While I've never been a big fan of Larry Holmes, I've always thought that he showed unreal heart and determination to get up from that Ernie Shavers haymaker. That Shavers punch landed squarely on target and Holmes went down as if he had been shot with an elephant gun. Yet the man somehow got up off the canvas and ultimately TKO'd Shavers. Props.
I can only compare the incredible sight of Holmes getting up from that shot from Shavers to Ali getting up from the Frazier left hook in their first fight......amazing.
Yes, Larry was a great champion, and very underrated. But after that punch from Shavers, he ran from one end of the ring to the other like a chicken with his head cut off!!!
Agree James - ironically [ for me anyway ] one of Earnie's best performances despite the rather strange end when he suddenly folded ; maybe he'd put just too much effort into those early rounds. Oh , and what a recovery from Lyle from that knockdown - maybe a tad fortunate that it was pretty much on the bell. As for Lyle vs Foreman - well , echoes of that in the third Wilder vs Fury contest perhaps.

+Reznick Boxing you should re upload this bro but at the start have all the interviews of all the boxers who say he's the hardest puncher they ever faced (Ali, Holmes, Lyle etc) with some sinister music, great vid though.
This man was the PUREST hardest puncher in Boxing History. Sure George hit hard, but look how BIG he was. He was 35 years old and got hit by bombs from Shavers that dropped a young Larry Holmes and destroyed Ken Norton. Earnie Shavers - Boxings' Hardest Puncher EVER!
The right that Earnie landed against Larry Holmes was one of the most accurate and devastating punches ever landed in a Heavyweight Championship fight! It would've knocked down a garage. Enormous respect to Larry for getting up from that. R.I.P. Earnie Shavers. I was always a huge fan.
I always rated him as a pounder, he was once asked bout his punching in an interview, he said "when I hit him he gonna stay hit" and you didnt doubt him for one second. Respect Earnie.
Rest In Peace Earnie shavers. The man who nearly dethroned the king of heavyweight boxing, the man with the greatest punch in boxing history. The man who ended careers. May he live eternally in the boxing hall of fame.
That probably has more to do with the construction of the glove. I never heard of foreman or tyson ripping their gloves but Im pretty sure they could punch
Ernie Shavers fought the best, gave everyone a hard fight, gracious in defeat, and well liked by all boxing fans, some sort of tribute in the Boxing World should be bestowed on Mr Shavers.
Imagine what would happen if he was around today! Todays heavyweights would've ducked him ten times more than they duck David Tua. And that says alot! I've allways enjoyed this video very much Rez, the only Shavers highlight in good quality. And ofcourse your editing makes it even more special. When will we see the drop of a new Reznick video? Looking forward to it man.
I'm beginning to see why I'm reminded of this man whenever Derrick Lewis gets a similarly brutal KO in the UFC, both bald, similar stature and love knocking people out cold
Watch 2:01 to 2:05. The two he knocked on their asses (Holmes and Norton, both world champs) fought each other in what many considered to be one of the top ten greatest heavyweight fights of all time. That's my man Earnie kicking both their asses.
+Hamza Ahmed According to Ali in a documentary they did about his greatest fights he claimed that he didn't remember anything after Shavers caught him in the second round and that his body was fighting of reflexes. I've heard of that but I never would have thought you're body could do that for thirteen more rounds and you still win the fight.
People who said Earnie Shavers hit the hardest: Muhammad Ali (fought Foreman, Foster, Frazier, Cooper, Liston and Lyle) Jimmy Young (fought Foreman, Lyle, Cooney, Norton and Sims) Larry Holmes (fought Tyson, Weaver, Cooney, Norton and Bonecrusher Smith) Ron Lyle (fought Foreman and Cooney) Leroy Caldwell (fought Bonavena, Williams, Lyle and Foreman) James Tilis (fought Morrison, Tyson, Weaver and Bruno) Joe Bugner (fought Frazier, Lyle, Bonecrusher Smith, Bruno and Cooper) Charley Polite (fought Frazier, Bob Foster, Merritt, Williams, Patterson, Foreman and Cooney) Tex Cobb (fought Bernardo Mercado) Trust me, only idiots say Shavers's power is overrated.
