    Zuko confronting Ozai is easily one of my top five moments in Avatar. A conflict that had been building for fifty-one episodes finally comes to a head. In general this episode has an insane number of plot points coming to a head.

      I understand some points, i'm bored of RWBY but not in that way. Pyrrra's death was not like that, i will not talk over all because i don't want RWBY for now and his fanbase tired me pretty much. xD
      Also because of her death, Ruby could froze the dragon and damage Cinder, etc.
      Jaune is okay, etc. The problem are the sister, Ruby, Yang and Oscar, God damn Oscar. I like him but omg his plot it's trash. xD
      The villains are good and dude, they literally broke all the heroes in volume 3. The heroes won in 5. What are you talking? Etc. Sry if i don't make all of my points.

    One of my personal favorite, but also underreported, aspects from this episode was the shot when Zuko is walking away from his father. If you recall, back in the first episode of the season, when Zuko is walking to Ozai's throne room, the camera does a close up on Zuko's scarred eye. However, when he's walking away, the camera is now focused on his normal eye. Zuko was still conflicted over right and wrong and what his real destiny was, but now, walking away, he knows where his true path lies and has found a sort of peace inside himself. Fantastic direction and writing.

    I know it wasn't in the cut, but Azula's "I am a 400-foot tall purple platypus bear with pink horns and silver wings" was just pure gold, most especially when Toph admitted that she was a good liar xD
    And gotta say though, Azula is agile as fuck!
    I like how when Ozai lightning-bends, he does it with two hands instead of one. Zuko redirecting that was sooo satisfying!! Ozai's face afterwards :P
    Overall, this two-part invasion was just amazing! I also loved how at the end of it, you could really feel the loss and how hopeless it was when the giant airships showed up and when the subs were bombed. The music was just spot-on!
    OH! I forgot to say this in the last one but in Part I of the invasion after Zuko left a letter on his bed, I loved how it showed him pulling his hood on and then turning to leave. If you remember back to "Zuko Alone", his mom did the same thing as she was leaving too! It's such a minor thing, but the parallels and symbolism!! xD

Also it's important to know the invasion was flawed before it even began, because Aang wouldn't have been able to kill Ozai even without his firebending, but explaining any further would be spoilers so for now going to love the hell out of the next following episodes.

    I couldn't help but notice in my second time watching this episode the duality presented in the cinematography. The scenes between Zuko and Azula appear back to back almost drawing a compare and contrast between the siblings. Azula is willing to sacrifice herself to save her father, as you had indicated she was powerless and could have easily been a casualty of war. Zuko on the other hand confronts his father during the eclipse and despite having the upper hand decides to grant him mercy.
    Also of note, I always assumed that Azula having only 2 bodyguards was purposeful as having too many would dissuade the gang from chasing her.

    At this point there was a long pause in the show, I don't know about the US but here in The Netherlands we had to wait for nearly a year for the last part of the season. After a couple of months Nickelodeon teased the fans with the "Avatar: Book 3 Finale Trailer", I remember a lot of fans screaming out of pure hype during a live airing of that trailer at the NYCC. It's up to you guys if you want to watch that trailer before watching the remaining episodes, I think you would enjoy it because it uses an amazing version of The Avatar theme that never got used in the show itself.

    • @imaaduddin7715
      @imaaduddin7715 8 лет назад +5

      Yeah in the US we almost had to wait around 7-8 months it was crazy and then they released that trailer which got everyone hyped, but then the whole story from episode 12-21 was done within 6 days, it was really weird, the reason for this was due to the dropping of ratings which is why there was a long wait and the last episodes were just rushed through in 6 days, and yeah the theme from the trailer was incredible, it's called Reincarnation

    I mean, the whole point of the Azula fight was to show that even without her powers she's a good fighter? They couldn't have killed her super easily in any case, as shown by how many times she evaded their bending. She studied their techniques quite extensively after fighting them so many times. The only reason Toph trapped her with that earth was because Azula knew the Dai Li would just destroy it for her.
    Bending isn't supposed to be an all-powerful skill that can instantly kill anyone around you with no window to evade or counterattack. Cause that would be boring!
    As for why the Gaang isn't just killing every enemy they meet, it Is a kid's show on Nick (sure, there have been instances of death but those have been few and far between. Even with the people on the balloons, their deaths are never shown so it's usually assumed they lived somehow) and the heroes themselves aren't really the type of people to just do that (especially Aang, who hates killing). Especially after spending an entire set of episodes talking about everyone's inherent humanity, including their enemies.

My favorite moment is not Zuko saying Iroh was more of a father to him, not Zuko redirecting the lightning, not Zuko's amazing speech about what he was taught when growing upl, and showing amazingly how fascism works, or anything like that. I love the whole scene, and those moments are all awesome, but my favorite moment honestly is when he says "Goodbye". I know it's such a tiny thing, but the way Dante Basco delivers that line in particular just sounds so awesome if you ask me. Lol Eric really wants the protagonists to fall in line with ideologies of the Punisher or something. If you really are behind that, you missed Aang's character all together. Even commentating that Toph should kill azula and Sokka even torturing her. Hell even delving into bloodbending as a good and useful power, no it isn't it is a curse and will never be used (I think) based on the protagonists view's, they are made as heroes not as vigilantes please don't mix it up.

