- Practical information on moving to Lanzarote after Brexit. Anne and I moved to Lanzarote in 2021. We did our visas, our TIE, our 3/4 year renewal and our 4/5 year renewal ourselves, so I can talk from practical experience.
Here's a link to my blog, which goes into more detail on making the move.

Excellent video we are just starting the process your explanation has put our minds at ease. Thank you
Thanks for your comment Tracy. Good luck with the process.😎
Excellent video mate. Nice and concise and on point. Cheers
@@thaumaturgeishere331 Thanks for your comment. Glad you found it useful.
Excellent video.
We're uk and fuerteventura. Managed to aquire an Irish passport (the golden ticket) and the TIE was pretty straight forward.
Thanks for your comment. We both have Irish ancestors but unfortunately one step too far back to qualify. Enjoy Fuerteventura - spent many great holidays there and will be visiting soon.

I am very lucky, I moved to mainland Spain with my partner and small family over 23 years ago, so we were very fortunate to have moved long before brexit. I was very interested to see how the post brexit visa system works, so I can share this information to friends and family who might be interested in moving here. Thank you for your detailed step by step guidance, it is very useful😊
@@neecierussell595 Thanks for your kind comments. Wish we could have moved pre- Brexit but it wasn’t the right time for us. Anyway, we’re over the major hurdles now. Hope your friends and family find it useful.
@HolaLanzarote2024 Thank you, I'm sure with your perseverance and attitude, you will easily overcome those last few hurdles. Here's to a long, happy life in Spain, and in your case Lanzarote
@@neecierussell595 Thank you for watching and for your supportive comment.
Love Lanzarote, been visiting since the mid 80's I'm hoping to live there eventually! Lucky you! 😁

Thank you, simple & informative
Something to think on. At some point the gov pension will probably end up being means tested, that would reduce a couples income by quite a lot!!!
Best idea is throw your British passport in the sea along with any relevant paperwork and become an immigrant no money needed and free board and lodging
Tell me how that went for you. 😂🎉 (What do you mean you didn't have the cojones? 😮).
Well said sir thanks for the advise its much simpler
@@louisburlingham6249 Don't you think your accent and possibly monoglot skillset will give you away to the Spanish authorities?
PreBrexit Spain could send you back to uk under the Dublin agreement. Post brexit, it’s not so easy to return you.
Great information 👍👍

One question 0 we were married in Florida so the certificate is through the courts there - would we need to ask them for a new marriage certificate? If you don't know no worries, thanks for the initial details anyway.
@@ciscomoto Thanks for your comments, glad you found it useful. Yes normally they only accept marriage certificates that are less than 3 months old, although some managed to get away with their original certificate. So you would have to get a new certified copy from Florida and you would also have to get it legalised (apostille’d) by the US as only the country in which it was issued can do that. I’ve seen plenty of posts on Facebook groups from people who have done that so you should be able to find out exactly how to do it. The best fb site I’ve found for answers is After Brexit in Spain. Hope all goes well for you. 😎
Very good video, Good Man

