I love watching you guys and the “show” style of the channel. Would you ever consider a “vlog” style just once to show us around the basement bar? Show us some of your favorites, bottles that are close to the heart and how you have everything organized.
It was already done very nicely. Look for it! Happy Thanksgiving👍
@@ScottSagamoreRye thanks! I’ll have to find it!
Living in VA. and trying to find Early Times Bib is like trying to find a leprechaun riding a Unicorn in a snowstorm in July.
I feel your pain. Finding it in Mass. is equally frustrating.
Same in Louisiana..
PA and NJ too
Thanks for this update. I do love when you guys do a run down of best choices by price range. The Naked Malt is simply delicious. By far the best blended scotch in that price range. I can’t get Balblar here. I would pick Craigellachie 13 as a substitute. Tasty and reasonably priced ($48 here). I totally agree with Tamdhu Batch Strength. The batch 6 is available but I haven’t tried it. I did have the batch 4 and loved it. Unfortunately, many of your bourbon picks are not available in my area. Of course we have WT 101. My midrange pick would be WT Rare Breed. Knob Creek 12 would be another one (just so it’s not all WT distillery choices).
Really started getting into bourbon a couple years ago. Never thought RUclips would have a whole whiskeytube sect. I like it. I like y’all’s dynamic and that you don’t turn your noses up to the lower end bottles.
Happy Thanksgiving ya'll. Really enjoy your vlogs. I discovered your channel this summer while during research in anticipation of a 4 week trip to bourbon country in Kentucky. Of all the bourbon oriented channels I find yours the best being both entertaining and informative. I now never miss a post. For most of my adult life I was a scotch drinker but the discovery of great bourbons have changed my preference.
A special note to Trent, since he is a rye lover. On the trip to Ky last month I toured Old Pepper Distillery in Lexington. While there I sampled their product and was so impressed by their 100% rye single barrel (cask strength) that I bought one to bring home. I do not know how widely this is distributed and because of limited production may only be available at the distillery. With a mash bill of 90% rye and 10% malted rye, it is a very unique experience, especially for the rye lover. If you come across it at about $75 (MSRP) I would definitely give it a try.
Newer Bourbon drinker here and I went 3 for 3 on your 1st 3 picks. Great guidance moving forward. Thanks guys
Thankful for you guys - love that you connect over bourbon and share a passion as a family! Great job SLB crew!
My 5 go to bottles are George Dickel 12 Yr Old, Wild Turkey 101, Horse Soldier, Yellowstone, & Old Weller's.
Lucky Seven is Barton. It’s awesome, but it has been going up in price. It’s $159 at Binny’s these days and they fly off the shelves within a couple of hours. It’s so good that I’ve started seeing it on secondary. Thanks guys.
I love your honest and down-to-earth opinions, Great shows!
Great review video! FYI, where I live (Michigan) the Early Times BiB is distributed on allocation.
I just started my journey and collection with Woodford Reserve, Buffalo Trace, and Monkey Shoulder. Thanks for hangin’ around with us!
9:55 "Single Malt Blend" marketing words at their finest...
Picked up a Batch 5 of Widow Jane Decadence…ya’ll were so correct. I can just tell it’s going to open up beautifully. I actually hid it in the back of my cabinet so I forget about it for a while. So rich and delicious.
Hey guys, love your videos! New subscriber and newbe to whiskeys. Been a beer drinker all my life (I'm 64) but have started to aquire the tastes for some spirits. My problem is that when I watch your 17-20 minute videos, it takes me an hour because I am totally unfamiliar with all the terms (i.e. cask strength, pick or store pick, mash bill....) so I'm constantly pausing the video to research the terms. Don't expect you to babysit me but kindly keep in mind that some of us viewers are dummies and need the additional help. I really enjoy watching your videos and have already learned a ton from them and have begun an affordable collection of bourbon. Keep up the great work. You guys crack me up too! Be well!
Hoping to do a video soon explaining all the terminology of bourbons. We appreciate you joining us!
Lucky seven holiday toast is fantastic!! Picked up a bottle about a month ago. Highly recommend it!!
Quickly becoming my go to whiskey channel. Outstanding content, thank you!
Low price: Early Times BiB- fully agree with the value for money. Medium: JJ Bowman-again fully agree. Fantastic bourbon. High: Remus Repeal VI or Blue Note 17.
