- At a time when the youth of the world are rising up for Gaza, it is probably not uncontroversial to say that Muslim students on university campuses are lagging behind. Dr. Ayo Khalil is a medical Doctor, community worker, and former student activist who spearheaded student political campaigns against Islamophobia, racism, and Israeli apartheid. He was also a VP at Fosis in 2020, leading their political work.

Hello. I enjoy your podcast a lot. Could you please get Chris Bollyn on here for an interview the journalist behind the bombshell book "Solving 9/11: The Deception that Shook the World" - it is SOOOO relevant in today's geopolitical landscape l!
What a beautiful young brother may Allah swt preserve him and keep him steadfast upon Islam.
Sometimes you feel utter despair for the future and the young generations, then you must remind yourself that young fellows like this exist and it gives you hope and confidence for the future
And what are you doing in the meantime besides being passive-aggressive instead of leading by example?
100% spot on. This quietism is so detrimental it's absurd it's still alive even NOW.
"When tyranny becomes law, rebellion becomes duty." - Thomas Jefferson
@@ummmaryam5090 What are you on about, child?
This is absolutely spot on. Jzk brother for always bringing on intellectual guests who are a gift to our umma. The time to stay silent is over. In fact, watching your videos encouraged me to start my own Islam-centered RUclips channel where I show the beauty and brilliance of Prophetic Medicine, share my justice-driven medicolegal cases, and expose the undignified state of our US healthcare system. I would love to collab with you in the near future brother!
As a Quaker, there are similarities and this discussion is important for other faith communities to review this topic as well. Our youth are being asked to risk but the faith community must support, engage, redress harms, care for wounds (physical, emotional, financial, carceral, etc). This is CRUCIAL. Individuals of the faith body should be individually cared for and at the activist group overall level cared for as well.
Very important point
Excellent point
Eye opening interview - Muslim Students Union needs to be professionalised and its huge potential fully utilised. Excellent presentation Dr khaliil.
With Muslims flying planes into buildings, blowing buses and trains, driving vehicles into innocent walking on pavements, killing minorities, fatwas for killing authors in name of blasphemy; all in the name of Allah (justified by Islamic scriptures) and demanding prmitive sharia laws and special treatment for Islam to not to be criticised, all a real fear of Islam (Islamophobia) is very natural.
Did you ever ponder as to why there is no such fear against Budhism or Christianity or Sikhism or Hinduism?
What a wonderful discussion. Great to see young Muslims standing up against oppression. It’s sad that when we have become more established and have more… we make less sacrifices. When the student saddled with loans are standing up in encampments for Gaza. How do we answer to Allah azzawajal? May He Forgive us and Guide us to Serve Him to the best of our abilities.
Having just graduated I agree, one of the main issues I’ve found is that although people within isocs are often good natured, they are too hesitant to engage in political activitism in fear of backlash that would affect the Muslim population they serve. Subdued into silence
Thank you so much for this video. It was very beneficial. Keep up the Great Work! Much appreciated!
This guest hit every nail on the head! It was a great listen. May Almighty Allah continue to guide and bless him (Ameen🤲) Jazakallahu khayran to the host for a brilliant show.
I’m a Muslim school teacher and I have to say every thing he has said it 100% true .
I remember when the whole Trojan horse thing started, I was working in a school with no Muslims or ethnic teachers and I felt every lines eyes on me and they talked about radicalisation etc . I’m older and more experienced now and realise how hypocritical western society is .
As a teacher it’s sooo hard , because the people at the top of the education system are telling us teachers what we should teach lgbtq etc , don’t give your opinions about Palestine (but it’s okay if it’s Ukraine- in fact let’s have a stupid bake sale for them ) & if you see anyone wearing a flag or speaking about it then you HAVE TO REPORT them to PRETEND.
I love my job but I hate the sick western politics we have to endure . It’s no wonder so many are leaving the profession.
😢
I think part of the problem is that living in Western societies where there is a separation of secular and religious life, Muslims too have compartmentalized their lives, sacred and profane, whereas Islam is a way of life, encompassing both. In the truest sense, not being involved in politics, not taking part in our societies to affect positive change, combating injustices (racism, Islamophobia, a genocide, etc.), is un-Islamic and self-defeating, and keeps Muslims isolated, misunderstood, and nothing changes. Our survival depends on it. I would like to also point out that here in the US, as I am sure it is in Britain, the protests have been an opportunity for dawah, and many people are coming to Islam from not only the example of the faith and resistance of the Palestinians, but likewise the example of protesters, many of whom are Muslims.
All those strong, outspoken women among the wives of the Prophet (RA, SAW), and throughout the history of Islam, and some Muslim men expect women now to be not seen and not heard? We definitely need to be included.
Eye opening
Thank you for this commentary and advice. As a parent of two students at University in the UK, collectively trying to navigate the current political climate within the framework of Islam, this has been amongst the most important and constructive conversations I have come across. Absolutely spot on with the challenges faced and wonderfully balanced solutions proposed. A must listen for all students, parents and of course ISocs!
May Allah Accept your works, and make it a means of acceptance and Guidance for the Ummah!
Beautiful and efforts in the right direction. Great to see the energy and resources being pulled together. ‘This has to be the time!’ Thank you brothers
Is Dr Ayo a Yoruba from Nigeria?
Really proud 🥲 of you Brother.
Keep up the good work😊
So looking forward to listening to this.
So, so needed! Thank you Thinking Muslim! ❤
Please have same conversation about inactivity of masjids. Thank you!
Americans students, actors & citizens stood up for Black South Africa to stop the Apartheid against Black Africans. It's time for all to stand up for Gaza to stop the apartheid, genocide, massacre & starvation of innocent ppl. God gave BP humanity, the will & strength to stand up & fight for his meek, those with no voices or power to fight for themselves. The world is in a destructive decline right now, with no humanity for humankind.
“By Time! Indeed mankind is in loss. Expect for those who have believed and done righteous deeds, and advised each other to the truth and perseverance.” (Quran 103: 1-3) 🤍
Thoroughly enjoyed! ❤
12:37 the failure of the Muslim community to our students is shocking!
Nice job well done ✅
Brilliant. Jazaa kAllahu khairah fid daarain. May Allah bless you both immensely
The whole of the muslim ummwh has failed Gaza
Actually they have failed themselves terribly. On the day of judgment how will they answer Allah SWT?
Incredibly insightful
MashAllah brilliant talk
With these conversations I certainly hope that we are coming back up. I dont know how much time it will take and how long but InshALLAH we have surely started the journey. Alhamdullilah
Great podcast Ayo what a legend 👏

