    It's a damn shame Camillus went under. They made some great knives. I really liked their traditional like of folders.
    I'm a huge fan of the BK10. I put a set of ironwood scales on it, stripped the coating, and bought a custom leather sheath for it. That pretty much doubled the overall cost of the knife, but to me, it was worth it. Such a great knife!

      Nice mods.
      That is the fun part about these Beckers. You can leave them alone, or really go crazy and do stuff to them and make them your own and know that it will last a lifetime.

    Bk 10 is just wicked looking... I debated getting one but purchased their new BK18 Harpoon. It was my first Becker knife , I gave it my own convexing it's excellent steel. The tweeners have small handles though and need to be a hair thicker imho.
    I'm getting a bk10 down the road its one of those knives I've just always went back to when window shopping.
    The handles just look so comfortable and that blade shape is a great design. I might even consider letting go of my Tops Brakimo.... 🤔 LOL I always say that , but the herd just grows and grows...

      Thank you very much for your fantastic comment. If you can find a 10 regardless of the vintage, I would say go for it. But if you can afford it and find a Camillus version, I would say go for it!
      Thank you very much for watching. I do appreciate it.

    I use the widest flat bit on a wood burner and stipple the plastic handles. It works really well

    Really nice to see the difference. I really liked knives out of Camillus. I wish I still had any of them. My 2 favorites was a boy scout knife that was indestructible and a old coldsteel recon tanto. Both knives seemed someone decided they needed them more then me.
    Shame Camillus back in the 80s and early 90s put out some amazing knives and the best ones seemed to be for other companies.
    Really nice job you did on that 7 looks very professional.
    Anyway have a good one I just found your sites really enjoying it

    Hello! Nice video. I have an older BK2 made by Camillus and after taking the handles off noticed the tang has only 2 small screw holes for the handles. From what I understand the tangs on the Kabar version is a bit more cut out to lighten the knife up a bit.
    Was wondering if the older Camillus BK10 tangs were also simply 2 screw holes or more cut out to lighten them up. I kind of like the heavier, solid, full tang.
    Well, take care and have a good day. All the best to you.
    👍🏻🇺🇸. “Beer time!” Oh yeaaah! 👍🏻👍🏻

      The handles on this knife are skeletonized, however, there is a center post in the middle of the handle that has a hole in it for the middle nut and bolt. Very solid set up. Also makes the knife just a little more "choppable" which I like. I actually removed the center post from a BK2 and also the protruding butt which really sent the weight towards the blade. Loved that knife. Thanks for watching and participating.

      @@knifetimestory - Thanks for your reply! I apologize, I meant 3 small screw holes, not 2. I REALLY like Kabar-Becker Knives! Sooner or later I’m going to pick up one of those BK10’s. They are AWESOME! I subscribed. You have a great channel! 👍🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸

    Hello! I really like your review videos!
    Now , I am on my way to purchase a Ka-Bar BK10. Here in Sweden there are two models available: the one with the logo USA on the left side of the blade and another one , newer , with just NY on the left side of the blade . I wonder why this change , and if the blades are exactly the same. Can you illuminate me about my wondering?
    Thank you for answering
    Regards

      I'm excited for you. I love new knives.
      Not sure about the logo change other than companies do that periodically these days. It helps "date" knives that have been around for decades. Prior to the most recent blade etching, Becker used to actually cold stamp the name into the blade, leaving a permanent impression in the steel. I actually preferred that version. The black coating has also changed from a nice smooth coating, to the new "traction" coating that is allegedly more durable but is also much more rough to the touch.
      As long as you are getting the knife from a dealer, in a box, with all the paperwork, you can rest assured you are getting the real thing.

    Do you think this could be used as a garden trowel? I can’t find anyone making a hori hori with decent tool steel.

    • @knifetimestory
      @knifetimestory  2 года назад +1

      Okay, I have to admit, that is a bizarre question. I would not recommend this knife for that sort of digging. Sure, you can dig a small hole for a trap or some other survival thing, but as a garden trowel? Hmmm.

      @@knifetimestory Thanks for the feedback… Look up a “hori hori” it’s a garden knife used like a trowel, for planting, weeding, etc. It’s usually a double-edged scandi… of course soil makes for a dull edge, so usefulness as a knife is more limited (I use a separate harvest knife). They’re handy in the garden, but none of them are very well made, so I was looking at other options… Becker has called his bk2 a “sharpened pry bar” which is basically how you use a soil knife, but the more centered tip of the bk10 seems better for piercing soil.

    • @knifetimestory
      @knifetimestory  2 года назад +1

      Wow. I truly had no idea. I stand (and sit) corrected. In my years of experience with Becker and ESEE. I find that the 1095 Cro Van that Becker uses is an outstanding steel and holds an edge better than regular 1095. I'd say go for it and see how it holds up. I'd love to see it after some use. I'm sure that if you eventually wanted to, you could very easily put an edge on it and use it as a regular knife.
      Thanks for taking the time to so kindly explain what it is you meant. I really appreciate it.

      @@knifetimestory Thanks, I very much appreciate it! I might try a few things… another option is the Off-Grid Ridgeback, which is a bit less robust than the bk10 and also lacks the false edge. But it’s in 14c28n and has a scandi grind (so larger flat spot for moving soil). I also found a guy who would make me a Hori Hori out of 5160 leaf spring for $100. The BK10 just seems like such a great design with lots of aftermarket options… and like you said, at worst I end up with a great knife.
