  • The longest video in the build review goes to perhaps the fussiest aspect - the landing gear.

The unbelievable hassle and frustration of these gear doors!!!! This is after I watched your awesome video on this build several times. I did indeed paint, weather and detail my doors before assembly and I'm positive that every possible curse, swear and vile insult has been hurled at this abomination. I had such high hopes for this one and it's become a source of utter mental torture!!!!!!

I have been slogging through the ‘Blue Angels’ release of this kit and I’m convinced they are cobbled together with spare or imperfect sprues .
The landing gear bay section didn’t fit anywhere near how Matts did in the video and on closer inspection had very slight deformities.
The intakes are a pig as mentioned and so is the crappy nose arrangement which has forced me to complete the build with the canopy open.
I’m just at the stage where I’m attaching the gear and doors etc but whilst I’m enthused by the subject I’m looking forward to clearing it off the bench.
Whilst not a shocking kit I would not recommend it for a beginner.

I just received this kit and looking forward t the build. However, I’m very concerned about the landing gear and bay doors, and I agree that prepainting these parts is worrisome considering the way it builds. I very much appreciate your build review. Personally, I’d like to see you build another, but this time seeing how you would tackle the painting with the build. Great, great series on the Hornet. Too bad Tamiya won’t tackle this subject.

You're not painting this fabulous model?

I wish I would have found your videos before building mine. Oh well, I did like you, swear and re-installed everything but at least, without damaging too much of the painted surfaces.