    • @hunterclan2010
      @hunterclan2010 8 лет назад +22

      Lol Sokka killing, all the screen time of him in the invasion was disabling a gun turret and disabling a rhino rider, just because he's seemingly acting the part of a soldier, a damn good one I might add, all in all he's a scholar first, soldier second. Do you not remember the sand temple episode he was ecstatic of finding firebending tactics and knowledge the whole temple gave. And on the subject of Toph, that location was at a road where she "trapped" them, do you know what roads are used for?? People will find them in a couple hours plenty of time to get them out. Why In the hell do you think the youngest in the group has a passion for killing, out right murder is beyond me. Yes lets have the YOUNGEST of the group have scenes wheres she's killing. I wouldn't have a problem with it if thats what they wanted ultimately the writers of this series, but from all evidence Toph is no killer. Even "The Dragon of the West" Iroh should be the most morally slighted character in this series but he is not. hmm maybe that a clue for the theme this series is going for.

      Yes I will admit there were deaths in this battle even some made by our protagonists toward the enemy. Mainly Katara, but to say Toph is somewhat fine with enemy deaths something akin to a psychopath who doesn't feel anything who oppose them is a straight out lie. In one of the filler episodes she says she misses her parents and feels for them. (I admit passion was a bad word to use) but the outcome of her not feeling anything or maybe a little is a bad way to give light to Toph. She loves martial arts and defeating the enemy but that does not mean she literally does not give a fuck about enemies her character hides her emotions thats how she deals with her feelings. I mean if that was true she would have a lot of friction and I mean a lot having Aang as leader. She would be questioning every one of his moves. Think for example in her shoes, there you are facing a deluded and crazy Azula feeling her heartbeat and actually feeling throughout your entire body the death of her getting crushed her skull folding inward onto herself and the last frantic heartbeat ringing in your mind and lets have that thought that the youngest in the group is capable of that. If you still say yes she can do that then my opinion falls on deaf ears I guess.

    Here's why they don't kill Azula:
    1. They're not killers. That balloon they destroyed? It deflated slowly enough that the people inside probably didn't die. Even with the Firelord, their plan isn't to "kill" him, its to capture him. It's smarter to do it that way in any case. Why make a martyr out of him?
    2. Azula is a kid. She's 14, only two years older than Aang. You guys do realize that you're wanting for kids to kill another kid, don't you? Even if they were planning to kill the Firelord, that would be going a bit too far. Yeah, she's tried to kill them, but heroes are supposed to be better than the people they're fighting, aren't they?

    I've always loved Sokka and loved his journey into becoming the great warrior and strategist that he is, but there's a moment in this episode that I've only just caught just now, despite having watched the show numerous times! Last season when we met Jet, Aang and Katara kept teasing and putting down Sokka's "instincts." Of course, he turned out to be right about Jet. Fast forward to today, at the invasion, Sokka says "My instincts tell me he (Ozai) wouldn't go too far" and it's not just Aang and Katara but *everyone around him* who doesn't bat an eye, they all recognize and readily accept Sokka's intellect. It's such a great moment that's easy to miss because we're in the heat of battle, but it's such a testament to how far they've all come.

    I can understand your hate for Azula but you guys don't show enough appreciation for how evil and a badass she is, which is all she's supposed to be is evil. She's not supposed to be relatable (although if you relate to her you might need to get some help) and I just don't see why you keep on looking for a way for her to be likeable when the reason people like her is because she's evil and a badass (and voiced by Grey DeLisle). You appreciate all the great villains of every comic book show you guys watch, which you should because they're also awesome, and while some are relatable and that makes them greatas well, others are just evil because they're evil (like Azula) and you still appreciate them for being evil. I mean maybe you're just looking at Azula as just a cartoon character that you don't take as serious as others (which I doubt you are) but still, I wish you would just show a little more appreciation.

    Toph does not get many grand scenes in this season, but her almost taking the bullet for Sokka, when Azula regains her bending, says a lot about her character.
    Kinda disappointed with the editing on this one, they cut the infamous ,,favorite prisoner " line and the hilarious lie test, for scenes of them crossing the magma. Also Ozais elite guards look sick and the Azula hate train accelerates even further.

    A bit of trivia, here:
    The guy that Aang, Toph and Sokka encounter in the secret bunker has actually appeared two other times, once per past season. The dude's name is Qin, and he appeared in Book One's "The Northern Air Temple" as the debt collector of sorts to the professor before Aang chased him off and started the battle in the second half of the episode. In Book Two, he was the commander/overseer of the drill (appearing in "The Drill", obviously) busting through Ba Sing Se. Reason why he appeared in those circumstances was because of his title, "War Minister", which is granted to the head of Fire Nation research & development (R&D).

    And this is exactly why I watch Blindwave, not only for the funny shit that always goes down on this channel but for your guys opinions on certain situations and characters in the series. I have watched this entire series multiple times and have never yet once made the connect between the previous Firelord's death and Zuko's mom's banishment. I always just assumed the classic son wants to rule, king/lord/whatever thinks they dont deserve it or something to that extent so son kills father to gain power. But I have never, ever, thought of it in the way in which you presented. That adds a whole new layer to Zuko's past in relation to the firelord, Azula and their mom previously not discovered by me until now. Thanks Blindwave!

      siloPIRATE No you're right, he did strongly imply that she did vicious treasonous things that night but again it didn't click in my head, Not completely anyway. If it were to be so obvious than( Sorry Blindwave, stay away spoliers)
      Than why at the end of the series is Zuko so curious as to what happened to his mother when he already supposedly knew everything in this episode that Ozai knew. And Zuko states so she's still alive and Ozai Replies with perhaps. So he doesn't know of her whereabouts or if she is even still alive. So why ask the question if we really knew everything as people apparently keep stating to me in this thread and why ask if you know he doesn't have a clue as to where she is. And with the gain of his new found power as Fire Lord, you'd think he wouldn't need Ozai's help to find her or to figure out what had happened to her when she was banished. But yeah I really need to read that comic, just never got around to it.
