At US$170 its hard to accept that absolute positioning seems to have been left out. Is there a good reason for this? And on a related note...how could you miss out on making a Connected Absolute Origin Caliper?
So what happens when I am at home on the weekend using them to make a design and have them paired to my Mac. I then drive an hour to the job only to realize they are still paired to my Mac at home. Am I driving home to unpair before I can connect to my Origin? That sounds like a complete nonstarter. Or what if I’m paired to a borrowed computer and forget to disconnect? Almost purchased. Glad I watched this if that’s the case.
Bluetooth is Bluetooth. If the last machine you connected too isn't available there should be no problem connecting to the Origin. If I am wrong, Shaper should clarify this issue.
I’d like to know. Sam stressed several times and in the demo he had to remove the caliper from the device before pairing with the next one. I know BT should just let you go into pairing mode and pair with a new device regardless of the status of the last connection but that’s not the message in this video.
No, all good! If your Origin and Mac are not near each other, you won't have any issues. Simply put the calipers into discoverable mode (hold the button down), and the in-range device (either Origin or a computer) will find and connect to them. The comment in the video about first disconnecting from another device is relevant when two devices you've paired with are both nearby each other and you want to be sure to connect with one or the other.
@@Shapertools Thank you! I didn’t get that from the video. The way it was presented it seemed imperative to remember to unpair. At that price (not suggesting inappropriate) you really want to know what you are getting.
This is for all you lonely old men who bought a $3,000 router before you learned how to use a $50 router. We know you've got some more money to waste making cribbage boards for those grandkids who never talk to you.
Why do we need this? Did someone have a problem typing in dimensions from a calliper? What would be a good idea would be to get the software to make spindle start when plunging instead of forgetting to switch it on 😂 and off when retracted . Also some better way of making sure the spindle securing screw is tight before it starts, like a micro switch with a tooless way to secure it , safety concern really for people like me who sometimes forgets to tighten 🤪 Why oh why? Did not recall that I wished someone would invent a Bluetooth calibre, but saying that I’m sure some people have a use for this. Don’t think it will take off unless you’re a gadget person . Rant over
So the shaper has BT built in. Let it start the Festool vacuum when running the machine. That would be nice.
Plug the Shaper into the Vacuum and it will do just that.
Nice tool to speed up set up. Nice demo Sam as usual
Just bought so many applications 🤩
I'm excited about these - I foresee a lot of possibilities!
Great video. I learned a lot on this tutorial. Now waiting for my caliper to arrive.
Glad to hear it!
I haven't even started using my Shaper yet.. and something has come out that I must have..
drop the price by a 100 and i would buy one
Interesting. However at this price point, it should be able to be connected to several devices without having to remove it to switch devices.

Three word: Take. My. Money.

If it was connected to a borrowed pc, just buy a new caliper. it's only €200 + shipping 😂

I wouldn’t own the router if I wasn’t a gadget person! 😊
I want it.