Hi Kurt and Trenton, great episode as always. Wanted to humbly suggest a show idea. Bourbon Real Talk posted a video 3-4 months ago titled “10 Bourbons Every Beginner Should Have to Develop Their Palate” (episode 164). Their picks were based on bourbons which represented a specific taste profile such as peanut forward, cherry floral etc. to help new bourbon drinkers to be able to know what these taste profiles are. Kurt’s palate and mine tends to be fairly close and I would be very interested for u to check out their video and make one similar with your picks!
That's good beginner advice. Know your profiles, and who makes them. After that, shopping gets a lot easier.
Interesting idea!
Great video guys! Love me some Pikesville Trent! Really hoping to find some Sagamore nearby.
Love the range of bottles.
Stepping up your game in scotch
Love when you combine different styles of whiskey especially scotch. Btw love Phil's content as well
That Sagamore is so good! Grabbed one recently
Appreciate this video. I stay in the low to medium price range. However, in our area, the Iowa/Illinois border, most of these are hard to find. Rotten house has become hard to find. WT101 is about the only one you see frequently. And the closest Binny’s is 80 miles away.
Love Scotch. Happy to see your favorites!
Great vid. Gents. Good variety, descriptions, and recommendations across the board.
I can’t find Early Times BiB anywhere in NW Florida. However a friend is in Atlanta and picked me up a bottle. Can’t wait to try it.
Always love the content y'all put out. I like to plan trips to the liquor store around some of the suggested bottles. Thanks for fun, light and enjoyable content on the TUBE 🥂
The Naked Grouse is an outstanding choice. That actually replaced Dewar's 18 for me. Great pick at half the price or even less of many other scotches.
Trent if you like chocolate notes in a rye, you have to try the ASW Resurgens Rye! I love seeing one of their bourbons on the list too
Love the lineups. Early times, ASW, John J Bowman, and Lucky 7 are some of my favorites, I'd also for sure have Hard Truth in my best ryes.
John J. Bowman is one of my favorite bourbons, in fact I bought a bottle at the distillery yesterday. Being from Virginia, I love that it’s “local” as well.
John J Bowman is one of my favorites! Nice choice b
Nice video as usual. I actually just picked up a bottle of that Sherry Sagamore and cannot wait to crack it open.
Great show. I'm all about the Early Times BIB, Wild Turkey 101 and the rye whiskies Trenton chose. I've tried to get into Scotch whisky, but just don't enjoy the flavor profile. Recently I've been enjoying Old Forrester BIB and Coopers Craft 100 proof. Cheers!
Trenton should be thankful that his head has great shape. Great video! Really love the Sagamore!
Love that you guys did bourbon, rye, and scotch. My picks would be OF 100, New Riff SiB, and ECBP. My scotch would be Glenmorangie 10, Bruichladdich Isley barley, Highland Park CS#3. I’m just getting into rye so my picks would be OF, New Riff, and Widow Jane oak and apple wood. I will have to add Tamdhu, Lucky 7, and Sagamore to the list! Cheers
Love the Islay barley!
The Woodford Reserve double oaked. So good.
My high end is Barrell Bourbon batch 29 85 to 95 dollars in Texas. these people are blenders and they are extremely good at it. can't really pick a middle of the road but on the low end I'll go with the Early Times Bottled in Bond
The best bourbon I ever had was the Lucky Seven, Proprietor, 14-year-old, Barrel #70, 131 proof. I was at a bourbon bar and the bartender talked me into this because it was on special for $20 a shot. I absolutely loved it. I could not believe how smooth it was. I live in Kentucky so just about every kind of bourbon is available. But I couldn’t find the Lucky Seven, Proprietor 14-year-old. I was totally discouraged.
As a Georgian, its cool to see ASW on your list. It's a banger and easy to find down here. Store picks are also fairly accessible. If anyone is ever passing through the Atlanta area, pick one up. (no, I don't work for ASW lol)
It is very good!
My picks for bourbon: 1. Cooper's Craft 2. Four Roses Single Barrel 3. Penelope Barrell Strength. Scotch: 1. Deanston Virgin Oak 2. Glenlivet Illicit Still or the Licensed Dram 3. Talisker 11 Year Old Cask Strength ( a great Christmas gift for Scotch whiskey fans).
The illicit still was a very nice surprise!
Eventually you will learn to appreciate Scotch Trent. You guys are spot on with your picks as usual.
I have been drinking Oban scotch for years and I still love it. Used to be $19. Unfortunately $80 now so it’s not a daily drinker.
