If you watched the movie PLATOON, you may remember the huge version of this bunker. There were several men living in it. Something like that scale would be cool to build. This verion in this video would make a real good bug out shelter. Even better if you had a small army of friends incase society totally collapses. In that case build an entire compound. The possibilities are endless.
I was just at my local army/navy surplus yesterday. They get new stuff in every Saturday, so I like to stop by and see what’s new. They had plenty of sandbags there, but the chinsy plastic tarp like material ones, not the good cloth ones. $3.99 each. I almost crapped myself. We used to be able to get these for pennies on the dollar for a bundle of 10 or 12. We have to stop gauging each other to kingdom come, I mean for Christ’s sake. Cmon people. Another great one Corporal, thanks.
Awesome AF You keep coming back every 4-6 weeks, improving and expanding, by winter you’ll have the ultimate shelter. Future add-ons: root cellar, fireplace... with your creativity, possibilities are endless! Keep on keeping on!
I'm almost 85 and enjoy these shows more than all the others I've seen because he explains what he's doing, why, and how with visuals ALL of which I understand. The big plus is seeing the finished Work and how complete it will do the job extended. Please keep it up. Brings me joy.
I'm an old lady and been around for decades and decades oh my gosh even over half a century and more decades. Make a long story short I'm old! I've always assumed there would be a time in the evolution of this country that survival skills would be required. Over all those decades I just didn't think it would be in my time. Now for some reason I'm compelled to brush up on my survival skills??? Thank you so much for your videos! PS another one of my compulsions is heading straight for the kitchen after I watch your videos! 😋
I'm the old bird that made one of the first comments . If you want to get together with me and my 10 year old grandson just give us a holler from this forum , that is if this meets grandma's approval . Lol
Hello from Australia. Just want to say that I do a little tiny bit of bush craft myself but watching your videos on building these shelters has given me inspiration to do similar things and go to the next level here in Queensland. Will you ever do a break down step by step to building these shelters and explain the knots your using etc. You are my favourite bushcrafter on RUclips and I think those that trash talk you are simply jealous of you and are very petty people. I hope you keep going strong an solider on.
Brother I appreciate you and have nothing but respect for you. My granddaughter comes over every Sunday to watch your video. She calls you builder man. Tells me we can do that. She is 3yrs. So far we have built 2.
I learned so much from this video, thank you! I think this one's my favorite. Not only is it a kick ass design, but the building process makes perfect sense and doesn't require the skill of a woodland elf to construct. That candle holder design, I'll never forget that, ingenious AF.
Never thought I will see the day that someone would create a sandbag bunker for outdoor recreational purposes. Memories of instructors kicking over stacked sandbags in our GPMG pit screaming they are not stacked properly just like what you said. From one Corporal to another, cheers!
I've been watching your channel for a long time, Sir. Very informative, and I love the fact that you still show how to do the knots, even after you've already done the videos on the knots specifically, you still show that. I passed your channel onto my brother, because we go camping once a year, and I've been trying to incorporate some bushcraft into our camp set up.
Sorry, hit the enter button sooner than I wanted to. What I meant to say, was "Thank you, Sir. For all you do to entertain, and enlighten all of us. I'm going to keep passing your channel to friends and coworkers. Any chance you can look back, and tell us your favorite builds, or past "Adventures"?
Absolutely love the candle, that's the stuff I love to see, sandbag shelter brings back great memories of my army days. Great video sir and happy memorial day.
Wow just when you can’t think you can out do yourself you bust this video out. Outstanding Corporal. Thanks for the upload sir. Happy Memorial Day!! 🇺🇸 💪
Your re worked shelter reminds me of the 2- man dog house bunkers we had in Vietnam on FSB Katherine 50 yrs. ago. We dug the hole and a chinook carried a heavy engineer beam frame that they would drop into the hole. Then we then we would. Just close it in and sandbag the heck out of it. And that was our home all that summer 50 years ago in the 101st ABN. DIV. You do great videos. Best of luck Corp from an old blue leg sergeant.
Thank you for another awesome video. My 14 year old did his first solo overnight with a hammock and tarp shelter. He was able to build his own fire from making a birds nest that we learned watching you. Fire was covered so when the down pour came he was still able to have fire in the morning and he stayed dry. Thank you for making it so simple a father and his sons can practice these skills.
Very nice I found your channel yesterday and have been watching your videos non stop I’m learning a lot thank you for what you do and thank you for your service to our country
The DevilDog INN! 5 star accommodations for the U.S. Marine! Outstanding AF..... Coffee and Bacon served daily! It just needs a little bulldog running around as security. Semper Fi from an Army guy! Outstanding job keeping it interesting Corporal!!!
Chalk up a win, I started watching this video and my 4yo son heard it. He stopped watching his cartoons and came over and watched it with me. We both enjoy your videos keep up the great work.