Amazing wisdom and insight, which has been articulated so well 👏 👍
What an amazing inspiration for us youngens
Please invite sh Yasir Qhadi to talk about that engaging in politics is completely Halal and even Sunna
Allahuma Barak excellent interview
great content thank you very much
So refreshing!
I think his point on Muslim students engaging but not through Muslim Student Associations is very true. I see a lot of activism on Gaza from fellow Muslims in Canada but a lot of it is not done through traditional Muslim associations Mosques/main student and national bodies party because they are worried about their funding status but also the type of leadership that is needed for activism and lobbying can be different. We are now building up institutions like NCCM as well as supporting secular ones like CJPME in Canada. I think more Muslim engagement is needed and our capacity to act is more so than in some dictatorships so we have to do it. It takes time, effort and a bunch of mistakes to build out institutions and change culture that gets the community engaged but we just need to get it done.
Not sure I feel like the Dr.’s uncle 😊. Nigerian Muslim here. Barakallahu feeh Ayọ. Ọlọhun aa wa pẹlu ẹ.

“They [think to] deceive Allah and those believe, but they deceive not except themselves and perceive [it] not.
-
In their hearts is disease, so Allah has increased their disease; and for them is a painful punishment because they [habitually] used to lie.
-
And when it is said to them, "Do not cause corruption on the earth," they say, "We are but reformers."
-
Unquestionably, it is they who are the corrupters, but they perceive [it] not.
-
And when it is said to them, "Believe as the people have believed," they say, "Should we believe as the foolish have believed?" Unquestionably, it is they who are the foolish, but they know [it] not.
-
And when they meet those who believe, they say, "We believe"; but when they are alone with their evil ones, they say, "Indeed, we are with you; we were only mockers."
-
[But] Allah mocks them and prolongs them in their transgression [while] they wander blindly.
-
Those are the ones who have purchased error [in exchange] for guidance, so their transaction has brought no profit, nor were they guided.
-
Their example is that of one who kindled a fire, but when it illuminated what was around him, Allah took away their light and left them in darkness [so] they could not see.
-
Deaf, dumb and blind - so they will not return [to the right path].” (Quran 2:9-18)
“They will not fight you all except within fortified cities or from behind walls. Their violence among themselves is severe. You think they are together, but their hearts are diverse. That is because they are a people who do not reason.”(Quran 59:14)
“And never think that Allah is unaware of what the wrongdoers do. He only delays them for a Day when eyes will stare [in horror].”(Quran 14:42)
“Let them, then, laugh little, and weep much at the contemplation of the punishment for the evil they have committed.” (Quran 9:82)
“But they plan, and Allah plans. And Allah is the best of planners.”(Quran 8:30)
Allah's plans always prevail in perfect timings and quantity over the man's planning. One should realize that there won't be any storm that Allah won't carry His man through. But for that one's faith needs to be greater than his fear!