@@douglaswalters2670 Guess Frazier, Foreman, Sonny Liston, Ron Ryle, George Chuvalo, Ken Norton and Jimmy Young are all just blown up cruiser weights. Hell even for the time, Ali started fighting as a LHW and eventually grew to a HW so he isn't exactly a "big" heavyweight either.
@@douglaswalters2670 I mean Ali only weights around 210-236 lb in his fights with his "prime" weight being 214. Everyone I have listed is very close to ali's weight in which the few pounds didn't make much of a difference in the fight (him reaching 230+ lb is him just not training for the fight like Jimmy Young or Trevor Brick, well hard to train when you are sick lmao)
@@Faren_ _monster_ ?!??!?? hahhaahhahhahha good joke. He only KO'd bums and small men. His KO ratio against HW's that weight +215 pounds is less than 50%: 11 KOs in 23 fights. Top 5, in no particular order: Wladimir Klitschko, Lennox Lewis, George Foreman, David Tua, Sonny Liston.
@@Faren_ That's cause: - Foreman was not a very accurate puncher and didn't always land clean power shots on opponents - Shavers put everything he had into a shot, Foreman rarely did cause he was slow and didn't have time to put his weight behind his punches

He hit Holmes so damned hard it literally looked like the film skipped a frame or switched to stop motion. I saw that live and, the sound...When I hear people talk about Tyson who never saw Ernie fight or don't know who he is as if nobody hit harder than Tyson, I just shake my head and laugh.
@@H.K.5 liston was a big puncher no doubt but not as big as shavers plus liston was left handed n used orthodox stance thats why his left jab was powerful even george foreman who never fought shavers said shavers is hardest hitter he ever saw
It was a testament to Earnie's otherworldly power and Foreman respected that. But Foreman said it jokingly and if they had met,Foreman would have had the advantage of size, reach and punch resistance.
He was as hard of a hitter as there is. He just lacked that bit of stamina and defense that made it hard for him to go the distance. If he could have blocked a few more punches and went the 15 rounds it took back then, they would talk about him like Ali, Frazier and Foreman. In fact he could have easily been the champ for along time.
@@ethansandomire1110 I guess i should have said stamina at his starting pace. He tired and was less effective in the later rounds. He was a hard hitter, good fighter and I wasn't trying to demean his ability. But like Big George, he needed to get it done early to win.
@@FightNGear yeah you are right. but with extreme power comes lower endurance regardless of physical fitness. its a tradeoff in muscle types. look at track runners, marathon runners can go the distance while sprinters cant yet sprinters are so much faster and more powerful. If there was a boxer that had earnies power and Ali's stamina he will be undeniably the best boxer of all time by a long shot. No one would even come close to beating this imaginary legend.
@@ethansandomire1110 Exactly, which is all I was saying. I loved Shavers and he was always fun to watch. I was in the Navy and watching with all my shipmates when he damn near killed Norton, who I also liked. Those were the days in boxing.
Fighters seemed to have psychedelic experiences after being hit by shavers lol. Some of the descriptions below are amazing and terrifying at the same time. Talk about sending people to other dimensions lol
Looking at these brutal displays of punching power you can see that Shavers' finishing punch was usually an overhand right or a right uppercut on the chin. Earnie was a nice guy outside of the ring and got out of the fight game without any noticeable long term injuries or brain damage.
You got that right, Tony. Shavers fought in an era of some of the best heavyweights ever, and I think that in other time periods he would have been champ, no doubt. He'll always be my champ, though.