If you are Retired, and want to live in Lanzarote, €38000 is a lot of dosh required per Year!
You’re right. It’s more than enough to live off but that’s the visa requirement.
That’s the problem, you have overpay yourself and suffer the tax burden
Alternatively, just move to Ireland for 5 yrs. No visa needed. Get a job in a bar or whatever, rent some digs.....wait 5 yrs ....and pick up an eu passport
You can but not if you’re skint and without health insurance. Which isn’t such a bad thing
exactly, its not nearly as easy, and you need to be backed up by decent wonga
@@1292liam yep 👍 I’d say that’s a positive ruling as it attracts only the wealth to Spain rather than those who will be a drain on resources.
Digital nomad visa very easy . If self employed start a company in uk and pay yourself a salary , that’s the way to go , that way you don’t need a plan 😀😀
In year 5 you do have an alternative to to the Spanish residency visa, the EU residency which allows you to move to another EU country. A few more hoops to go through but our solicitors are making all their clients away of this
@@Simon-jj2pu Thanks Simon. My next video is about long term residency at year 5, which is my next step so I’m getting all clued up on it. There used to be some confusion about the requirements but I’ll be exploring all that. Thanks again for your comment.
Top man so it is doable if you ve got the money makes me a bit angry though told everyone brexit was going to be a disaster!! (which it obviously is) Anyway fair play having guts to do it(move) and thanks a lot for spending time to educate us
Thanks for your kind comments. There’s not a day goes by when I don’t hate Brexit. It’s everything I knew it would be. We’re fortunate we have the means to make the move. I feel sorry for those who have had their dreams shattered, particularly younger people who have little chance now. Thanks again 😃
If you own property in Spain you must make a Spanish Will as UK ones are not applicable
Bilateral tax laws mean iht will kill u
We are currently looking at buying property in Lanza , is it best to start the ball rolling before we actually commit to the purchase , or buy a property and do all the required shinnanigens when we actually land ? Nice collection of Yaiza bottles ( the semi dulce is our favorite ) cheers for the vid 👍
Thanks for the comments. Yes we like the Yaiza wine - dry for us though. We came here and rented for a year while we looked for a property, although we knew what we wanted and where and we had been looking online beforehand. The problem now with doing that is long term lets are very hard to find on the island. if you already had a house here to move to it would probably be a big help, but it depends on your situation. I think that as the visa process is time critical, ie once you've got it you need to move within 3 months, having somewhere to go to, either rental or owned, will be one less worry.
What exactly is the "S1", is it the global health card we have?
The S1 is a document issued by the UK NHS overseas healthcare department, which gives you entitlement to free public healthcare as residents in Spain. UK pensioners and some others are entitled to it. It is different from the GHIC.
So if i show £36k of savings for year one, and only spend say £20k ..can i simply use the £16k that i didnt spend to a further £56k of savings to show £72k of savings for the next 2 year visa ?????? Thanks
@@waynekerrr9027 Yes. If you are relying purely on savings to prove sufficient funds it’s the amount you have at the time of your application. Bear in mind 36k is for a couple, 28.8k for an individual- and it’s the equivalent in euros not £.
@@HolaLanzarote2024 cheers 👍
Surely you have to supply an address where you will living before a visa is issued , that's the French system
@@lesblakeman We put the temporary address we were staying at on our application but they really just want to know which province you are going to live in.
No mention of taxation. How much worst off in Spain
@@ComeonWales Thanks for watching and commenting. The video is about how to get a visa not about taxation. As everyone’s tax circumstances are different I would suggest they get professional advice. However, it’s not all about taxation, it’s about how much better your life is and my life is much better here. From a personal point of view I am better off here than in the UK. Road tax, 16€ a year, council tax 420€ a year, light and heating 1000€ a year, no potholes in the roads to ruin my tyres, free bus travel, 75% discount on air fares and ferries, cheaper to eat out, no duty on alcohol, but overall a far better life.

Good video old chap... Would love to move to Lanzarote in a few years... I've been a Spanish resident for 10 yrs..
To get the Convenio Especial you must have been resident in Spain for at least 12 months so new arrivals under state pension age will need private health insurance for a year...

