@edgarwazhear Thank you! I made this contraption. I wanted a travel guitar to take on vacation, and while I was at it I thought, let's make it headless, fanned fret, offset soundhole, eight strings, and bolt on neck. Once I finish a couple other guitars, I will build version 2 of this which will use bent (instead of carved) sides, more attention to thicknessing and bracing, and a better tuner scheme that disturbs the top less. Also I want a more ergonomic shape.
@Miner4aheartofgold Thx ! 8 str necks are $1200 from Novax, or make one $50. Tuners are ok except the low F# which sticks a little, prob due to the retainer. Next time will use normal tuners at the bottom. I did little to the top, it is full 3.8mm and just a big uncarved X brace. I trimmed it some, better now. Next time will follow the Cumpiano book. Little string tension on the top, which probably isn't as good as using a glued brace and letting it pull the top. CF in neck is holding well
@center77 i read the tech on the steinberger headless electric guitar company website, and they state many advantages of a headless. like a zero fret and others. you could check them out and incorporate those technologies, with your fan fret technology, and maybe research some sound wave science and acoustic designs. Then, put them together into one. and you have the next generation guitar! i would very much like to buy such an innovative luthier! :)
Thanks for posting this. I have been thinking of trying out a fanned fret DIY project. I love the idea, but no way could I afford to buy a custom guitar just to try it. Anyone who has never fretted a guitar should withhold comments and bow and scrape! :-) I noticed you had on a "cigar box" body at first. Glad to see you improved it. This sounds much better, so it wasn't the keyboard! How's tuning it tune it with those saddle tuners? What kind of bracing did you use for your top?
this guitar is definitely the most advanced guitar ive ever seen. ive always wanted one that was headless and yet acoustic and fan fretted (multiscaled) where did you get this?
Travel 8-strings elec. acoustic guitar (comply with airline carry-on luggage) and probably fit in the airline overhad bin... However, I prefer tapping like a keyboard b cuz of my finger locking issues and also playing 8 fingers on top of the strings is a lot easier for me (I do not know if the fanned frets will be an issue) (how about the string height for tapping). Btw, Warmoth guitar parts, sells the 8-string fretboard (4 bolts) about $250 tnx ed
Nice to see people doing their on projects. Congrats : )
