Yes! You can still find huge treasures. My son found an odd looking vase at Goodwill. Clear glass with straight stems sticking out here and there with a black leaf here and there. I wouldn’t have picked it up. He paid $2. Then took it to an appraiser. It was old, made in Italy, guess where! He took a flight to New York (no way was he gonna trust shipping people or packers) with the vase bundled like a baby to high end glass auction where there were bidders from around the world. The vase went for $48,000. It’s in a museum now as part of a collection of matching glass blown objects
Bonjour from Montréal Laura and Jessy ☺️ Dont know if you found out about it yet but that amazing table lamp is from 1960 Guido Gambone hand painted Italiano Ceramic sales for 1,7656 $ on line. p s : Love your vidéos everything is so interesting , Thanks for sharing your great personality and knowledge with the world .🌎
Laura, here's another huge way to research antique items: watch old movies! For years I used an old 1940s burgundy/white/gold leaf set of Homer Laughlin dishes daily. I'll never forget the time I was in a theatre in LA watching an old movie and almost jumped out of my seat, "hey, the crime boss has my dishes!" Seriously though, old movies and TV shows are both fun and fascinating! I found a set of 1970s coffee mugs recently which were EXACTLY like the ones TV detective Mannix and his secretary use! Those Haviland dishes are rimmed with real gold! And they are probably 19th century. It amazes me that such old things even survive the trip to a thrift store. Imagine all those flowers, painted by hand! The artistry is mind-boggling to the modern mindset. Who has the patience to create such incredible detail anymore? That's my favorite find from today, though the English document holder is close! Surprisingly large numbers of beautiful old things just didn't have a well-known designer behind them. Your lamp looks like it says "Chu" but that doesn't google at all (as I'm sure you know LOL). "Ghu" is also possible? I think it'll go for a great price regardless. It has such a classic MCM look and from years of vintage clothing selling, I know how important Parisian motifs were in that era. I love that it's from when lamps were big and "moderne", but still incorporated the 1940s-ish milk glass torchiere diffuser underneath a larger fabric shade. IIRC the style of top shade that would go with a lamp like yours would be a big cylinder--not bell shaped or flared, either a tweedy type beige or maybe bronze-colored--treated fabric with a metallic sheen. What do you think? Are you gonna put a top shade on it? Can't wait to see how you style it! Congrats on an amazing find! Re: tapestry jackets--I have been part of EVERY wave. In the 1980s, I wore tapestry granny boots with my tapestry jackets and coats (usually vintage '70s, as I preferred those styles to the '80s shorter length and big shoulder pads.)! I also collected 1950s tapestry coats! A lot of the nicest ones I found were from England. Tapestry was popular in the 90s too (Coldwater Creek and Chicos made tons of jackets) and around 2010 I got a lovely tapestry blazer, "boyfriend" styled, at a boutique in Sonoma! I think tapestry will always be "in". Remember tapestry VESTS? I loved those too! I'm surprised you didn't grab the two little green studio pottery bowls. So pretty! The blue crackle vase in the same shot was cute, too.
With the advent of big screen tvs, it is so fun to watch an old movie and really see the background decor. I swear the style on shows like the Dick Van Dyke show are just so back! I enjoyed your comment.
"Mannix" has some INCREDIBLE design, especially wallpaper & fabric. Sometimes I freeze the TV just to take a picture so I can show my boyfriend in the morning, and we can have a good laugh or appreciation. ("Mannix" comes on at, like, 2am here and I'm a night owl.)
I inherited a long antique mirror & there was an identical one in a movie, The Summer of 42. It was in the house of the eventual widow. It was over a fireplace, I think. That is where mine resides. I was given a big barrel full of dishes just thrown in. I got most of a set of Noritake & I love those dishes!
