@@DrTrefor I now feel spoiled because in the math building of my university (Zürich Switzerland) various rooms where you can study with colleagues/friends have those chalks. And yes, they are so nice to use!!

Congratulations! You helped me through discrete mathematics at uni. The help that you’ve provided to students across the world is astounding and you deserve everything and more!
Ok ... I'm an engineering professor and I have long since migrated to a glass board and markers. But I did use chalk for years and years. One thing I want to bring up: the erasability of a chalk mark is going to be a function of the chalk itself and the finish of the slate onto which you're writing. I have not studied the problem but I suspect erasability is an interface issue, which is chalk and slate dependent.
I'm not really a math gal but I must admit this video was so charming, to watch someone get so excited over a piece of chalk. Congratulations on receiving your PhD, I wish you all the best.
Oh, wow! I'd heard about this exact, mystical chalk and how college professors were hoarding boxes of it a few years back. Super cool that it's been brought back into production!
I had gotten my linear algebra professor two boxes after discovering it in 2013 and she loved it. Unfortunately, the university seems to be held captive by their preferred vendor and the department didn’t find the chalk worth the battle.
Congratulations! Also, my friends and I once got kicked out of a classroom we were studying in because the maintenance person said the chalk we used (Hagoromo that my friend managed to get) caused a "ridiculous amount of dust", haha.

I exactly know what you are trying to say, I have seen Mathematicians and Physicists start simpping towards Hagoromo chalk before, and you are no different. the excitement is real and we all know it.
Holyshit, our teachers had a black market lf these chalks. One teacher couldn't afford the full touch so used to use a non plastic coated one. Gave me one back in the day because I answered a question correctly. Then there was this teacher who used to hoard these and never let anyone touch it. He had the full touch but for odd reason used a chalk holder defeating the purpose of that I'm not someone who fantasises over chalk or math but his reaction to how the chalk feels on the board is 100% accurate or probably even downplayed. It was the most satisfying thing in the world even when I wrote with what was just a small bud
Many schools are transitioning to white board and markers in their classrooms where I live so I bought a white board and some markers for me to check out and it was good. There was no dust and you could rub it with anything without any smears or residue on the cloth. A year back I was learning Physics and Maths (still am) and naturally the urge of "scribbling equations" came out in me and I used to solve a lot of problems on my white board but I used to see my professors and other RUclipsr scientists "scribble equations" on a black board and I don't know why but I instantly thought that it was better. Now I have more fun learning and solving Physics and Maths on a blackboard with chalk. Earlier I used to think of my professors who loved blackboards as just a preference but the more I learn Maths the more I want to spend time scribbling on a blackboard, it just feels more handy, close and natural.
ok. I get it now. That's a beautiful piece of chalk right there. I was already impressed with how it writes. AND THEN YOU ERASED IT? Many professors I know prefer whiteboards now but this formula of chalk known as Hagomoro is delivered to us from the sacred lands of Japan and will ultimately be an entity that preserves to us the lost joy of writing on chalkboards. It's a shame they went out of business.
i really missed the blackboard and chalk in schools here, they first chaged them for simple whiteboards with markers that were always dry and worked poorly, then changed to these interactive boards (that were just giant touch monitors for writing) always attached to the most crappy pc they could find in the school basements because schools in italy have little to no budget and are falling apart (i went to a school that actually had multiple windows falling out or ceilings developing cracks in a year). I think writing with chalk actually gave me 10iq points.
Last time I brought Hagoromo it comes with a little plastic box for you to carry chalk around and a plastic holder to even further prevent dust on your hands.
I used to own a few whiteboards but soon discovered that I still prefer the blackboard - despite of the dust. As of today, I am the proud owner of a box of colorful Hagoromo chalk. From my first stroke on the board I could tell this is the good stuff and it is easy to understand why there is this myth about not being able to write a false theorem with this chalk. I am not sure if you now also have different colors but those colors are even more amazing. "regular" color chalk is even harder to wipe of than the regular white chalk but the Hagoromo wipes almost as easy as the white Hagoromo and the colors are much brighter than from other chalk brands.
@@Purple-f6d I have no idea. Hagoromo write easier than the cheaper chalk I have but it is also softer so how long the chalk lasts depends a lot on how hard I press on it. With Hagoromo it is much easier to create thick/thin lines than with regular/cheap chalk.
@@Purple-f6d Yes, you do 😁 I got one of those 12-chalk boxes with white + colors and had to buy a large box of whites just to make sure I don't run out of chalk (there's only 3 white chalks in that set). I think I want a box of primary colors too but I don't use them that much (yet)
