Really good informative video, a couple of things that I think would be great is a detachable power cord rather than being hard wired, bit like Festool tools which help when packing away, the other small point would be a plastic cover for the screen when not in use which can be clipped on to prevent damage and dust build up.
Hi Colin. Thank - happy you found it helpful. Yeah man, I agree on the power cord completely. My power cord got damaged on the spot that is the one that is usually on the border of the work bench, and I have to tape it to prevent further damage. An easy way to replace would be awesome. The plastic cover for the screen is certainly an idea, but I would probably be too lazy to put it on.
Thank you :D So you can cut over the tape and ruin it, but you don't have to. If you place the tape in locations that you are not planning to run over, then the tape stays intact. So with some smart planning, you can save some tape, but in some cases it's more convenient to put out the tape over your entire workpiece and destroy it where needed.

Good video! Can you use the Shaper Origin for the first time without a computer? Can I setup a shaper account through the Shaper Origin? I have WiFi but my computer is in the shop and my SO is arriving in a couple of days… Thanks for your time.
Thanks Ron, glad the video was helpful. You can set up your Shaper Hub account on any computer or mobile phone, even before you get your SO. I don’t know if you can set it up on the SO directly, my guess is that you can’t. My recommendation is to set it up even before you get it and then you are all set…

Sure thing. I always recommend an Apple computer over a Windows based laptop, especially due to the lower virus load you have on Apple computers. I find the best software to be Adobe Illustrator, although that is expensive. The software "Inkscape" is free, but it's a little bit more clunky to use. Certainly worth a try. A middle ground is "Affinity Designer" (runs only on MacOS afaik) which is pretty cheap but also much easier to use than Inkscape.

@@Woodensoul it surely is here to in Montreal Qc area ... but i found an alternative ... floor epoxy ! its not bad and lot more cheaper if you had colour your ok... cause its not has clear has the higher quality epoxy... should check it out... i pay $125.00 Can for 3 3.78 Liters its called Pure Epoxy Pe-100 not sure if the sell it In Swisserland but you can check them out online... iv done large tables whith Pe-100 and it works ... + its a releive for the wallet...😅 Take care & stay safe 👍

The current epoxy I use is about 12$/Liter, so that seems to be about the price you pay for the floor epoxy. But maybe the floor epoxy in Germany is even cheaper? I will have a look and test it out. Can you share a picture of a table you have made with that epoxy?
how is there so much precision cutting with only a hand held? what keeps the router from going off track? If you tried these designs with a hand held regular router there would be no way to stay on the line , unless you moved the router in snail speed and even then it wouldnt be perfect.
That’s because it’s not a regular hand held router. The router is mounted on an arm which is controlled by a computer. The camera faces the marker tape and informs the computer where it is and how you are moving it. Based on these data, the arm immediately course corrects your manual movements, to ensure it stays on track…
First I want to say thank you for these video's and instructions to the Shaper Origin. I haven't bought one yet but I'm just about to pull the trigger so I've been researching a lot and the info you have provided has me convinced I just might "need" one. My question is have you or can you use the SO to engrave on a round object? Like on a baseball bat? I have not found anything on this so it may not be possible. Hi Darry. Thank you so much for your kind words - super happy if you find my videos helpful. And yeah, as you can guess, I am a big fan of the SO and have a lot of fun with it. Regarding your question: 3D carving is probably one of the most requested features for the SO, but for now the SO is 2D and supposed to be used on flat surfaces. There might be some minimal carving you can do on a round surface: If you find a way to secure your baseball bat well on the Shaper workstation, the SO will assume it's a flat surface. You place the thing you want to carve and start carving by setting the depth deep enough, taking into account how large your object is that you want to carve. It should be rather small. The result will be something that is rather deep on the level the SO rests, and much less deep on the outer end of the circumference. It might look pretty weird I guess, but of course you realize I never tried it. It would clearly be trying to shoehorn your SO into doing this :D
Indeed a lucky guy! Stabilization: I don’t think it’s something that comes from a RUclips setting, because these dumb movements are already on the source video. It must be a setting on the video camera (GoPro), but I didn’t figure out how to turn it off...
No need to apologize and keep the questions coming, I am happy to help. Buying the workstation depends on the kind of work you are planning to do with your Shaper. If you intend to work on smaller pieces and joints, then you should get it. It is convenient and precise. If you will work mostly on large pieces, where you have enough space for domino tape, you can skip it. And of course it’s also a budget question. Building your own is cheaper, but also requires materials and time. If you are planning to use the SO a lot and have the budget I would recommend buying it together with the Origin, as you get a discount if you buy them together 😁
Hey ho, Shaper has an option on board to set the offset. I think you can do the offset on an another way. If you set the diamater of your bit, bit size 8 mm, you set 8.2 mm or 7.8 mm. I haven't a Shaper to test this way. But maybe you can check this way for me and give a statement? Thanks in forward.
Hi Frank. Yes, you can certainly do that, although I wouldn’t know why you would pick such a complicated approach if you can simply set the offset in your Shaper. You can set the SO to whatever bit size you want, that is the SO has no way knowing what bit you have in the spindle. So if you put in an 8mm bit but set the size to 8.2mm, then you will get a 2mm offset if you do an inline or outline cut. But I see no real reason to chose such a complicated procedure...
Hi Tim. The SO kept on rebooting every couple of minutes, in the middle of you cutting something, it was really annoying. The Shaper folks weren’t able to fix it via phone and I had to send it in for repairs…

When you were going back and forth to workplaces with just the one shaper, did you put the protective shipping guides in every time?
Hi Larry. No, never. The only time I used those guides was when I had to ship it to ShaperTools for repair...
