- 2022 saw a huge leap in quality from Chinese watch brands on Aliexpress. This Proxima PX1697 may just have set the new standard for 2023. I wasn't expecting too much but this is a beauty. The Proxima PX1697 has perfect dimensions to suit most wrists. Its a 200m Dive Watch, a dress watch, a sports watch...a GADA watch!
Had I seen this Proxima last year it would have challenged for the best dive watch of 2022. if you have not heard of Proxima Watches then pay attention. This is a great everyday watch.

I have to point out how well they matched the brushing on the lugs and end links! Near perfect match and something that is ignored by so many brands. This watch is just so well thought-out and executed. I'd prefer it at 38 mm but I might buy one anyway.
As you will have seen it actually wears like a 38. Perfect on my 6.75 inch wrist. Thanks for watching:)
Great review John and what a lovely watch. I purchased a PX1683 recently, directly from Proxima, and it is of outstanding quality. I corresponded with Proxima to ensure I got the exact specification I wanted, and their representative Stephen Yi could not have been more obliging. I know what you mean about your wrists - I've had months of work tree clearing on farms due to Arwen and saws certainly take their toll.
Hi Andrew. I am very impressed by Proxima. Excellent customer service and superb watches. I cut my teeth years back helping clear Culloden battlefield of the big stuff and worked in some horrendous freezing conditions when I was training to be a Forrester. My forearms and hands took a beating!

I concur with the title: the Proxima PX1697 is an outstanding score and prbly the best on AliX for what I am looking for. Such a wearable size, clean dial, and that beautiful enamel... Even got it right with a 6 o'clock date to preserve symmetry. I ordered another to keep on those updated brac. The one I have came with a defective half link (another thing they got right on this one) so 8t shall transition to various NATOs and MNs for superb comfort and versatility.

Really nice watch for the money. Dont worry about that blank clasp. I've engraved the clasps on many if my watched with my family motto snd its nice to see it each morning when I put on my watch.
Although i have a Christopher Ward Trident Pro 600, i might pick up one of these as well as a fancy beater on a rubber strap. Next sale!
14:04 I have a later revision with all caps on the logo. At this point, I can see that the printing itself changed. On yours, the characters look glossy and have a somewhat embossed look. On mine, they are fully flat and have no discernable height above the enamel dial. I have to say that I like this revision. The printing is almost immaculately crisp.
That bracelet edges feel really sharp.

5:20 😵 PTSD! The quick release, true to name, take seconds to remove. However, the endlinks are so well-machined and fit so snuggly to the case that it took me about 3/4 hr. to get the factory bracs refitted. Never again! I've ordered another so one can ride straps, one can stay factory. 💸 And I still feel like I'm getting a great deal 🤷🏼

I was surprised at the specs for this piece John, at first glance I was thinking 42mm !. Ok without a doubt its a nod towards the CW we all know but I have to give them credit it does look a stoater. Personally , nit picking, I would have liked to see the dial branding in a different font or small block capitals perhaps ?, dunno it just doesn't look quite right to my eyes but as I say nit picking. Even circa 300 clams with the Sellita it looks a lot of watch for silly money. Great review cheers.

I have this watch and an 6.5in wrist. I could still take out 1.5 links and 2 microadjustments smaller..aka even 6in is no problem

how do you think this watch would look with a tan nylon strap? Like the strap that Vaer uses. Or should i stick with the new black proxima that just came out with the tan strap?

I really do like this watch, but it's really at the high end of what I would spend on AliExpress, so I'm hesitant to make the plunge. Perhaps in a future sale...

Is the uni dive logo bad? Most reviews I see have the updated proxima text only
Great Question! Proxima do both because the Unidive "Unicorn" logo is the main identity of the brand in Asia. They suggest themselves that just the Proxima text is for other markets. TBH I have held both and it is pretty much a toss up for me. I like either but on some watches I think the Unidive logo looks better as proxima on its own (and where it is positioned) can actually take something away from the dial. Just my honest opinion and hope it helps.
Much like a Seig Flamma, this particular one is a cracker so will have to try and get one when funds allow.

Don’t want to bring any negativity or judgement, but it’s become a pet peeve of mine when people call the now standard 28,800 rate “Hi-Beat”. Last time I checked, the term “Hi-Beat” was reserved for rates higher than 28k, even though Seiko would sometimes use it on 28k for marketing purposes. I still think it should be reserved for 36,000 and higher considering a greater chunk of movements run 28,000 these days. At this pace, 21,000 will be considered Hi-Beat within the next 10 years (just kidding).
I understand completely what you are saying and you are correct but this term has been used since Seiko adopted it I suppose. Most of the watches I feature are at the lower 21600 rate but I will try and use the term higher beat rate just for you in future...thanks for watching :)

What's wrong calling a NATO strap a NATO strap then?
International Watchmen Inc have trademarked the term and have been enforcing it aggressively. Just look up NATO straps now trademarked and you will find all sorts of results. Companies selling these straps have even had to change their business names!
These reviews are NOT accurate. I just received this watch today. Yes the watch itself is fairly nice. The bracelet is not. The clasp is no where even remotely as good as San Martin. Winding the movement is NOT as smooth as they say. If you rub your finger between the crystal & the bezel it is very sharp on all sides. It is a nice a watch, but no where near perfect. San Martin is way better.
Not my experience. If you are not happy with your watch ask for a return. After handling hundreds of watches both SM and Proxima are good. To call me a liar is not polite, nor is it professional.
