That is true but for me it sounds like the language of the Celts which takes me off into a past time of magic..........................what i mean is if i know what they are saying it would modernise everything and the mystery would be lost.
Kencka fk Not exactly, its my impression of imagination in this case that would be shattered.........................having said that i do believe that learning as many languages and studying as many religions as possible will help any man or woman rise to the heights of wisdom.
This is Iceland language and it is an old song...1000 years old Saga .. I love to dance to this Sound on Medival Fairy´s and the Band play´s music in Geman, Turkish, Spain and other languages to... it is magical :-) love it
I have no idea what is being said but when I first heard this song was when my dad was dying. It made me feel a strange sense of peace and for that I thank Faun for creating such a beautiful song :)
only 1,081,952? seriously?????????? this is one of the hottest things i've ever seen. i'm american, i don't understand the language but i love the feeling... you are everything darlings!!!!
I love the chorus of this, when the two are singing together. Don't suppose anyone can get a translation to English of this? Skalat maðr rúnar rísta, nema ráða vel kunni, þat verðr mörgum manni, es of myrkvan staf villisk; Sák á telgðu talkni tíu launstafi ristna, þat hefr lauka lindi langs ofrtrega fengit.
Translation I found- No man shall scratch runes Not being able to use them well; Many a man is misled by dark forces. Ten secret runes have I seen Scratched on smoothed out fish bone; For the girl this has caused sorrow for a long time. Translation RUclips gave me to your comment- A man shall run up and down, unless you know how to handle it, it will happen to many people, es of myrkvan staf villisk; A case of counting talc ten letters carved, it has onion springs langs oftrega fengit Don't know which is more accurate but the RUclips translation seems to have left a few lines completely untranslated. I don't think it was built to translate old Nordic languages.
Faun is German band. Lyrics of this song are in icelandic/old norse (based on translator use and information on website linked down, more probably Icelandic rather than Norse) Edit: found whole original text with english translation: wikisaga.hi.is/index.php?title=Egla,_74
I love the old school electronic sounds mixed in that you just wouldn't expect in a folk song - it almost sounds like a Norse version of E.S. Posthumus, pure genius if you ask me
The moral of the story of this song, is supposed to be that when someone writes something that hurts you, writing something in addition is not good enough to heal. What was written wrong must first be erased, and then the new writ wrote.
Absolutely brilliant. Top video, top song. I need to read more about the history of celtic culture, folklore and music ;-) But no seriously, Faun are good, seen them live twice and always have time for them.
One of the few songs that still helps me to feel the sense of "love" that I wish I could know on my own. The only problem, in my case, is the irony of the song...
@StueyLestrange egils saga is an epic Icelandic saga. The oldest transcript (a fragment) dates back to 1240 AD. The saga is centered on the life of Egill Skallagrímsson, an Icelandic farmer, viking, and skald.
Wunderschöne Musik bringt einen zum träumen. ^^ Wonderful music brings one to dream. ^^ Macht bitte mit eurer Musik so weiter. ;) Continues please with your music thus. ;)
@davealcarin hey thanks a lot for the lyrics... I've looked for them for years... I even learned (or thought to learn) the words just by listening, but I wasn't sure what the lyrics were... thanks again
@ishraun I think that's because it's not Icelandic "per se", but Old West Norse...or like some others call it: Old Icelandic. I found several sites where the lyrics are written with old icelandic orthographic forms (and also slightly different pronounciation), like "maðr" and "ok" instead of "maður" and "og". But I'm really not an expert, it's what I think.
A captivating song by a captivating band. I've seen these guys four times and I love them to bits (even if Lisa is no longer in the group). I wonder where this video was shot.
@PaganBorn79 Oh, I see. It's such a fascinating invention for someone like me, who is used to the cartons. x') Thank you for answering and not ridiculing me for asking such a stupid question. ^^'
Actually Old Nors came from ancient Germanic. I Read a book on the History of Norway and the book had mentioned that most of the old Nors dialect had derived from the old Germanic language.
Gosh, I miss this Faun.
Absolutely!
Me too
Same here
Still great band best song of faun but some others are amazing too ❤
Ik 😢❤ook
oh how i loved this faun... they sound so different today. Its sad...

