  • At a time when the youth of the world are rising up for Gaza, it is probably not uncontroversial to say that Muslim students on university campuses are lagging behind. Dr. Ayo Khalil is a medical Doctor, community worker, and former student activist who spearheaded student political campaigns against Islamophobia, racism, and Israeli apartheid. He was also a VP at Fosis in 2020, leading their political work.

In fact, watching your videos encouraged me to start my own Islam-centered RUclips channel where I show the beauty and brilliance of Prophetic Medicine, share my justice-driven medicolegal cases, and expose the undignified state of our US healthcare system. I would love to collab with you in the near future brother!

As a Quaker, there are similarities and this discussion is important for other faith communities to review this topic as well. Our youth are being asked to risk but the faith community must support, engage, redress harms, care for wounds (physical, emotional, financial, carceral, etc). This is CRUCIAL. Individuals of the faith body should be individually cared for and at the activist group overall level cared for as well.

With Muslims flying planes into buildings, blowing buses and trains, driving vehicles into innocent walking on pavements, killing minorities, fatwas for killing authors in name of blasphemy; all in the name of Allah (justified by Islamic scriptures) and demanding prmitive sharia laws and special treatment for Islam to not to be criticised, all a real fear of Islam (Islamophobia) is very natural.
Did you ever ponder as to why there is no such fear against Budhism or Christianity or Sikhism or Hinduism?

What a wonderful discussion. Great to see young Muslims standing up against oppression. It’s sad that when we have become more established and have more… we make less sacrifices. When the student saddled with loans are standing up in encampments for Gaza. How do we answer to Allah azzawajal? May He Forgive us and Guide us to Serve Him to the best of our abilities.

I’m a Muslim school teacher and I have to say every thing he has said it 100% true .
I remember when the whole Trojan horse thing started, I was working in a school with no Muslims or ethnic teachers and I felt every lines eyes on me and they talked about radicalisation etc . I’m older and more experienced now and realise how hypocritical western society is .
As a teacher it’s sooo hard , because the people at the top of the education system are telling us teachers what we should teach lgbtq etc , don’t give your opinions about Palestine (but it’s okay if it’s Ukraine- in fact let’s have a stupid bake sale for them ) & if you see anyone wearing a flag or speaking about it then you HAVE TO REPORT them to PRETEND.
I love my job but I hate the sick western politics we have to endure . It’s no wonder so many are leaving the profession.

  • @lorainebaird
    @lorainebaird Месяц назад +7

I think part of the problem is that living in Western societies where there is a separation of secular and religious life, Muslims too have compartmentalized their lives, sacred and profane, whereas Islam is a way of life, encompassing both. In the truest sense, not being involved in politics, not taking part in our societies to affect positive change, combating injustices (racism, Islamophobia, a genocide, etc.), is un-Islamic and self-defeating, and keeps Muslims isolated, misunderstood, and nothing changes. Our survival depends on it. I would like to also point out that here in the US, as I am sure it is in Britain, the protests have been an opportunity for dawah, and many people are coming to Islam from not only the example of the faith and resistance of the Palestinians, but likewise the example of protesters, many of whom are Muslims.
All those strong, outspoken women among the wives of the Prophet (RA, SAW), and throughout the history of Islam, and some Muslim men expect women now to be not seen and not heard? We definitely need to be included.

It's time for all to stand up for Gaza to stop the apartheid, genocide, massacre & starvation of innocent ppl. I think his point on Muslim students engaging but not through Muslim Student Associations is very true. I see a lot of activism on Gaza from fellow Muslims in Canada but a lot of it is not done through traditional Muslim associations Mosques/main student and national bodies party because they are worried about their funding status but also the type of leadership that is needed for activism and lobbying can be different. We are now building up institutions like NCCM as well as supporting secular ones like CJPME in Canada. I think more Muslim engagement is needed and our capacity to act is more so than in some dictatorships so we have to do it. It takes time, effort and a bunch of mistakes to build out institutions and change culture that gets the community engaged but we just need to get it done.

“They [think to] deceive Allah and those believe, but they deceive not except themselves and perceive [it] not.
    -
In their hearts is disease, so Allah has increased their disease; and for them is a painful punishment because they [habitually] used to lie.
    -
And when it is said to them, "Do not cause corruption on the earth," they say, "We are but reformers."
    -
Unquestionably, it is they who are the corrupters, but they perceive [it] not.
    -
And when it is said to them, "Believe as the people have believed," they say, "Should we believe as the foolish have believed?" Unquestionably, it is they who are the foolish, but they know [it] not.
    -
And when they meet those who believe, they say, "We believe"; but when they are alone with their evil ones, they say, "Indeed, we are with you; we were only mockers."
    -
[But] Allah mocks them and prolongs them in their transgression [while] they wander blindly.
    -
Those are the ones who have purchased error [in exchange] for guidance, so their transaction has brought no profit, nor were they guided.
    -
Their example is that of one who kindled a fire, but when it illuminated what was around him, Allah took away their light and left them in darkness [so] they could not see.
    -
Deaf, dumb and blind - so they will not return [to the right path].” (Quran 2:9-18)
“They will not fight you all except within fortified cities or from behind walls. Their violence among themselves is severe. You think they are together, but their hearts are diverse. That is because they are a people who do not reason.”(Quran 59:14)
“And never think that Allah is unaware of what the wrongdoers do. He only delays them for a Day when eyes will stare [in horror].”(Quran 14:42)
“Let them, then, laugh little, and weep much at the contemplation of the punishment for the evil they have committed.” (Quran 9:82)
“But they plan, and Allah plans. And Allah is the best of planners.”(Quran 8:30)
Allah's plans always prevail in perfect timings and quantity over the man's planning. One should realize that there won't be any storm that Allah won't carry His man through. But for that one's faith needs to be greater than his fear!

But make the public aware that it’s not religion but humanity here were are raising awareness. Yes, my dear brothers, my beloved Palestine is the cradle of Christianity and Judaism, and it contains Al-Aqsa, the third holiest place for us Muslims in Palestine. Bethlehem, the cradle of Christ, is a blessed land, and it is the holy land, and it has been our land for tens of thousands of years, and it is the land of the Canaanite Arabs, the original Palestinian people, and they have lived in it since the Islamic conquest in the era. The Umayyad, Abbasid and Ottoman Arabs, Muslims, Christians and Jews are like brothers and neighbors under Palestinian rule to the owners of the land, but the Zionists came and the British occupation brought them to our land as compensation to the Jews for what they did to them Hitler. The question here is that who did the Holocaust, the Germans, why do I, the Palestinian Arab, pay the price? Why not Germany? Why do I, the Muslim, pay the price for crimes? Committed by the Germans and Nazi Europe, fascism is the root of all evil in the world. Our problem is the occupation🇵🇸🫡🔻☝️💚❤️💚