This is going to be a long one, so consider yourself warned... Waaaay back in the late 1950s, my mother and a friend of hers (we'll call her Anne) had a third friend who went on a trip to France. My mom and Anne asked the lady who was traveling to buy some Haviland china for them and have it shipped back. I clearly remember the day that the china was delivered; one wooden barrel full for my mother and one for Anne. Anne's daughter (Sue) and I were also very good friends (only maybe six or seven years old at the time) and you can only imagine how excited we were to play in in those barrels and look at the FRENCH NEWSPAPERS that the china was wrapped in! I saw Sue recently and asked if she remembered that day. Her eyes lit up and she said, "YES! It was so much fun!" I now have that entire service for 12 of Haviland Limoges "Autumn Leaf," which included serving pieces and cups and saucers, and I 'm very thankful to have it. It's a treasured heirloom and I never would have purchased it for myself. We will be using it for Thanksgiving dinner this year! Thanks for reminding me! P.S. I also knit and own a yarn bowl!
Laura, your staging of your purchases is impeccable and so inspiring. I listen intently as you describe items you buy and suggest the many ways they could be used. I’m a great admirer of your posts and look forward to new videos and rewatching older ones.
The Goodwill stores in her area are great! There is only one near me and it’s still 30+ miles away. It is just an okay store with high pricing, nothing at all like these well stocked stores. Great finds!
My jaw dropped when I saw that lamp. I was yelling "Laura! You MUST get it!" I love the yellow Ikebana piece, what a unique shape. The Limoges porcelain - gasp.
Laura, this series is so great! I’d do anything to have you come to my messy, unorganized Goodwills, follow you and watch you ‘work.’ It’d be such a thrill!
My dad is gone now but I remember us at the family farm in Iowa And we saw a balloon go down. I bugged him and we drove to where it went down. The guy ended up giving us a ride in it. It is a good memory that I have never forgotten. Thank you for reminding me of it.
We had a weather balloon go down in Ala plantation. Believe " hands" were fearful at first. Then they turned it in to Grandfather. From Meridian Miss. They retrieved "blackbox" Let us keep capony. Good cause we had a balcony. Thought I'd drop a cat. Could not do it. Praisebe.
Congratulations on hitting 200,000 subscribers!!!!! Remember when you hit 1000!! You deserve it and have done such an amazing job with your channel and with everything you have accomplished!!!🎉❤❤❤❤
Love your program! Very professional and personable at the same time. Informative, and good camera work. The soundtrack is a nice touch. Can't wait to see how the Japanese repair technique turns out. Great finds and useful information. Outta the park grand slam!
Concerning this Japanese repair technique, isn’t it a wonderful way to save beautiful pottery, china and porcelain…and keep it from the awful landfills! 🩷
Love, love ,love those grey glass bowls with the swirls. Thank you for the highlight of my Friday evening. Seeing a LCR video after an exhausting week is such a thrill.
I believe the 2 brass lamps are Stiffle - you got a bargain on those!!! I bought a pair in the early 90's and paid almost $300 for each one. I still have them and won't ever give them up!
My favorite lamps I have tons of them only buy vintage stiffels! They are great lamps best I’ve ever used! I have one in each space in the house! Great score! 👍🏽

I could watch you all day. Your videos are so well done, and I wish our local goodwills had merchandise as good as yours in the Pacific Northwest! You have gorgeous eyes, by the way!
I think you are a very positive, light filled soul. Your videos are always so good. I've been following you for maybe a year. You are so talented at design, and as a reseller, you are classy. I love pottery and glass. I live in Ohio, and the GW sites are pretty sparse. The amount of wood and pottery you find is amazing. I would love to go there and shop. This series of visiting 50-plus GW stores is so much fun! Thank you for doing it. You have taught me so much. Happy thrifting!
8:18 the inside of the top lip looks ground so it most likely did have a stopper, not necessarily because of the top edge. They would use an abrasive paste on the stopper, put it in and twist it to get a good fit.
I thought immediately of Jesse and his love of music. Although the gold paint was a bit too bright - maybe some Rub n Buff to tone it down? Cute but I am slowly learning that not everything *needs* to be a project - I can appreciate it, and leave it for someone who will love it as is.
Laura I am in love with the glass see through dinnerware set, which might be from the 80s, its so funny my style is becoming more unique thanks to things like these
Haviland was actually an American who had china made in Limoges, France. Limoges had great clay for porcelain and there are many different potteries that are limoges.