Foreman said on radio once that the only reason Shavers was never champion was because nobody wanted to get in the ring with him because he was so dangerous
@Boban Anish Mathew but... fighters that fought them says otherwise. They said Mayweather punch harder than manny. Probably the hardest in his era. Thats why his own Right hand got injured because of how hard he punches
Chris Hall this song fucking sucks, only 12 year old pre pubecent little teenie boys like this music, how about no music and using the original sound from the fights
The Ali Shavers fight is by far the best fight ever by heavyweights and Ali can take a punch better than any human ever Shavers hit him square on the jaw multiple times and Ali never fell he paid the price after that fight with brain damage but man could he take a hit
Indeed ! Tyson was faster and superior technique . But Shavers was always dangerous ... he could hurt Mike if caught him . Mike Beat Tillis but he never hit him almost cold like Shavers . Shavers was the hardest puncher period . Ali and Ron Lyle both stated this
Shavers was a tremendous hitter....and that's all. His technique and skills were mediocre. He failed to stop Holmes because he was a very limited fighter.
I'm afraid you don't know boxing all that well as Shavers actually boxed quite well and was also equally adept at brawling. The problem was simply height and reach, though Shavers reach was pretty good. In most bouts, however, he had to work to get in on an opponent and in doing so you often times have to take a lot of blows. Holmes is among the top five or ten boxers, ever, so a very game effort from Ernie fighting a younger, bigger man.
@@christophertyler5544 the biggest problem was his stamina. He was actually a decent boxer and blocked quite well but couldn't finish many of his opponents due to gassing out.
ali had a chin of steel. fuck granite, STEEL. steel is impenetrable. if u threw a cinderblock at ali he'd look at u and laugh. u can hit him with a 200 ton truck and he'd be still standing.
***** he was a middleweight though, and plus ali fought the hardest punchers ever and beat them, i mean shit he fought with a broken jaw TWICE, and he fought with early signs of parkinsons, he's the greatest fighter that's ever
The three hardest heavyweight punchers I ever saw live were Shavers, Foreman and Tyson. Both Ali and Homes said the hardest punches they ever got hit with were from Shavers.
My dad and I saw Earnie in Saginaw, Mi. in the early '80s. He dropped a guy with a body shot. That happens sometimes, but a lot of times the guy who got dropped gets up, but cant go on. This guy couldnt get up!
Tell me I am wrong , all these great punchers, could never beat a great boxer, and I repeat, a great boxer , who can take body blows , and had a great chin, we know who that is, they call him the greatest of all time, don't have to mention his name.
@@nameless9378 I know the point you're making, but it's wrong to say Rocky "wasn't a good boxer." He was not graceful, nor was he elusive or especially fast, but he WAS a *good* boxer. In fact, he was an *excellent* boxer. Winning the HW championship of the world, retaining it over 6 fights, and retiring undefeated demand that Rocky Marciano was an excellent boxer. He just wasn't a GREAT boxer.
I promise you that shavers fight with Ali is what gave Ali Parkinson's ! shavers punched like a mac truck and Ali was eating them . I'm sure Ali was concussed to some degree. ima go look it up .
Ali was already a shadow of his former self, unfit to fight Shavers, his doctor resigned, yet he somehow took his best shots. But he paid a heavy price for this and some other fights he would not have fought if he hadn't been forced from the ring for 3 1/2 prime years.
It was Ali's sparring sessions. Holmes revealed it, Shavers talk abouts it. Ali would have enormous men come in and hit him to no end, and even would get Shavers to knock him out at full force. Holmes at the time thought that damage was being done even if he made it look like nothing was happening. The worst thing that ever happened to Ali was finding out he could take an enormous punch and the loss of his endurance in his legs that he had when he was younger. The speed in his step was gone and he had to fight differently
OR it could be that his Parkinsons had absolutely nothing to do with boxing, like 99% of all other cases of Parkinsons. He's never even been knocked out, but who knows.
tintinesk5 I think your right about the sparring. Ali would let people who were very big and powerful, just open up on his head and body and full force. That must have damaged him over time. ITs true that he took some awful shots from Shavers that night and I was surprised he remained standing.
Undisputed underrated underappreciated. I'd like to think he's somewhere up in heaven knocking all the champs on there asses, making them wonder if they should get back up. For all eternity amen.

I remember watching that fight and couldn't believe Larry got up.I don't believe any modern day heavyweight would have.
The edits matched with the music was perfect!
