I wish there was a way to add a gearbox or simulate a gearbox to bring the enjoyment/engagement up with these EVs. The simple act of up/down shifting gives you so much more driver engagement and increases the overall enjoyment of the experience. Imagine the fun of having a 6-8 speed gearbox with the incredible acceleration these EVs bring. I think it would go a long way for driver experience.
Due to the broad powerband (almost maximum torque from 0 RPMs) and incredible rev range of most electric motors, there is no simply need. But, I agree. Just throttle brake and steering is pretty boring. The skill component of driving is progressively being taken out of the equation (not that paddle shifters add a great deal of challenge, but a proper H-pattern does).

@@blackpancake6354 I'm curious if it could be possible to simulate a gearbox without adding much weight. Possibly through software and maybe something like haptics built into the car to create the illusion of something mechanical happening through vibrations. I'm not an engineer, but it would be great to explore ideas like this because the feeling behind shifting brings so much fun to the experience for me. I understand EVs are the future, but doing something to preserve that visceral part of driving a traditional vehicle would go a long way.
Depending on the vehicular configuration, lifting may change the tractional balance of the car; the driver can use this to their advantage in maneuvering their vehicle. On AWD electric vehicles (such as this Taycan), this will likely “free up” some traction for the front tires - which would be employed longitudinally on throttle - and allow them to redirect more traction laterally, allowing quicker turn in. Edit: Additionally, lifting may result in a rear-biased engine braking effect depending on configuration (such as in RWD cars), whereby more traction would be redirected from the rear wheels to the front.
Good job Porsche! But this doesn't surprise me. You guys are the kings of the ring. What I want to see in this model is: 1. Less weight. 2. 761 hp available when you want it.
Obviosly neither the Tesla Plaid nor the Porsche Taycan are built for the track. An ev is currently only an daily driver car. But you can clearly see the Taycan is another level regarding brake and handling performance as the Tesla.
On another level? 2 seconds faster..don't forget, its purposly build as a sports car. (just like the Tesla Roadseter will be) And this Porsche had Pirelli P Zero Corsa sports tyres in this test. Not street legal tyres on which the Model S was only 2 seconds slower.
@@KaypangAsli No buddy, the taycan lost from the road legal (with standaard tyres) Plaid before. @@freakattack9616 did you read my comment? Or do you choose to stay ignorant as it fits your narrative / the thing you want to believe? The models also does not have carbon brakes etc etc. It's not meant as a sportscar. Porsche always has driving dynamics in their mind while building a car, at a cost ofcourse. Damn, I never knew the track was 20,832km long.
I think it would go a long way for driver experience.
but add gearbox will have more weight right?🤔
Due to the broad powerband (almost maximum torque from 0 RPMs) and incredible rev range of most electric motors, there is no simply need. But, I agree. Just throttle brake and steering is pretty boring. The skill component of driving is progressively being taken out of the equation (not that paddle shifters add a great deal of challenge, but a proper H-pattern does).
Straight -cut gears! Make it sound like a Muncie M-22 Rock Crusher please!
That would make it a more lightweight 2-speed gearbox and that would make her scream!
@@blackpancake6354 Straight-cut gears in it's 2 speed gearbox would be more lightweight, and make more wonderful noise!
Why does the driver lift and coast before some corners instead of a more aggressive approach? Would it unsettle the car or are the graphics flawed?
Depending on the vehicular configuration, lifting may change the tractional balance of the car; the driver can use this to their advantage in maneuvering their vehicle. On AWD electric vehicles (such as this Taycan), this will likely “free up” some traction for the front tires - which would be employed longitudinally on throttle - and allow them to redirect more traction laterally, allowing quicker turn in.
Edit: Additionally, lifting may result in a rear-biased engine braking effect depending on configuration (such as in RWD cars), whereby more traction would be redirected from the rear wheels to the front.
Still, any 911 > this...

The top of the line Taycan is much, much more expensive than the Models. The models also does not have carbon brakes etc etc.

It's meaningless to discuss or to say; that one is bad because the other was 2 seconds (over 7 minutes) faster.

What actual chassis development does. Good brakes, cornering abilities, weight balance and suspension setup means even a few hundred HP shy of a plaid, it's still faster around a circuit. Brilliant!