Not to mentions prices change! Something that was low two years ago could be mid now
An early resolution for 2023 is to start exploring the rye whiskey that is available. I bought a New Riff rye this year and really enjoyed it. Hope I can find some of the Sagamore line here in Ohio. Thanks for your rye picks, Trenton. Great show, guys!
I'm in northeast Ohio,(canton/akron/cleveland) and I've seen the double oak and cask strength of Sagamore. Picked up the double oaked for myself.
@@ScottSagamoreRye Thanks. I'm in Columbus so I should be able to find them if I keep looking.
Can't argue with any of the rye picks. I picked up a couple of bottles of Old Forester Rye in Indy a couple of weeks ago, and have the Old Overholt BiB too.
Hey Trenton, I'm going to keep posting this suggestion until you make it happen...please add the bottle name and distillery to the description. Thank you kindly, cheers!
Recently came across Bunnahabhain Stiuireadur, 46%, NCF, no age statement for $45. Very hard to beat for the price.
Just a side note. The Naked Grouse was rebranded as a spin off, now called Naked Malt. Same price. Has a barrel on the bottle.
Thanks for the heads up.
Appreciate the info!
I haven't seen a Pikesville Rye in store in a little over 3 years. Great call on the Tamdhu.
Just wanted to add a comment to let you know how much I love your videos. Great reviews. I feel like I’m drinking bourbons with a couple of buddies just talking about whiskey. Keep it up.
Thanks so much!
Some real good picks.
Definitely solid picks by both of you.
I live in VA and based on this recommendation I went to the Bowman Distillery to get some of the John J Bowman. It was a great recommendation and is one of the best Bourbons I’ve ever had. I actually ran a 16 bottle Bourbon madness with many of your picks and the John J Bowman won hands down. I asked, and can confirm what you have heard. It is distilled at BT and shipped to Bowman to be distilled one more time before being barreled.
Interesting. Hmm. I actually never heard of it until I found this RUclips channel. Based on everything I've heard about it now I am recommending it to a friend who was looking for Blanton's as a Holiday gift for her brother. Seems like it's almost equal quality for half the price (and you can actually find it!).
You guys are my favorites!!!!
Great episode fellas. Naked Grouse is my daily Scotch. So good for under 40 bucks. Great pick.
My choices are low: Early Times BIB, 21$ mid: Huling Station 8yr SB 62$ and higher: Nulu double oaked SB 82$.
Great call on the John J Bowman. After your Buffalo Trace replacement videos I researched it and found that the A. Smith Bowman distillery was less than 90 minutes away from me. Last weekend I went for tour and tasting and was not disappointed. They have a 90 proof lower priced ($29.99) Bowman Brothers Small Batch that is pretty good too.
I like the buffalo trace elmer T Lee..
Sagamore's newest Port Finish released today at the distillery! Will be widely available soon.
Sagamore is killing it!
I am loving Fiddler and Sagamore right now. I am lucky in that I live in the Atlanta Metro area so finding Fiddler is not an issue!
Great video guys! Happy Thanksgiving
hard to compare as the only one we have up here, and one that I enjoy, is WT 101. I have not gotten into Scotch yet but will probably start looking into it once I have stocked up on some of the bourbons I enjoy.
PLEASE! Make this a yearly thing!!!
Also, thanks for the invite for thanksgiving next year!
Totally agree! 🙂
😂
See you there!
Great picks on the bourbons and ryes. Not a scotch guy like Trenton, so I will defer to Kurt.
The Pikesville is a barely legal rye at 51% so it really IS a good introductory rye for bourbon guys. Next step up from a high rye bourbon.
Keep it up gentlemen
Hell yeah finally the Georgia heartwood gets some love! That’s the best whiskey I own and always keep at least 3 bottles since it’s only release once a year. Best bottle of bourbon on the marker
Thank you for the channel. The channel is very well done, entertaining and informative 👍
As ever, a great show. Love the shout out for Tamdhu, a favourite distillery of mine. Already put the Balbair on order and looking forward to trying it. Happy belated Thanksgiving to all those on the other side of the pond.
Thanks so much!
Great show!
Im a BIG fan of Peerless Rye right now...exceptional rye whiskey for around $80.00
That Sagamore is delicious. Not a huge rye fan, but if I never had another rye I could stick w everything from Sagamore and be content.
Low- WT 101
Mid- Glenallechie 12/ ECBP
High-Bunna 12 CS 2022 my whisky of the year and still only $100.