What a load of palaver you have to go through. Enough to put any UK citizen off sadly.
If you have an EU passport, I guess you only need to register as a resident at your local community?
@@skymanste7630 Yep- a lot easier if you have an EU passport. Shame we gave all that away.
@@HolaLanzarote2024 Thank goodness I have dual UK/DE citizenship.
@skymanste7630 me too. I am British/Polish and moved to Poland.
I’m gonna guess - Middlesbrough accent?
…..and if one blue bottle should accidentally fall….
You keep referring to 'euros' . There is no such word as euros, the plural of euro is euro. This is by agreement with all member states from the start, because only one member state speaks english and adding as 's' is not used in any other language. Do you talk about yens? I'll bet you don't.
If that’s the best comment you can come up with then that’s pretty sad. And BTW, you should have written ‘an’ rather than ‘as’.
Actually, Americans will say ‘Euros’ also because there is/are numeral(s) before it. It’s our natural way of saying it. Just like with ‘dollars’, ‘pesos’, ‘kronas (kronos)’, or ‘pounds.’ For most African and Asian currency, we do only say ‘yen’ or ‘yuan.’
And, yes, we do know it’s ‘euro’, ‘dollar’, ‘pound’, ‘krono (kronos)’, and ‘peso’ regularly. Variations exist depending upon the country/nation.
Meanwhile your Dutch, Belgian or German neighbour and follow pensioner is enjoying the sun…
Yeah but it's sovereignty init, 😂

or you can just get an EU pasport by 'citizenship by descent' if you have parents or grandparents from an EU country. Save all that Farraging about like a fat Johnson.
Thank you. But for those of us that can't go down that route sadly, this is what we now have to do.
I did that thanks to my Polish grandparents and live in Poland now. But the vast majority are simply British going back multiple generations with no ancestry from EU countries. Plus mine took 2 years during Covid and about £1200
I voted Brexit to curb boomers retiring abroad. Young people need their tax pound to STAY in Britain.
That went well! Many people who move abroad still pay UK tax but don’t use UK services.
@@HolaLanzarote2024 I've seen rant vids on here like "brexit ruined my retirement to the sun" so the situation is improving though ob we need the govt to go further and only pay state pension if you remain in Britain. Hopefully Keir will consider this as he doesn't need to chase the over 60s vote. There's also the prob of Indian people going back to India on a UK-sourced pension.
Of course! 90 days in 180 days.

now after crapxit how much do really need to say buy a livable property nothing extravagant in the canaries would 600k be enough including the nlv and money to live on ? even though my main issue atm is the accro check coming back listing one minor childhood conviction from 40 years ago and a caution,
in 2 years ill apply for accro, if it's to be it will worse scenario i'll opt for the 90 days still be better than all the rest of my life stuck on this rock day in day out
@@StOrMmaGiiKz Regarding house prices it depends where you are and what you want. In Playa Blanca a 2 bed 2 bath detached house with private pool will be in the region of 400k €. Something a bit smaller on a complex around 280k. Have a look at Idealista app or website and you’ll get a good idea. Around here they tend to go for around the asking price at the moment. If you are relying purely on savings to live on your nlv, you will need “sufficient funds’ for 5 years. After that they don’t require proof of that level of funds. So that means for a single person 28800€ x 5 and for a couple 36k x 5. That’s far more than you actually need to live on. We live very comfortably on less.
Re your ACRO I wouldn’t worry too much. ACRO uses what they call the step down model. This means old convictions that were not serious will not be disclosed, instead they say ‘no live trace’. It all depends on the seriousness of the offence, how old you were, how long ago it was and what the sentence was. From what you say it seems unlikely it would be disclosed. The ACRO website will tell you more. Wish you well for the future. 😎
@@HolaLanzarote2024 many thanks for your reply I’ve fallen in luv with Gran Canaria we go every year for a month but tbh anywhere in the canaries I’ll settle for within reason atm , prices have gone crazy since the pandemic and 600k doesn’t go far taking into account I have to buy somewhere to live firstly then live on savings until we pop our clogs
On the acro it’s been a thorn in my side but we shall see as said it’s minor offence but still a offence no amount of regret or remorse or reform dose the uk recognise even for a petty silly offence which is unfair considering Spain only wants the last 5 years, a fine of £20 pounds 40 years ago no harden criminal peer pressure stupidity, actually laughable now something not even worthy of a magistrate now a days but can cost someone much far more in the future I’ve now found out
I’ve looked into it and hopefully I might be lucky and they step it down but it’s out in my hands now and the Accro will determine my future
Many thanks again and all the best to you sir