Just want to say that I love your appreciation of all things vintage. Your style is so inclusive with designs from different eras and design and many have simple lines but always look special when you carefully stage them. I enjoy your series and the energy that you bring to it. 😊
In France we have a village/county that's very famous for its pottery, especially since Picasso used to live there. It's called "Vallauris". Vallauris styles are numerous, from fat lava to brutalist to modernist, and more. But still, your lamp looks very Vallauris late 50s early 1960's to me. The signature reads Ohv (we would write only cursive back then). I hope this helps.
Loooove that jacket.... The trend started in the late eighties I'vehad vests, jackets Purses, and even a jewelry box made like this. I have the whole set from a party I hosted.... Jewelry box make up case and another accessory. Can I remember for the life of me what company they were from.
Thanks for the knowledge you bestow on all of us. I have learned and keep learning from you and realize what a passion you have for this craft. My world is much brighter because of your videos. 😊
I have a large one my cousin made for me. His are made with several woods, layered up. He hated cutting into it to make the yarn swirl but he did it!! I love it!
36:55 I love wheat design, too. Or similar style. I got a second hand 1970´s set of plates from a British manufacturer who had several designs all based on the same type of plate, mine is called "Midwinter Stonehenge wild oats". My mother had "Midwinter sun" when I was a baby, but I still remember that. Sun is beautiful, too, but somehow I preferred the oat design. There are a few more, but I can´t remember all the names. All nature-based, just my cup of tea.
@17:27 on your video - the matching Scandinavian glass pieces which are two different prices..... I have found a number of things that came in pairs where the two items were priced differently. I always ask if I can have the higher priced one at the lower price, instead. I have been successful every time I've asked.
I love it how you genuinely get excited with your finds! That’s what grifting is about for me. Finding treasures among the overwhelming mountains of stuff.
I had two tapestry vests that I loved. I think i might still have them stashed. I'm preparing to start selling on several platforms. I hope I do still have them. If so one had cats on it. Crazy Cat Lady, here I come.
The brass lamps are beautiful. The thrifted shades are nice, but a bit busy and to matchie, matchie in tone. I think the lamps would pop better with a simpler shade. I'm thinking a black linen shade in a empire or barrel shape with a lower harp..k
The LAMP!!!! OMG that lamp is a beauty ❤️. Of course all of the other treasures were pretty fabulous too, but the lamp is pretty remarkable. I LOVE this series. Great idea Jesse😀.
The wooden bowl with the swirl & 2 holes is a yarn bowl. Used to hold the ball of yarn while you’re knitting or crocheting.
That’s what I came to say, too. Yes a yarn bowl.
Yup.

Isleta is a Native American Pueblo tribe in New Mexico. 😊❤. They make excellent pottery.

The lamp is from the 1950’s French C, rare ceramic hand, painted ❤️ good find
If you got this from the Antique Row site, I wondered whether when it said "French C.1950" it meant French circa 1950.
In France we have a village/county that's very famous for its pottery, especially since Picasso used to live there. It's called "Vallauris". Vallauris styles are numerous, from fat lava to brutalist to modernist, and more. But still, your lamp looks very Vallauris late 50s early 1960's to me. LOVING this series, Laura! And your hair is looking STUNNING! Thank you for taking us along.
my favorite coffee cup is a thyme and table brand that i found at goodwill for 99 cents! i know it's not vintage but i just love that thing.
There’s a matching one listed as- 1960s Style Guido Gambone Hand Painted Italian Ceramic Table Lamp CA$1,682.04 on 1stdibs
$1,225.14US
And a pair listed on onantiquerow as French c1950 hand painted ceramic lamps, but you’ve probably seen those already.
I'm really enjoying this series. Jessie planted a great idea and you are doing an awesome job of following through. Great finds!
My mother-in-law made me a tapestry blanket coat out of a throw. It had black and white cows on it. 😁 I believe it was in the early 90s.
Loved the grey swirl glass plates and OMG that lamp. Great finds.
The LAMP!!!! OMG that lamp is a beauty ❤️. Of course all of the other treasures were pretty fabulous too, but the lamp is pretty remarkable. I LOVE this series. Great idea Jesse😀.
Loving this series!! Love watching you find things and then tell us about them!! Love watching you always!❤️
It’s a bowl that holds your yarn when knitting or crocheting.
