Before you change that out how was your vehicle running because I have a 98 Chevy Tahoe and it runs sluggish popping I put a code reader on it it was p0300
it would pop but it progressively got worse and eventually stopped running, the easy way to check if its the computer or the engine is to unplug the negative lead of your battery for about 10 minutes or so and put it back on, if everything works as should when you plug it back in it will be a computer problem if not its going to be most likely spark plug, lead cables. distributor cap or the timing (shaft), or the fuel delivery, but the easiest after i found to do first is pull the cap off and check the tab and the connectors first then check the spark plugs then cables then fuel delivery, cables should be clipped in really on clips in order, and be really tight on the distributor so they will be hard to pull off.
The "prong" on the rotor never touches the distributor cap pins,...they have an air gap of about 0.012 inch ,and the spark jumps between them. If they touched,it would rip the rotor apart.
Had my distributor cap loose when I when to pluck my engine out the cap bent back and broke hadda go down to the late night auto and use my five finger discount

Dont forget to charge cam shaft sensor....thats usually the problem

That rotor should not be hitting that prong. The spark will jump across the air gap to the prong.