Love the channel! Hey, have you tried "six and twenty 5 grain bourbon"? (from a distillery near Greenville SC) If so, what do you think?
A vendor was giving samples at my liquor store on Weds and I really liked it, so I bought a bottle ($42). They claim to be the world's first 5-grain bourbon (they don't list the percentages of their mash, but it is Corn, Soft Red Winter Wheat, Barley, Black Seashore Rye, and Carolina Gold Rice). It had a different combination of flavors from any bourbon I had tried, and I enjoyed it.
Love the channel. I found and picked up the Lucky Seven Proprietors 15 Year. Cannot wait to try. Also picked up the Lucky Seven Holiday Toast. Love that you guys still like Early Times BIB. It is what I usually start with before switching to a higher proof. I found 4 bottles of it with the black cap on it. I currently have 4 bottles with the blue cap and 4 bottles with the black cap for nostalgia’s sake.
I’m in NWI too, Valpo. Just subscribed my neighbor told me about you guys.
Hey neighbor! We live in Jackson twp.
@@slbdrinks nice I was wondering where you guys were. Enjoy the holiday season
Really enjoyed the show! Got to put those scotch picks on my list! And the ryes!! Love rye whiskey! Sagamore has some stellar stuff for sure. Have you ever had Castle and Key’s Restoration Rye? Tasty!!!
Of those six bourbons in the first half, WT 101 is literally the only one that is readily available in VA.
Another great video guys, still waiting for your Speyside whiskey video Kurt. Always look forward to your vids every week and what ideas you have in store for us all. Will have to keep an eye out for the Tamdhu but have a feeling the only place we’ll find it over here in Oman is airport duty free. Will keeping looking on my travels. Cheers fellas.
I agree with Trenton whole heartedly as far as the Pikesville rye. Getting harder to come by
I have never bought a rye whiskey mainly because I feel they are only used for cocktails an mixers. Any good ones that you feel would be a good starter
In the comments, someone said Rittenhouse is barely above the legal % to be called rye whiskey. So that might be an idea.
I would suggest a lower content rye as a starter. I love Pikesville but can be hard to find. Old Forester is inexpensive and a good place to start!
Great video guys
I picked up a Lucky 7 and it is well worth it.
Fantastic video as always 💜 hope your Thanksgiving was wonderful!
Not for nothing but Trenton but that is a good look
Early times is allocated in alabama
Love the Scotch!
Six bottles of bourbon, lined up from my left to right, from short to tall! 😂
Great video! If it possible to make some alternatives for each bottle (for example: if you don't have 101 you can pick another two variants)..
Evan Williams Bonded hits way above its price range.
I enjoy your program so much, and constantly jot down and even search out your recommendations. I wonder if you’ve ever tried Legent, which I encountered at a tasting at the Jim Beam distillery? It’s a joint project of Beam and Suntory. I’m no expert, like you guys - but I do enjoy it! Thanks and Happy Holidays!
Thank you! My brother has Legent. Will have to try it.
Can't find Early Times BiB....in NYC...!!!
Really great pic's guys! Love the look on Trenton's face when Kurt mentioned fruitcake (Scotch + fruitcake = Trenton's face! LOL). I just picked up my first bottle of Sagamore Rye (black label cask strength) at Bee Liquors based on your recommendation a few shows ago, and have to say I really like it. I'll bring the wine for Thanksgiving next year! 🙂
Glad you are enjoying the bottle!
I have both lower level picks, Rare Breed for my mid. Can’t bring myself to fork out high level money. Fiddler Heartwood is currently $100 at Total Wine near me in metro At.
Such a good show. Thoroughly enjoy it 🥃
1watch SLB"s new video. 2 take screen shots. 3 head to the liquor store. Another great video!
Low- V O Barton 100 proof, Med- Hooten 12 year (major butterscotch). Scotch medium- Buna 12.
I’m a big scotch guy and my high end right now is either glenfiddich 18 year or Johnny walker blue label, medium is red breast 12 year, and my low end can only be Johnny walker black label
I think you should do this perhaps quarterly. I would bet that more than just myself is constantly looking to acquire information on trend bourbons.
Fantastic video
Kurt, Have you noticed a difference between naked grouse and malt? Company claims same liquid but Internet 'experts' say Malt is not as good as Grouse was. As always, thanks for a great show!
I wasn’t aware of the name change until the comments on this video. Have to check it out!
