    || THIS EPISODE || We weren’t sure we could top our insane day driving the Going to the Sun Road in Glacier National Park and hiking down to Hidden Lake from Logan’s Pass that we shared in our last episode, but we had no idea just how amazing the hike to Avalanche Lake was going to be.
This time we were prepared with donuts and coffee, stopped at Red Rock Point to check out some spots for a swim later, and miraculously snagged a spot in the Avalanche Lake Trail parking lot as we were late getting into the park that morning. NOTE: You need to get to parking areas inside Glacier before 8am to get a spot easily. We just got really lucky!
Our hike was eventful with Lily losing a sweatshirt and Jess losing her sunglasses! But the craziest part of the hike came when we reached the lake and saw a teenage boy running along the far side of the lake right at a black bear! 😳🐻🏃🏻
The views from Avalanche made it one of our favorite hikes so far and with the sun warming up the day, we headed back to Red Rock Point for some lunch and a dip in the glacial water of the river. Whose idea was that anyway??? It was the coldest water we have ever swam in! 🥶 We wrap up our day with the sun setting at Lake McDonald enjoying the view and the beautiful colored rocks that it is known for!
Stay tuned for the next episode where we check out the caves at Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve! Be sure to like and subscribe and click on the bell icon for notifications when we release new videos!

Doesn't surprise me. I went to Glacier last summer and woke up to a baby bear climbing on top of me in my tent. It sniffed my hand then went to the side of my tent an climb on me pressing like it was doing cpr to me lol. I still would go back. I loved my close encounter. It was me and my 3 son's in our tent. I got lucky it didn't eat me. I think it helped I didn't freak out.

I live in Michigan and have water skied on New Years Day almost every year for the past 30 years. The coldest I've ever been is when I fell through the ice on a -10F day with my father-in-law trying to retrieve his aerator from his pond. The water was 8 feet deep where we fell through and nothing about it was fun!

I just did this hike last week. The same signs about the bears are up this year as well but we did not see any. The crowds were extremely large in the park. You had to be where you wanted to be by 7:00 am or you weren’t parking there. It was still a great place to visit.

Amazing video, beautiful thoughts about glaciers becoming extinct and, as an older person, you did not offend in the least, the idea was super valid and valuable, you were being positive... it's a pity we have to be careful not to offend... those who actually say they get offended are, for the most part, negative people who feel victimized when they are not, it is a sad thing to consider ourselves victims. You won an old subscriber today! Love your honesty. (By the way, I am starting my own full-time minivan experience in 2 months, super excited!!!) Thank you for the inspiration!

When I was a kid, we used to go (tent) camping at Mt. Lassen Volcanic National Park in northern California. It was one of our favorite places. The campground was on Manzanita Lake, which was fed by pure snow runoff. As a kid, I enjoyed swimming and playing there. When I went back as an adult on a geology class field trip, I waded in up to my ankles...and boy...does aging every change your perception! It was PAINFULLY cold, and I couldn't go any deeper. It made my feet and ankles ache! I can't even imagine jumping into that glacial hole that you guys did! Kudos!

Next time you're in Glacier, make time to visit Waterton Lakes, the National Park in Alberta that borders on GNP. It's a great park, too, and not nearly as crowded. Treat you wife and daughters to tea at the iconic Prince of Wales Hotel, or even better, splurge on a night in the hotel. Another fun thing to do there is take a sunset trail ride at nearby Elk Ridge Ranch. It is a lot of fun and you'll get some amazing sunset shots in the Canadian Rockies. Waterton is a short drive from East Glacier.

West half glacier is rainforest type climate. Like northwest and south coastal Alaska. East side is less green and more like Colorado . So interesting to see the contrast. East and West sides are so unique. We stayed at Two medicine for 4 nights and east KOA for 3. FYI they will deliver pizza to your RV there! Next time is west side! We went as far as avalanche lake. I had bearspray on my hip whole time I hiked in Glacier and Tetons. I suprised a mama grizzly and her sow before so I KNOW the fear. I did not run but almost fell over from a heart attack. Yellowstone Lake. I’ll never forget it. Forgive me for being so gabby! 😂

Gabby is good! You have a lot to share😎 you’re right about the contrast between east and west! I prefer the west side but we will be doing some hikes on the east side next time we go. We drove by the west KOA a bunch of times I looked really nice (we’ve also seen photos people have posted from there) maybe we will stay there sometime, I’m just too cheap🙈😂 bear spray is definitely a must ! Avalanche is almost the whole way.

you should've seen the glaciers 40 years ago. i just moved from Whitefish (too crazy - became unfriendly and crowed) a couple months ago after 35+ years. my parents ashes are sprinkled at the far end of avalanche lake - looking out at heaven's peak. doubt i'll ever visit that place again. the pushy, arrogant, rude, loud, environmentally deficient, wildlife ignorant masses became intolerable. i had my time. summited peaks over 100 times, hiked nearly every trail, fished most lakes, biked to logan alone for years (not recently - way to crowded and e-bikes ruin it), and watched the glaciers rapidly disappear. it WAS great.

I waded into the water on the north shore of Prince Edward Island and it was so cold I couldn’t even stand in it & I have waded in a mountain lake (Moose Lake in the Rockies) without issue! There were old women just lounging around in the water as though it was the Caribbean!
You need to visit Waterton, AB, it is such a quaint townsite with deer roaming between the cabins. Those cabins have been in families for generations & rarely one comes up for sale. It is so photogenic & has good hiking trails.
