis beat his wife and kids.
🤭👍✌️🤓
PS: 🦆💨🤢
Embarrassing......
Cringe to be honest
Martin Short has the talent of wet cheese.
Jesus, this has a level of cringe I haven't seen in a while.
@burteriksson I don't follow.
@burteriksson maybe you're confused about what cringe means in the modern sense of how I used the word. I was saying that this just makes me cringe because of how ridiculous it is.
