I used a similar idea, but put it together on the 4x4 post, which I put in a post hole with 2ft of cement. Using Irwin clamps it was rather easy to build, measuring and cutting the 2x4 boards first: 2 for the length, and 6 for the width. I also added a second anchor of a 2x4 attached and in 2ft of cement to minimize top heaviness. I got better at building them after the first.
this is the first build that I could afford. I have one hundred watt Harbor freight panel and than I have the older kit that is forty five watts. so I did like your build. I just got to figure where to put them and insulate the battery from the cold and then how to get it in the house. thanks for video
Excellent video! Two thumbs up for inexpensive all-wood solar panel mount! One comment though - used solar panels are becoming pretty common these days and they are literally dirt cheap, due to all the solar panel upgrades that happens. I bought some used 165watt solar panels locally on craigslist for just $30 each the other day. Still produces good power (80-90% of original) and may last another 20 years. So find some cheap used solar panels and only really expensive part remaining are the hybrid inverter, batteries and all the wiring.
I used your frame idea, but I put my post on a pallet so I can move them around with my tractor and pallet fork! I also put a pivot point on my 4X4 post in the middle so I can pivot it for morning sun and flip it for the evening sun! I hope you like my ideas!
Funny you posted this. I'm actually going to be working on one similar to the one you showed today cept that I'll be making one that calculates the optimal angle and is able to adjust itself and even rotates, following the sun for optimal power gains :).
when you frame out the square for the panels to attach to....do you add the 2 horizontal 2x4s to frame or mount on 6x6 post separately at desired angle?
Thanks that's another way to get energy, I live by the Ocean it pretty windy here for 4 months out of the year if I could rig up a wind peperler with a car alternator with a belt to generate the alternator to charge a battery bank with a turn off switch the only thing is to find a belt long enough to charge the electric motor to run the electricity to the batteries this I have to find out.
I saw on Ebay 10 435 watt used panels that prob produce lets say 420 watts because they are used but to ship 10 of them it comes to 302.50 each this is at 10% tax included i figured. You can get 20 of them even cheaper.

If you live in Arizona Santan Solar has really good prices on Used solar panels. The shipping costs are high though.

what type mounting brackets...L brackets from hardware store...or solar company sold Z Brackets...more expensive?
For me personally, I would be concerned about how wind resistant is that design is. We get hurricanes at least once every 2-3 years (Houston area).
