Su-75: Why India is the only ray of hope for Russia’s ‘Checkmate’ 5th-gen fighter | WION Game Plan

  • Russia designed the Su-75 fighter jet keeping India in mind. It’s built to rival the American F-35 and Russia aptly calls it the ‘checkmate’. Russia’s 5th generation stealth fighter has been stuck in limbo amid cost overruns, Western sanctions and geopolitical bottlenecks and needs a helping hand to co-produce it. Is India the only ray of hope for this flying Russian beast?

India should join Su-75 programme,if only we get some knowledge and insights on how to build and work on a 5th generation fighter which willl only help us to better design and build AMCA.

*India's AMCA program is far ahead to achieve. Projected timeline for AMCA is 2031. And India needs 10 more squadrons of fighter aircrafts to maintain its 44 squadrons Air Strength. If we will be too lucky, we can get deliveries of AMCA on 2033. Now it is 2024. Pak Air force are going to acquire Chinese J20s within next 5 years. I think we should consider it as a Stop Gap between 2024-2034. And India should buy atleast 20 to 24 Su-75 within 5 years.*

The SU=75 is needed by India as development of AMCA will take its own time, which maybe too long and India doesnt have a single stealth aircraft as the Rafale is not that stealthy..however India also walked out of a joint venture with the Russians to develop a stealth fighter...so it is still a hypothetical question whether india should buy another russian fighter though the need is there

I think the interest of both nations in long term pursuit for alliance of choice vary. Sooner or later Russia will choose to ally with Iran against the US and Israel, whereas India is aligned to US and Israeli interests right now. In view of that it might be difficult for the two countries to maintain mutually benefitting ties, especially with a powerful China that Russia needs against the west, a China that has traditionally been a dependable Pakistan ally and has had negative outcomes in their relationship with India.
I am seeing a potential group of allies that comprises Turkey Iran Pakistan China and Russia against US Israeli Indian alliance, with a layer of support generally in the west and some Arab nations, the UAE for example.

USA and India may be 'friendly' but are they at risk of sanctions from USA if they make a wrong move geopolitically? Why buy a platform from a country who knows all it's strengths and weaknesses, better to develop something on your own.

The US could sell its aircraft to India, perhaps even at a discount. But they certainly will not share technology, and such a deal will make India critically dependent on the wishes and whims of the world hegemon. The United States can at any time stop supplying spare parts and ammunition for its equipment; there are plenty of examples. In contrast, the Russian Federation will do business with India by analogy with the BRAMOS missiles, which are now being produced in huge quantities in Indian factories and exported, the benefits for India will be incredible. It’s worth forking out for it, not to mention the fact that the Russian Federation is an old friend and ally.

  • @nyxawesome9409

India should join SU-75 collaboration and also buy a few squadrons ready and work on it's AMCA fighter. Fighter Jet building is an art and needs decades over decades of design and improvement, which Russia already has. Also, best test of machinery and mettle is War, of which Russia has been having decades of tried and tested and proven capability.
India lost so may decades because of sanctions and even lack of political will and even sheer naivety of governments in both Defense (Offence) and also Space.
India should never stop it's drive to become self-reliant and self-sufficient, but also needs to be ready for anything "right now".

It’s highly unlikely that India would go for Su-75, If hostilities with China escalate before AMCA is ready India may purchase limited numbers of Su-57 but investing in Su-75 development doesn’t make sense.
Another factor against procurement of Su-75, is the flying coffin experience with Mig-21, India should be wary of repeating the same mistake.
Already with the war in Ukraine, the Mission availability of Sukhoi, Mig, Mil, Antonov and Ilyushin fleets of Indian Air Force has suffered and reduced, so there’s no guarantee of any future purchases from Russia.

The big problem with the idea of india buying su 75 or 57 is sensor fusion and data processing capabilities russias sensors and networking capabilities are just nowhere close to good enough to produce true 5th gen fighter especially with current sanctions the best you can realistically hope for is a stealthy jet firing missels that fail a little to often that cant really coperate or share radar imaging with other jets with ai worse than tesla self driving software😂 yes it would handily defeat any 4th gen fighter but chinas. j 20 would on average swat it out of the sky by sacrificing 1 drone for a radar lock and firing away from beyond visual with the rest of the wing

In other words, maybe OK for strike missions past enemy air defense but not very good at defense or ground support against a near peir, like China so useless for India

@@nileshsharma9220they do have air superiority, but in the modern era of drones, radars and advanced SAMs its more restrained than previous eras of war.
