one of the few Maori's who could laugh at himself and Maoridom, a genius at his best, R.I.P.

Much of his short life he was hated by the Maori Iwi, especially his own tribe, it was only around the time of his death that they 'claimed' him. He was a Kiwi's Kiwi, he deserved far better. I do appreciate that this video didn't hide those facts.

We need to return to these days now we have statues being ripped down and everyone who is maori being offended at anything, what would Billy say about it , he was BRILLIANT AND SO FUNNY we need to return to this kind of attitude POLITICAL CORRECTNESS IS RUINING OUR COUNTRY

Just read Matt Elliot’s book. Great read. Maori have great qualities but their bombastic attitude toward protocol over a persons will is out of order.

Billy lived in the pakeha(white mans)world all his life,so as a maori it was time for him to go back to his roots and layed to rest at his urupa(cemetry),if his wishes were made clear b4 he died that he didnt want to be buried at his urupa then thats not ok for them to have taken him,but i dont think he made any clear statements against going back to his ancestral burial lands where hes from,i do feel for his wife tho,but as a white lady i dont think she agrees or understands the maori protocol, unfortunately she was overpowered by whanau(family members).
