  • I have a number of years experience running hollowchisel Mortiser’s, and this is just what I’ve learned over the years. I prefer the British pattern but unfortunately they are no longer made, but are often found with old vintage machines . #wadkintemple #architecture #woodworker #hollowchisel #sharpening

I absolutely did not know about the taper you showed at the end. So glad I watched this. And glad you made it!

I must be getting old. My mortiser only has British pattern chisels. I have used a 3/8 chisel and drill for decades after I decided to oil each cut, regardless of the wood. Cherry, walnut, red oak and ash easily absorb a bit of oil without harm.

Biggest improvements I’ve ever made is making sure that the auger is concentric to the chisel bore. It is shocking how poorly the bushings are made for the drill bits. Do this and the chisels run four times cooler
