  • After voyaging from Canada to the UK with crew, I sailed the 80ft Gran Mistral 'Weddell'', single-handedly from Southampton to Reykjavik, Iceland, there I met a new crew. After sail repairs, provisioning & safety training, we set sail for St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada; 1600Nm away.
It was September and heavy weather was expected.
What we got was a 'Super Storm'.

Even in the age of GPS, the ocean still demands a certain amount of guesstimating!

Listening as I went about my morning, I thought, “116W 38N? That sounds so familiar…oh right! That’s because I’m at home.” Around 112W 41N in Salt Lake City… UTAH!

As you can imagine making the recordings there is lots of editing, I know Iwith this one, I had to take out a long pause and then a big gust of me laughing after I read that and mentally crunched the numbers ...
Those guys were so wonderfully brilliant AND clueless:)
(It also underlines how such legends as the Bermuda Triangle come to be !)
