Floyd Patterson is one of my idols not just as a boxer but as a man. He was a humble modest gentleman who cared about people and he was so logical and cerebral of his views of the world
A wonderful film, thank you! Floyd was not only a great champion - one of the most underrated of all time! - he was also a true gentleman and a credit to boxing!
Mr Patterson visited my Uncle’s gym, the Main Street Gym, in California while training for the Jerry Quarry fight. He taught him some tricks with the peekaboo stance (60% weight on the front, 40% back). You’re on your heel on your front and your toe on your back. This will line the hips up. Notice when you take a step when you walk in your everyday life, you take a step with your front foot and your front heel hits the ground. Also, you leave the ground on the toes of your back foot for the next step.
This was incredibly moving!!! Floyd Patterson is an example of true humanity, and yes, greatness! I wish young people had role models like him to look up to now!
Training at Floyd’s gym was an amazing time for me from 1975 to 1982! Awesome memories. The video at the end of this documentary is of Floyd and I sparring. This had to be about 1976. I was 18 years old. Having the opportunity to spar with Floyd 3 or 4 times a week was an amazing opportunity for me! So many memories from that time! I hitch hiked 25 miles there and 25 miles back to Ellenville the first three years 5 to 7 days a week to get to the gym from Ellenville. So many crazy things happened trying to get to the gym during those years.
My maternal grandfather worked with Floyd’s younger brother Ray who lives in Torslanda outside of Gothenburg and was a truck driver at Volvo. He also attended the fight between Ingemar Johansson and Eddie Machen at Ullevi. I’ve also sent a letter to Ray praising him, Floyd and Ingemar for their accomplishments in boxing.
He still holds both records. Youngest man to ever win the undisputed heavyweight title. Tyson won a version of that title. Secondly he was first man to regain the title. A great mentor of mine.
Floyd was one of the most God blessed people to ever walk our earth. I only met him once but as I learned more about him as a person , I only wish I could be half the man he was and that I knew him much more. In the 1980's a co-worker who was a friend of Tracy Patterson told me about Floyd's barn/boxing gym and how open he was to letting anyone work out there. As hard it was to believe and because I couldn't afford anything at that time, I decided to check it out one Sunday morning at about 0700 hoping no one would be around to ask questions. Well, no one was around for about 15 minutes. Then , Floyd shows up. OMG! WTF! This incredible man simply asks me why I was there and if I wanted to learn about boxing. After shaking like a martini and telling him yes sir, all I can remember is him in front of me, in the same boxing stance that he assumed against all of his opponents, giving me instructions on how to box. Unique feelings may come over you when you are positioned against a world heavyweight boxing champion in his fighting stance. Not so with Floyd. Calm, collected, patient, helpful, caring ........this man was remarkable!!
Hey man I’m JAYDAN William Patterson this guy was my grandfathers brother son proud to hold the Patterson name I gotta do better for my family 🙌 proud to say I am a Patterson
I’ve sent a letter last wednesday to Floyd’s brother Raymond who lives in Torslanda outside of Gothenburg. Where I praised both Floyd and Ingemar and told Ray that my grandfather had worked him for a period.
Floyd Patterson was my boyhood hero! I watched many of his fights that was televised locally. Remember, this was in the 1950's and 60's and sports broadcasting was in its infancy. I remember marveling at Floyd's hand speed and punch combination during his second fight with Tommy Hurricane Jackson. He was a fighting champion and despite his greatness, his humility endeared him to many. A quiet man, a great man, and he wore the Heavyweight Crown with much, much dignity. I have an autographed photo of him that resides at my home He stood at the very top of Heavyweight Champs in character qualities category and not one of the long list of Heavyweight Champions in the history of boxing was his better. Rest in peace Floyd, and thank you for your presence in boxing. Many, many fans of yours mourn your passing
An Amazing Man ! Inside and outside of the Ring ! I remember growing up and hearing my Dad talk about Mr. Patterson and how amazing he was ! My dad was a Golden Gloves (champion) boxer and so was my Son.
1:43 Being a Tyson fan boy I knew Cus had influence on both, but that sequence right there makes it hard to tell them apart. The peekaboo with his hands up high n tight, the left hook body with ferocious intentions and the gazelle hook that put him down
Mr Patterson is my mothers father.... Which would make him my Grand Father .... I will talk about this in my up coming book. I see a lot of similarities in terms of character and my physical build ... Good to see he was a good man ...
That’s awesome! Your grandad was the man!!! I’d love to read another book about Mr. Patterson. He led an incredible life and was an inspiration. My favorite fighter ever and my grandfathers favorite as well! Apparently my grandfather was used as a sparring partner on one or two occasions for Floyd. Sometime when I think of him, I’ll go watch Floyd Patterson’s old fights.
Floyd Patterson was boyhood idol. The way he carried himself..a true gentlemen...I bought his book.." victory Over My self" I read it so many times it became unreadable..anyway Floyd was a great champion and a great human being RIP Floyd your boxing misses you
People are born with Autism and it affects your development. I have improved drastically on my communication skills. Aspergers is high functioning so I'm lucky today
He was traind by cus'd'mato , who later went on to train tyson, also a fun fact: tyson style of boxing was called peakaboo boxing because of patterson and not tyson.
Him and Ali didn't like each other they fought twice. If I turn pro I want to shed light on Autism cause it's a real condition. And Aspergers means a lot to me. I could possibly be a speaker for Aspergers.
Did you ever think maybe Patterson had Asperger's or something similar? Not really a question that can be answered, of course, but I wouldn't be surprised.
If Marciano would have hanged around couple more years, Rocky would have sent Floyd too bye bye land!! And Sonny would not have the honor of destroying Floyd
unfortunately .... Floyd was borne with a GLASS JAW , and that berayed him many times like with with Johanson For a heavyweight he was on the small size . For many years as champion he he dodged top contenders while fighting such LUMINARIES AS Roy Harris of Cut & Shoot texas , an unranked amateur which brought on a lot of criticism from the boxing world . Cus Damato hid him from real contenders as Zora Foley and ..... Sonny Liston ! Ali actually liked Floyd , and allowed Floyd to Call Him CLAY ... when he NEVER ALLOWED ANYONE ELSE TO call him Clay . Ali did say Floyd was the most skilled boxer he fought ... that says something . I wish Floyd would have gotten that third Liston fight to right his record . Floyds fight with George Chavalo was probably his best fight as far as showing how skilled he really was . A class act is the final description that leves him so much respect as a huam being . R I P Floyd !

