- After my previous attempt ( • KSP: Scott Manley's 70... ) to complete Scott Manley's 70k challenge ( • Shortest Possible Spac... ) I had a decent time of 2:02, but that wasn't good enough... So this time I made a much bigger ship, clocking in at almost 1000 parts. I was able to score a time of 1:30 even (one could probably argue 1:29). Ironically, seeing as the beast made my machine lag so much, the actual video is significantly longer.
This footage is all from the fantastic game Kerbal Space Program... if you haven't already... heck even if you have, get it on Steam or buy a copy: buy.kerbalspace...
The winner of this challenge will be decided by counting frames past a second tick I believe. I don't think the minute mark will be broken, my guess is the winner is in the 1:10-1:15 range.
I can't continue to improve my time of 2:23 for 2 reasons.
1: I use FAR. I will *never* get rid of it, even for a challenge. EVER
2: Computer is way too crappy to build a nice powerful rocket with a bunch of the advanced engines and those cheat-ish physics-less engines
Either way, Matthew, I believe you can do even better than 1:30 :D
That's insane. Nicely done!
Nice one. liked the staging on the rcs motors.
Speaking of which, I was playing around with this setup earlier on the launchpad. Although the ship should have had more than enough TWR it just stays on the pad until some point I can't quite determine and then shoots off the pad as it immediately realizes it should be moving. Anyone know what I'm missing? My searches haven't found anything.
Jeb Odle I've had similar things happen, sometimes I think the ship geometry clips the ground and gets stuck.
What if you tried lithobraking instead of parachuting?
This deserves a sub, methinks
Nahhh, needs more boosters...
Henster is all business.
stop making Scott Manley cry in the corner because your better then him!
hmm good run... although.. you landed on the mountains which means 3000 some meters higher than the lift off point. might be a technical penalty for that. love the RCS staging !
The challenge is to get to space and then land on Kerbin as quickly as possible. So his using the mountains is not him cheating or breaking the rules. It's just a smart decision. :)
mo' eggs What about lifting up from the mountin.... lift from the top most.. i think 7000 meters or so eliminate a lot of air resistance.
your clock is slow
as he said in the description, when KSP has large numbers of parts loaded time pases slower in game meaning that 1 min in KSP may take 1:30 in real life
