  • A creep feeder is a great way to start baby goats on grain and to put weight on them quick. The name of the game when raising meat goats is to put as much weight on them as soon as you can. A creep feeder allows baby goats to have free choice grain that the adult goats can not get to.
    In this video we show our home made creep feeder that can be made very easily with materials that are easy to come by. We hope that you enjoy the video and that it helps you on your own operation.

    I'm going to be making something like this for my lambs soon, so it's nice to see a design that's good and simple! I might even already have most of this sitting around already. Thanks for taking the time to make this video!

    Thank you for the great work. What is included in your creep feeding of the kids? And how long are they on that creep feed? Thank you

      The kids start eating the grain that I feed the does at about three weeks old. I set up the creep feeder once they are about a month old. I then slowly increase the protein percentage from 14% to a 18%. They will be on the creep feeder until they are weaned. Then I just feed them in the tough because they are not having to fight the larger goats for the feed.

    How do you keep moisture from ruining the feed

    • @NicholsonFarms
      @NicholsonFarms  4 года назад +1

      The dog food feeder has a lid on the top and a door that the goats push on to get to the feed. Typically that is enough to keep the moisture out. Also I only fill it enough for one day so that there is not excess feed sitting inside to draw in moisture.

    How many goats do you have per acre? Male to female ratio?

    • @NicholsonFarms
      @NicholsonFarms  4 года назад +2

      I try not to exceed more than 5 goats per acre. I have my pastures divided into several sections. A section might be an acre with 30 goats on it but they will only be there for 2 or 3 weeks before they are moved to another section. One mature male should be able to breed between 30 to 50 females in a breeding season with no problem. I hope this answers your question and I will be sure to make a video explaining my management plan soon!
