    Love your videos, I’m excited for you and its
    coming along so quickly.
    While watching, I was thinking about what you might do regarding predators or if there are coyotes etc.
    I’m sure your dogs will be amazing at keeping everything safe, it was just a thought as we have foxes and coyotes as well.
    I’m just starting my rabbitry and have been learning so much from you!

    The video I have been waiting for. When we rented our house last year we asked to have our cat inside, they said yes. We had the rabbit but we thought we dint need to tell them she was outside. Since our house had a fence Henry (Henry is our cat) became an outside cat and he loves it. We sent a picture of henrys outside hutch and they saw the rabbit and said no more animals and they were mad lol. The things that happens,,, Hopefully when we own our own house we can another cat and maybe rabbit. Sorry for making this essay that you have to read.

  • @lloydcoleman5469

    Great idea. Seems like I've seen a video of yours with this completed and full of rabbits in the background. So this must work. Looks great in theory. Can't wait for a review in the future.
    Im concerned about swaying on either row when the bunnies hop around. As well as the weight of mommy and babies in your 36 x 30 cages. But definitely looking forward to the review.
    Also, you're definitely gonna need a steeper slope on the roll away poop shoots to allow for proper drainage and ease of cleanup so, I don't think you'll be able to do one for your upper cages but definitely for your lower ones. Maybe if you added a stool, you could raise the upper row higher to allow a steep 45 degree slope for those. The stool to reach the inside of the upper cages. I've seen it work well on other channels. One channel even has a hay troth at the bottom of the shoot to catch everything and then can be wheeled away with a dolly once full. And can have excrement easily stirred or turned in the troth for pre-composting and to keep smell down. Just some ideas for you to ponder on. Cheers!

      @TealStoneHomestead  2 года назад

      Thank you! No swaying will happen. I’m very adamant that my cages stay as still as possible 😊

    My does are trying to bite each other through the walls of their wire cages. For now they are far enough apart that they can't hurt each other but I noticed you used modular cages and wasn't sure if that is something that they overcome or if it depends on the bunny. Let me know if there is anything I should be doing if you can! Please and thank you for the awesome content (super excited for all of you!)

    Fantastic job, well done. Self reliance is such a valuable trait. But I have a question… how will you keep snakes from eating the little kits? I need to change my set up for that very reason. Snakes can EASILY get through that 1x2 hardware cloth on your cages. Ask me how I know❕… a 5 ft+ black rat snake easily got into one of the ‘grow-out’ cages, ate a youngster, then got stuck on the way out due to the bunny bolus in its belly.
    As soon as I discovered the snake, I grabbed a pair of lopping shears and took its damned head off. I’m thinking maybe nailing up plywood on the underside of our barn loft, thus creating a solid ceiling to attach the cages to overhead but within easy reach for feeding & cleaning.
    I’d love some suggestions on a good way to hang the cages from the ceiling far AWAY from the walls (bc snakes can and do climb) but still be able to take down the cages w/o too much difficulty for deep cleaning. Any brilliant, creative, solution oriented minds out there have any suggestions ?? Thanks in advance.

    • @TealStoneHomestead
      @TealStoneHomestead  2 года назад +1

      I would just say constant airflow (like box fans). If you have windows, you can try to make some sort of cross breeze. Installing vents and leaving the door open in hot weather can help the warm air escape.

    2 years down the road now. Any issues with how you hung the cages? I was thinking about doing hanging cages like this but my concern is that the weight of the cages, rabbits, water, and feeder will distort the cages with all the weight on the top wires with no support under the cage. Love watching your video's, always learn something.

    If you have a gutter at the front of a 30" cage, you're going to be getting urine on your clothes every time you try to get to the kits at the back. That's why my slants always face the back.

    • @uftc1324

      No, that’s is the only breeding that is unadvised. Although technically possible with really REALLY perfectly genetic rabbits, it will make all the bad genetics front tenfold in the kits.

    i don’t understand why people put bunnies in such tiny cages. we wouldn’t put chickens or ducks or cows or sheep in something so small. rabbits were made to forage and move and binky. why not something like a tractor, where they can at least move around and be happy before you eat them?

    • @TealStoneHomestead
      @TealStoneHomestead  2 года назад +5

      I also tractor them. I see that you’re new here 😊 many of my rabbits are show rabbits. Their health, happiness, and safety means a lot to me. I have a lot of videos showing my rabbits free ranging. I also forage for them.

      @@veritablyvermilion this is so wrong. Rabbit need very large spaces with a place to hide. They can then hop around when they are happy and hide when they want to feel safer. If the rabbits your saw were scared of big spaces, it is because they were not provided with an adequate environment. They are not livestock or things to show, they are living being and deserve to be treated as such. This girl said that she takes good care of the rabbits but this is very, very far from the truth. Those cages are so small, it’s literally animal cruelty in most countries in Europe and you could be persecuted for actions like this. It’s like locking a person in a toilet of their whole life. The bottom wire hurts their paws constantly. You are torturing these animals, please stop.

      While the sizes are small, that is really the only problem. She does take great care of her rabbits as far as feeding and everything else. God made animals for us to hunt. Though rabbits make great pets, they have good meat and can be a great homestead rabbits. The wire in her cages are completely suitable and don’t give sore hocks. The wire is 14 gauge so it doesn’t give sore hocks like this gauge wire but obviously you didn’t know that. This is nothing like a mass production. If you know the life that your chicken nuggets from McDonald’s had, then you would know that this is nothing at all like mass production. She isn’t doing it for money. Don’t hate until you know the facts please, thank you.