Outstanding tribute to a legend🫡
I always rated him as a pounder, he was once asked bout his punching in an interview, he said "when I hit him he gonna stay hit" and you didnt doubt him for one second. Respect Earnie.
Rest In Peace Earnie shavers. The man who nearly dethroned the king of heavyweight boxing, the man with the greatest punch in boxing history. The man who ended careers. May he live eternally in the boxing hall of fame.
So who's here after the Joe rogan podcast?
Me
That's mad I have just literally done that exact thing 🤣🤣
Exactly this. Happy to have found out about this.
Lol that's crazy u said that
Yes
Is nobody going to point out the fact he broke his glove at 3:10? This man ripped a proffesional grade boxing glove on another mans body.
During just one fight!
Probably hit him in the mouth where the glove pushed his lip back and scraped against the edge of his tooth, causing a tear in the leather.
M Concepcion lmao wut the xD
Evander Holyfield did the same against Bert Cooper, in Round 5.
So..
Anyone who fought Earnie said that they had never been hit harder......how Larry Holmes got up from that punch was amazing.
George Foreman
"Thanks God I don't fight him (Earnie Shavers)"
He was the terror .....just USA champ... but 2x more powerful than a world champ like Vladimir Klitshko
When the fuck he said that
on Letterman show
One of the hardest power punchers ever! 🥊 Rest in peace.🙏
rest in peace to one or if not the hardest puncher in boxing history 🙏
Met this Gentleman in person, really great guy give plenty of time to talk.
Champion in the ring and out the ring👍
I met him in liverpool. He was a bouncer there. Ernie is a lovely guy as you said.
@@wonjubhoy damn imagine making trouble at a club and all of a sudden earnie shavers andi his fists/bombs show up behind u
Shavers punches so hard, highlights of him made Limp Bizkit listenable.
LMAO
Imagine what would happen if he was around today! Todays heavyweights would've ducked him ten times more than they duck David Tua. And that says alot!
I've allways enjoyed this video very much Rez, the only Shavers highlight in good quality. And ofcourse your editing makes it even more special. When will we see the drop of a new Reznick video? Looking forward to it man.
Earnie Shavers was a true bad ass..
0:41 Anyone else think that was Jerry Seinfeld reffing for a split second 😂
I'm beginning to see why I'm reminded of this man whenever Derrick Lewis gets a similarly brutal KO in the UFC, both bald, similar stature and love knocking people out cold
Watch 2:01 to 2:05. The two he knocked on their asses (Holmes and Norton, both world champs) fought each other in what many considered to be one of the top ten greatest heavyweight fights of all time. That's my man Earnie kicking both their asses.
1:25 "*hears birdies singing* Hey wait a minute ref, I think I'm knocked the fuck out. *takes a nap*"
Certainly one of the hardest punchers of all time. RIP Shavers. Those who knew respected you greatly
R.I.P Shavers! Hardest hitting heavyweight to date!, even effortless punches looked like they were bombs!, this man was ferocious!.
the only man who could match the power of sonny liston and george foreman, and mike tyson...
This just makes me realize how Great Ali is that he was able to take punches and defeat this Man when he was wayyy out of his prime.
People who said Earnie Shavers hit the hardest:
Muhammad Ali (fought Foreman, Foster, Frazier, Cooper, Liston and Lyle)
Jimmy Young (fought Foreman, Lyle, Cooney, Norton and Sims)
Larry Holmes (fought Tyson, Weaver, Cooney, Norton and Bonecrusher Smith)
Ron Lyle (fought Foreman and Cooney)
Leroy Caldwell (fought Bonavena, Williams, Lyle and Foreman)
James Tilis (fought Morrison, Tyson, Weaver and Bruno)
Joe Bugner (fought Frazier, Lyle, Bonecrusher Smith, Bruno and Cooper)
Charley Polite (fought Frazier, Bob Foster, Merritt, Williams, Patterson, Foreman and Cooney)
Tex Cobb (fought Bernardo Mercado)
Trust me, only idiots say Shavers's power is overrated.