This one was truly amazing! I really look forward to your posts on Sunday's and thank you so much for this one. Also you being a veteran I think this weekend it is appropriate to thank you for your service as I am sure you are thinking of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.. You started the fire a different way too! The additional wood fuel was elevated so it would naturally climb..... Yup..... I noticed. HAHAHA. Have a great weekend and thanks!
One of my favorite books in the 5th grade was " My Side of the Mountain ". I have a feeling you've read this. It's totally a great book for middle school kids.
As a 70 year old man I can imagine the amount of physical effort required to build something like this fortress of solitude. And it's very impressive. Thinking of you and your comrades on this Memorial Day.
It's a shelter but a defensible position.. This is great! I'm so hooked on this content right now. I'm hoping to find more on the portability of the pots and pans.... The candle stick trick was pretty clever! Great job as always.
Interesting shelter. It could easily be expanded some to make a winter shelter with a fireplace and a little more room. Nice job. Excellent video as usual. Can’t wait for see what other ideas you come up with.
Really awesome concept and execution. As a side note, I appreciate you giving credit to those you get ideas from. Too many RUclipsrs try to act as if they thought up everything ever created. Again, as was previously stated in the video, "Outstanding A.F."!
Great idea for my back 10 hillside acres. Only taller so can stand at least one of them. Multiple use as well! Love the knot teaching. Keep it up. Tysm
Just something I learned from earthbag construction; if you staple down 2 rows of barbed wire between courses of the running bond, the wall will be even more sturdy. Probably wouldn’t have that available in the wilderness, but would be handy if you’re making a long term camp. I learn so much from your channel. It both teaches me and makes me think. Thank you!
I'm here in Southeast Missouri, and teaching my family how to survive well anything. You will be part of what they see before they do. I was raised in the woods of Missouri, and a veteran as well. The skills to live outdoors are about lost to most, but needed for all. Keep up the awesome videos, I will definitely be back.
Corporal, this is now the fourth time I'm watching this video. Your attention to detail and craftsmanship has no match. I really enjoy the parts when you explain what you are doing, and why.
I like the way you explain what you are doing and why. Many of the bushcraft videos don't do this. Thanks. I like your video and it's very useful knowledge.
I loved this one. It reminded me of a "bunker" I dug when I was about 13. We put logs across and made the roof out of plywood scraps and then buried them, and buried an old barrel stove in one end. It was about 10'x5' It made it through a few nights before the sandy earth dried out so much from the stove that it started collapsing in on itself. Ah, a 13 year old's engineering failures and waking up with the roof caving in and having to dig ourselves out. Fun times, and this video brought back great 30 year old memories. Thanks Cpl!
You are a good teacher, a good man, a tough old marine this Navy veteran respects you! I've learned a ton of practical wisdom and knowledge! Thank you Corporal Kelly!
My heart is bad, weak... I can't do what you do, but I enjoy watching you do it, especially with a bowlen knot, and water repellent bags of dirt. Exceptionally fine video.
Outstanding build Kelly! Once again, the hardest working RUclipsr working for us...love it! For added "civilian" protection from the sun I'd add a cammo net over the whole thing. I did see David and Salty the other day making these Howlers and thought of you...heh.
You have outdone yourself again! Looking at some online information your channel is listed as “educational” and most all other bush craft channels are listed as entertainment. For me, I’ll take the education you deliver every week over “entertainment” on other channels.
Man I would love to see this one revisited to make a long-term winter shelter. Mud the walls over to camo it some and insulate it even more and build the clay rocket stove into the side for cooking and heating the inside that would be awesome
Perfect for a long term remote hunting shelter. Looks to me like it wouldn’t need to be rebuilt every year which is nice to limit one’s activity in the area. Temperature regulation by the underground build is phenomenal as well.
Oh, man, this one really hits home for a couple reasons. First: dear god, the suck encompassed in this video. Digging and filling sandbags in heat and humidity with still air... oof. Second: The death dog! There was a place I used to go to and get those, just on buns. Place burned down from a grease fire, because of course it did. But dear holy god, what a tasty thing a kielbasa fried with cheese and bacon is. Great vid. Oh, and props again for reusing sites and materials, because that's just being sensible.
Been having some rough days and restless nights. You’re videos are a great way to distract myself for just a little! Thanks Corp, look forward to more videos!
I still like the one where he used two tarps across from each other and it was raining. He made a reflective fire across from him under the other tarp. Can’t think of the title video name though.
I found your channel by accident. I'm a camper and love the outdoors. Your skills are impressive and teaching style excellent. I can tell you go through a lot of work to get the camera positioned just right and I like your "production style". Keep up the GOOD WORK corporal. Carry on!
Absolutely the best shelter I've seen done on the Tube. Hope they quit throttling you so you can keep it up. Just recieved my Canteen cookset from your link. Can't wait to heal up so I can head back to the woods. Thanks Corporal!

Glad to see your starting to get more recognition brother.
I served as an Army Airborne Ranger in Vietnam for 1969 - 1972. Whenever I was not on a mission and was back in the rear for stand down, my home sweet home was a sand bag hooch. Can't say that these were the good old days but are still remembered.
