  • Many places in the multiverse abound with beauty, intense emotion, and rampant magic; the Feywild, the Upper Planes, and other realms of supernatural power radiate with such forces and can profoundly influence people. As folk of deep feeling, barbarians are especially susceptible to these wild influences, with some barbarians being transformed by the magic. These magic-suffused barbarians walk the Path of Wild Magic. Elf, tiefling, aasimar, and genasi barbarians often seek this path, eager to manifest the otherworldly magic of their ancestors.

I've been playing this class and its actually saved my party on more than one occasion because I have abilities to prevent enemies from slipping past me and they are forced to fight me or waste a turn trying to get past me

I'm playing a tortle wild magic barb in my current campaign and its FUN. I've always considered barbarian to be too one-dimensional. 98% of the time you are hitting stuff or waiting for non-combat to be fixed by others. The aliexpress detect magic gives you a specific function outside of combat that you can use and abuse quite a bit. In combat, you just get cool shit. Theres a good chance of being able to do something at range or closing the gap. Once you get to reroll every time you take damage shit goes down. Just misty stepping into range of a caster and getting to beat on them alone is great. You also get to break concentration at range A LOT. From a cool factor perspective it's also really fun because you get to describe more, take more tactical decisions and just be awesome beyond the old Hulk Smash trope. Bolstering magic also gives extra damage, extra saves, support for others and better chances (stacking with other cantrips!) at succeeding on both in combat and out of combat rolls.
Oh and have your bard slap you until you can misty step beyond a gate to open it etc... Its a thing!
It alleviates the BoredBarian issue quite a bit. Might not be the most powerful but it will keep you engaged.

Played my first wild Magic Barb yesterday, it's actually nice to be able to have some utility in a session besides the usual I'm gonna hit stuff hard. Being able to teleport and give teammates spell slots during a fight was so rewarding.

    Personally I love it!
I’m playing in a campaign where the whole party are bards, so everyone is also multiclassing. My friend and I made our PCs a set of twins, Wild Magic twins with her as the wm sorcerer and me as the wm barbarian.
What’s my pc’s bardic subclass? Swords!
Yeah on paper this sounds pretty weird
But in practice it’s insane, my pc isn’t expected to inspire others since the whole party can do that so it’s safe to spend the flourishes to just enhance all the barbarian stuff.

I'm not sure if the damage not scaling is necessarily an issue here. The barbarian already does impressive damage with stuff like brutal critical, and they're not really hurting for ways to hurt people. I'm wondering if scaling damage would become a problem later on, but I will agree that a damage bump could be a neat idea.
On the other hand, while it isn't incredibly high damage, it's *Consistent* extra damage for free every turn, using your bonus action (Which barbarians notably have few ways to use) so I think it's probably fine to limit the damage since you can use the effects every turn with no drawback or resource management.
Overall though, I love the video and this subclass. I love that it brings some fun utility options to the barbarian and the flavor is awesome.

I mean... I'm currently making an 18 level wild magic barbarian, so reworking it would be great.

The youtuber 'Indestructoboy' has a great rework of this subclass on his patreon. The biggest thing it does is make everything a bonus action use and he makes them do something more at lv10. Usually in the form of an extra damage dice.

    Libarian.
A barbarian who had an accident involving a shipment of spell scrolls to the arcane library they worked for, resulting in their body absorbing wild magic. They are also not above throwing a book at your head if you don't keep your voice down.

I don't think this is originally my idea, instead having a d8 on the wild magic table have a d10, if the die lands on a 9 0r 10 that's grounds for rolling a D100 on the wild magic sorcerer table, fun lil change for more random tomfoolery, 1-8 remain the same

As cool as the effects of this subclass are as a martial class version of the wild magic sorcerer, I feel that the actual wild magic portion is missing the whole point of the appeal of subclass it's trying to mimic; the set of spells is very shallow and the range of spells is very small - they have very similar effects with little variance between the severity or the benefit of their effects, and even with the later effects you reduce the variance by being essentially able to pick what you want - IMO the main appeal of the Wild Magic Sorcerer are those *_really high highs_* and *_low lows_* caused by *_the randomness of the effects_* that *_you cant expect or predict and you have to adapt_* - I'd rather at this point just use the default wild magic sorcery table - or at least create a more wider, varied and interesting self-tailored wild magic sorcery table for barbarians

This seems like a subclass that some powergamer made. A magic barbarian makes about as much sense as a tanky rogue. The people that enjoy this class probably also like to multiclass into fighter simply for action surge and nothing else. Lame.