17:00 this is so important.
Jazakumullahu khayran for a thought provoking discussion. I’d like to add that as Islamophobia is currently pervasive and being used by much of the establishment to suppress or ignore or neglect the Muslim voice, then all sections and levels of the Muslim community need to unite, organise and support one another. Success will come when we work together.
The work at an individual level is primarily to unite communities and work together imo
Part of that work is for communities to support and protect individuals targeted for speaking up as this young brother is role modelling for us May Allah SWT bless him
Islamic students have to support Gaza in an intellectual way . One wrong move and they will blame Islam. Don’t give them a chance. But make the public aware that it’s not religion but humanity here were are raising awareness. Muslims in Britain are shadowed by Israeli lobby in government, So we need to have Sabr and show the truth. We need to be strong with our Eman and help Gaza, help will , and it will come from Allah.
How can I contact the brother ? Please reply, I need to ask the brother about ISOCS.
Yes
I said this because I have been organizing as a Muslim for years on the issue of Palestine alongside other issues. Quietism is a serious, fundamental issue with our community, and I have been working against it here in Los Angeles as well as I can. It is hard. I am so happy The Thinking Muslim exists for our community. Allahuma Barik.

Why is he angry with what going on in Nigeria, his home country with what going in northern Nigeria?
What is happening in Nigeria?
30:30 I’m curious to understand what were some instances of leftist beliefs (economically or socially) that would go against Islam. More curious about the former
Same. This statement only makes sense if you import the distorted American definition of "the Left"
All secular liberalism, socialism and communism. (As well as Capitalism of course) are devoid of God and go against Islam and are from the human mind and man-made ideas of what is right and wrong, instead of what Allah said and what the Quran and sunnah defines
New muslims need to be mindful not to bring previous identity politics into their belief system.
Is this what you got from this akhi?
He is not a 'new Muslim'
Yes, my dear brothers, my beloved Palestine is the cradle of Christianity and Judaism, and it contains Al-Aqsa, the third holiest place for us Muslims in Palestine. Bethlehem, the cradle of Christ, is a blessed land, and it is the holy land, and it has been our land for tens of thousands of years, and it is the land of the Canaanite Arabs, the original Palestinian people, and they have lived in it since the Islamic conquest in the era. The Umayyad, Abbasid and Ottoman Arabs, Muslims, Christians and Jews are like brothers and neighbors under Palestinian rule to the owners of the land, but the Zionists came and the British occupation brought them to our land as compensation to the Jews for what they did to them Hitler. The question here is that who did the Holocaust, the Germans, why do I, the Palestinian Arab, pay the price? Why not Germany? Why do I, the Muslim, pay the price for crimes? Committed by the Germans and Nazi Europe, fascism is the root of all evil in the world. Our problem is the occupation🇵🇸🫡🔻☝️💚❤️💚

It must be annoying having that first name. You probably think people are always calling your name.
Ayo means “joy” in Yoruba. So it’s still a blessing regardless.
Nice to know @5:44 that Islam cares strongly for justice;. But then guess it is only for Muslims because under Islamic law; as for instance, murder of a Kafir by a Muslim (or a slave) does not attract capital punishment by Qisas. Also where is justice or equity in Islam for Dhimmis, minorities women, gays and apostates?
If you're going to yap, bring sources.
Imagine chatting in a YT comment section and expecting to get holistic responses to your assumptions.
No it can attract capital punishment, depends on the reason. There’s literally a hadith that says whoever kills a dhimmi will not smell the fragrance of paradise, which can be smelled from a distance of 70 years travel. That’s far worse than mere capital punishment, a thing that is itself a mercy since it expiates sin.
So what do you think most of converts are actually women? Are you a troll?