Real talk. He's a great man in general. So modest.
Idol sends the wrong message; the word means worship and no man is to be worshipped!
I echo your sentiments 100%--I met him when I was a child-one of the highlights of my life
A wonderful film, thank you!

It doesn't matter Tyson is the youngest hw champ in history
Such a gem as a documentary. Thank you for uploading this.

Very moving. Made me cry. Loved this.
This was wonderful. Floyd Patterson is such an inspiration and this little student doc did him a solid justice. Very moving.
The only guy that Muhammad Ali let call him "Cassius Clay" until the day he died.
He was very popular in Sweden.
I read his auto biography. A very humble and kind person.
Respect
Floyd älskade Sverige och såg det som sitt andra hemland, hans yngre bror Ray fyller 80 i höst bor i Torslanda.
I love and respect Patterson more than any other boxers..
Right there with ya pal.
My favorite boxer when I was a kid watching boxing on our Black and white TV

I don’t box at all But I love the sport and I never met my grandfather my dad just told me about my family on his side.

I was a shy an awkward kid in school and as a result got picked just like him. And I discovered Boxing at 16. God Bless him
Thank you!
He lived his life the right way. Good Human being. He struggled he was insecure growing up. But a good man
Fantastic production and video. Mr. Patterson was a great fighter and gentleman!
I had the same type of complex, boxing became therapeutic because it gave me self-esteem.
Interesting phenomenon. I wonder if other champions had similar problems
That first Quote is so spot on , all the shit you have gone through and put up with, it’s the Fuel to use and smash people...
A true champion!

Great to see this, Floyd was the greatest thing that ever happened to me.
A truly remarkable individual.
Great doc. Great fighter and a class act. Thanks

I think possibly P4p top 10 of all time. even more underrated than Langford
Easily the most overlooked, underrated HW champion in history imo.
i hope they make a film about Mr. Floyd Patterson.
Floyd was different he's gone but he left a legacy in the sport. Ali was a better fighter however I liked Floyd's personality
Ali had a lot bigger bone structure. Floyd was p4p almost as good
R.I.P. F. Patterson
What do I have to do to make it better - Floyd Patterson
Underrated as h*ck
thanks

Handsome gent that Floyd
❤❤❤😍😍😍🐐🐐🐐
Thought the second Floyd Paterson off the 60’s was better than prime Paterson of the 50’s
That Lunging left hook looks identical to Tyson's

Floyd Patterson is the opposite of Floyd Mayweather

7:08 not exactly what happened but kind of?!
Jesus is the only way to heaven
Beating ali (at his peak)was part of this guy's imagination.floyd was a nice man,who knew his limits.
Love Floyd, but he never had a chance of beating Muhammad Ali.
Lol ali wasnt god y'know
Floyd Patterson was overrated, just like Mike Tyson. They failed against the best
Greatness?? 😆 😆
Very good boxer but bad VERY BAD CHIN!!!!!!!
Well he always got up, so how bad could it really be?
I thought this was about a “Rabbit”!