Couldn’t have picked a worse song for an earnie shavers video
RIP Earnie Shavers, definitely one of the greats of the sport
I have no idea how Ali took those shots and stayed up. He has the best jaw of all time!
And that was when Ali was old and out of his prime. Imagine Ali in his prime tyson would not be able to touch ALI.
Because Ali was fighting blown-up LHWs and cruiserweights.
@@granddya5323 Yes, they were.
Foreman is the biggest of the lot 6’3 220 lbs in the 70s lmao
Usyk is just as big!
@@douglaswalters2670 I mean Ali only weights around 210-236 lb in his fights with his "prime" weight being 214. His punches are no joke holy shit 😂
shavers today would have put all the pretenders to sleep, he would have desytroyed the bums of today
Agreed, Annette. He'd destroy anyone fighting today.

hahhaahhahhahha good joke.
Michael Trumph My guy, everyone who fought both George Foreman and Earnie Shavers, said Shavers hit way harder.
@@Faren_
That's cause:
- Foreman was not a very accurate puncher and didn't always land clean power shots on opponents
- Shavers put everything he had into a shot, Foreman rarely did cause he was slow and didn't have time to put his weight behind his punches
Greatest of all time called this guy the strongest of all time 💀👍
Larry Holmes did not want to fight Shavers because he knew how hard he punched.
Holmes got knocked 2 times when he won against Shavers
I don't think anyone wanted to face shavers
3:43: Shavers-Quarry doesn't belong on a Shavers knockout vid because Quarry TKO'ed Shavers in the first round.
I thought the same thing when I saw the clip.
Just because a guy can hit doesn't mean he has a chin
@@clarenceleonard3237 shavers had a great chin.
Who's here wanted to see him again after he died today ?
I saw a quote on another video, from a boxer who fought against Shavers, can't remember who it was now:
"Earnie Shavers could hit you in your neck and break your ankle".
Who cares about the music being bad. Give Reznick all the credit in the world for making this video. Reznick thank you for making this video. You deserve more subscribers.👊✌👍👏

RIP Earnie, Hardest Hitter in Boxing 🥊🥊
Earnie Shavers certainly a Champion without a 👑
He hit Holmes so damned hard it literally looked like the film skipped a frame or switched to stop motion. I saw that live and, the sound...When I hear people talk about Tyson who never saw Ernie fight or don't know who he is as if nobody hit harder than Tyson, I just shake my head and laugh.
The hardest hitter in history, ever.
Shavers.
Foreman.
Wilder.
Pound for pound, it's Gerald McClellan. If we're talking about overall power, I'd say it's Sonny Liston.
Hamza Khaliq Ali said Shavers hit harder
@@tsmokes5687 Liston never hit Ali flush like Shavers did. I'm convinced Liston hit harder.
@@H.K.5 liston was a big puncher no doubt but not as big as shavers plus liston was left handed n used orthodox stance thats why his left jab was powerful even george foreman who never fought shavers said shavers is hardest hitter he ever saw
The only boxer that George Foreman ever expressed thanks for not having to face. Think about that.
It was a testament to Earnie's otherworldly power and Foreman respected that. But Foreman said it jokingly and if they had met,Foreman would have had the advantage of size, reach and punch resistance.
@@ankitpatra5042 depends,
I have watched Ali-Shavers many times
Still haven't seen Ali win
RIP to a great puncher and nice man.
Well said
Damn! I had no idea Shavers was so devastating.
@@FightNGear stamina?? he went the full 15 with Ali.

Sadly, death took him away. But im sure earnie beat the heck out of it on the other side
R.I.P Legend
Looking at these brutal displays of punching power you can see that Shavers' finishing punch was usually an overhand right or a right uppercut on the chin. Earnie was a nice guy outside of the ring and got out of the fight game without any noticeable long term injuries or brain damage.
Ernie workedxas a biuncer in liceroool, i don't thibk msny people argued with him a real gentkenan byt dear god ge coukd hit wgeb he gad to.
