  • We had a chance to spend two full days in Sequoia National Park. It was a very memorable trip as this park is truly amazing. The first visit on Friday was great because there were no other visitors around for a good 3-4 hour time period. We basically had the whole park to ourselves.
We were worried that Moro Rock Trail will be closed due to snow, but there were no signs about any closures so we went for it. As you'll see, it was an interesting hike to the very top.
The second day was spent by snowshoeing to Heather Lake. It was a solid hike. It was not an easy one for sure.
If you'd ask if we recommend going to Sequoia National Park in winter, we would definitely say yes. The trees are amazing, crowds are not bad and snow just makes everything look even better.
Some things to consider before going in winter:
You need snow chains for your tires. They are required to have before entering the park territory. If you have 4wd, you will be fine without putting them on but you still must have them in your car. You can rent chains in Three Rivers town right before the entrance, which can cost from ~$50.
The road to Kings Canyon is closed. So you can't go there from Sequoia park.
Food market and other stores were closed. There was only one place where you can get some quick snacks.
If there was recent snowfall, you might have to use snowshoes to reach some popular places.
It's hard to secure the spot in campgrounds as some of them are closed and options are pretty limited.

How were the roads getting to the park? Were they cleared or did you have to use chains ?

    • @sharas1

we had a jeep 4x4 so we were fine but rangers were stopping all cars and requesting to put chains if it's not 4x4. You can rent chains at a few places before the entrance but it's a bit pricy. Like around $100

@@sharas1 So a 4X4 is sufficient? I was not sure if it was required no matter what.

@@ahill6858 at the the time it was but technically you must have chains in your car, rangers can still ask or if weather gets really nasty

Did I hear right, this is mid March? Do you know if we'll see snow in the first week of April?

    • @sharas1
      @sharas1  2 года назад

that's right! it was mid March but the snow was mainly from the recent snow storm. You might get some snow in April but normally there shouldn't be as much as you see in this vid. I would think there should be some snow patches and maybe more snow in higher elevations in April.

The hike up Moro Rock brought back memories. Mine in summer. // You were allowed to hike there? Did you jump over a barricade?
I like that you tried as best as possible to save the icicles for others to enjoy. // Let me congratulate you guys for making such a fantastic video. Even the music was appropriate.

it wasn't closed or barricaded in any way. It was just a lot of snow, so yeah we were surprised that it was open. And thank you! Glad you liked it!!

@@sharas1 I asked that because years ago my friend and I went to Yosemite in early spring. The Mist Trail was barricaded at the foot of the stone steps leading up. There may have been some ice in places but not that much really. We were disappointed but soon a group of German tourists came and they just jumped over the barricade. So we did too. Ha!