That's beautiful!!! ❤️
Faun, i have discovered my passion for music again, the fact that i dont understand a word they are saying just adds to the magic.
Nothing stops you from learning a new language. (;
That is true but for me it sounds like the language of the Celts which takes me off into a past time of magic..........................what i mean is if i know what they are saying it would modernise everything and the mystery would be lost.
James Bound
I see. One's impression of a language changes completely after learning it.
Kencka fk Not exactly, its my impression of imagination in this case that would be shattered.........................having said that i do believe that learning as many languages and studying as many religions as possible will help any man or woman rise to the heights of wisdom.
Phelan - thank You, this is a very good tipp
This group is such a blessing. Such beauty is rare nowadays.
It's sadly now even rarer, 12 years afterwards.
Even Faun don't sound like Faun anymore. And no, I don't like bands who are "evolving musically" when I liked them ESPECIALLY for the music they play.
The first song i was hear from this wonderfull gruop of artist! The performance ITS amazing!! I love It!
I Love Faun!!!
I'm here in December 2021 🖤
This is Iceland language and it is an old song...1000 years old Saga .. I love to dance to this Sound on Medival Fairy´s and the Band play´s music in Geman, Turkish, Spain and other languages to... it is magical :-) love it
I im Moari and id like to see you dance at the fire to this....
Very beautiful song 🧝🏻♀️😻
I have no idea what is being said but when I first heard this song was when my dad was dying. It made me feel a strange sense of peace and for that I thank Faun for creating such a beautiful song :)
FAun is the greatest group I ever heard!!! It touches my soul!!!
The woman singer with the blonde hair sort of makes me think of Miranda Otto/Eowyn from Lord of the Rings. :)
+Jakegothicsnake she looks like Diane Kruger
Her real name is Fiona Rüggeberg.
I dont speak Icelandic and i had to look up the lyrics to this song and it became my favorite song of all time. Makes me want to go learn it!!
I love this banda, one of my favorites!!! her music it's so beautiful!
it's old-islandic. beautiful song, beautiful atmosphere.
Whenever I feel a little down I watch this and get lifted up high.
What a wonderful mystic song!!!👍🌞💜
This is my favorite song by faun. :"

2:26 é auge do orgasmo. Que delícia! 😍
i don´t understand any word of this song but i love it. It´s best for relaxing and forget all the things arround me. :)
nice
This is my favourite "poem" fresh from Egils Saga with the best music ever. I don't want more.
I remember reading this a long time ago. I remember the book saying he killed his first person at 3 years old LoL
Yeah, he was a rather interesting figure for sure. He once vomited on someone. Yuck.
Still one of my favorites /|\
Enchantement germanique !
Eins der schönsten Lieder.Da ich island liebe .So schön ❤
The harmony is amazing! My new favorite group!
I really like how the singer goes sharp and flat at times. It just gives the song a more human, humble and indigenous genuine feeling.
It's a ancient version of Icelandic to those who asked
Thank you
This will always be magical.
So it's old Norwegian.
old norse you twat

Beautiful, beautiful song. Glad I found this band
Still the same beautiful song as I heard it long long time ago the first time 🖤
J'adore cette chanson vraiment magnifique
I love this song, it's so beautiful!
I Love it ❤️
The moral of the story of this song, is supposed to be that when someone writes something that hurts you, writing something in addition is not good enough to heal. What was written wrong must first be erased, and then the new writ wrote.
Du bzw ihr seid der hammer 🛠👍
This is one of the best things I have heard in a long time!
i've heard this song for years and always saught it while sad, i believe this is the first time i've crossed it while happy and content.
No me canso de escucharla Exelente
Beautiful!

@StueyLestrange I think they are singing about Egil skalagrimson, He was a Viking chieftain.
Actually Old Nors came from ancient Germanic. I Read a book on the History of Norway and the book had mentioned that most of the old Nors dialect had derived from the old Germanic language.
What an atmosphere is created..so soulfully earthbound..love their music.. far down south from Namibia it suits our desert so perfectly