Most beautiful punches Ever thrown, like the Tiger Woods of punching technique! ❤❤❤❤
Shavers was without doubt, the greatest heavy weight champion we never had. Great fighter who would have eaten today's contenders for lunch
I am a fan of The Acorn but he was never champion.
Punchers in boxing
Mayweather: toyota prius
Wilder: 4x4 pickup
Tyson: Semitruck
Foreman: Train
Shavers: Wrecking ball
@Boban Anish Mathew but... fighters that fought them says otherwise. They said Mayweather punch harder than manny. Probably the hardest in his era. Thats why his own Right hand got injured because of how hard he punches

Ali said that Earnie Shavers was the hardest puncher and hit even harder than Foreman!
And Ali should know.
The Ali Shavers fight is by far the best fight ever by heavyweights and Ali can take a punch better than any human ever Shavers hit him square on the jaw multiple times and Ali never fell he paid the price after that fight with brain damage but man could he take a hit
Ali said thus was the strongest guy he's ever faced and hit the hardest of all even George Foreman!
Now Shavers/Tyson would have been epic!
He's too slow for PEAK TYSON
Indeed ! Tyson was faster and superior technique . But Shavers was always dangerous ... he could hurt Mike if caught him . Mike Beat Tillis but he never hit him almost cold like Shavers . Shavers was the hardest puncher period . Ali and Ron Lyle both stated this
Nah Tyson wasn’t known for having a good chin and if shavers landed a flush shot on his chin I think it would be knockout for shavers
Tyson would destroy Shavers, wouldn't have been epic at all. Now Tyson vs Liston. That's a fight.

Shavers is not even top 5
Shavers was a tremendous hitter....and that's all. His technique and skills were mediocre. He failed to stop Holmes because he was a very limited fighter.
Very, very limited beyond the big punch. That's why he was never a Champion.
More to do with his stamina
Bet you a million dollars you wouldn’t have that opinion if he punched you.
I'm here after seeing Ali's short about Ban roll on Ernie Shaver.
ali had a chin of steel. fuck granite, STEEL. steel is impenetrable. if u threw a cinderblock at ali he'd look at u and laugh. u can hit him with a 200 ton truck and he'd be still standing.

Hugh Hefner Who is he? Ive never heard that name before.
Mike exactly
***** he was a middleweight though, and plus ali fought the hardest punchers ever and beat them, i mean shit he fought with a broken jaw TWICE, and he fought with early signs of parkinsons, he's the greatest fighter that's ever
One of the hardest punchers EVER!

The uppercut both at the same time
4:07 Ken norton thinking.. men where's that truck that just hit me.. ?
The three hardest heavyweight punchers I ever saw live were Shavers, Foreman and Tyson. Both Ali and Homes said the hardest punches they ever got hit with were from Shavers.
My dad and I saw Earnie in Saginaw, Mi. in the early '80s. He dropped a guy with a body shot. That happens sometimes, but a lot of times the guy who got dropped gets up, but cant go on. This guy couldnt get up!
I would say shavers Ron Lyle and George foreman
Interviewer: “you ever fought Earnie Shavers?”
George Foreman:”No……thank God!”
Tell me I am wrong , all these great punchers, could never beat a great boxer, and I repeat, a great boxer , who can take body blows , and had a great chin, we know who that is, they call him the greatest of all time, don't have to mention his name.
You're wrong
Joe Louis, or Rocky Marciano?
@@neilm2794 Ali😂😂 Marciano wasn' t a good BOXER (in terms of skills) and Joe Luois had a normal chin he would get knocked down but he would got up.
Muhammad Ali.
Ali could rake a punch, even from Shavers
OR it could be that his Parkinsons had absolutely nothing to do with boxing, like 99% of all other cases of Parkinsons. He's never even been knocked out, but who knows.
tintinesk5
I think your right about the sparring. Ali would let people who were very big and powerful, just open up on his head and body and full force. That must have damaged him over time. ITs true that he took some awful shots from Shavers that night and I was surprised he remained standing.
The weirdest thing is it doesn’t even look like he’s hitting them hard but they’re all folding
Who’s here after the joe rogan podcast lol
