Mac says in his autobiography (a great read, by the way) that Steve Marriott could be hard work because he was always hyperactive. The bit where he (Steve) has a heart attack was terrifying.

I met him at a 80's gig. My sister worked for the concert co and the biggest FM station. I have been backstage and met so many bands. Steve was so appreciative to meet you. It was like Oh Wow! He's so cool! Robin Trower was another so kind as well as Brian May. Clem Burke was so cool. gave me pointers and told me my set a Slingerland was a Jazz set but to still keep it because it will be worth its weight in gold..lol Yea should have listened and kept it. He was soo right

I met him in the 80's at a festival backstage. What a amazing person and so welcoming. It's like he already knew you when you met him. A real class act. I will say I was taken back how small he was. Maybe 5'3"? I got it small faces..lol The reason I thought we was taller maybe because his music was so big.. Such a loss..Rip Steve, Ronnie

Yes they were all short, hence the band name... I think it's Mac in his book (might be Kenney's) who says some teenyboppers who were mobbing them at the front of some hotel were overhead to say something like "I've gone off them now, look, they're so short!"

The essence of Steve Marriott's personality is captured in the opening exchanges with Whispering Bob. What would it have been like to spend an evening with him down the pub over a few pints - I can only dream on.........................................

+mick george Well, humour is clearly in the eye of the beholder, I guess. I don't see that as snide and Harris' face isn't shown again till the end when he is all smiles, so I'm not sure what you mean about "he wasn't happy". Unless that comment refers to Marriott who is clearly happy.

***** it could not be the early eighties whispering Bob left the OGWT in '78. I'm almost sure I read somewhere that Ronnie could not make this performance because of ill health, although he may have been in America for all I know

Pogol Swood Ronnie wasn't involved in the late 70s version of the group (was at first, but not by the time they came to record/tour). This is the "Playmates" lineup with Rick Wills.
