Interesting they have “1Up” for a blue vehicle power up instead of scoring, There seems to be a bit of Bump’n’Jump when you have to Jump in certain stages. Your guns now take the form of rotating turrets that can go in many directions and fire energy blasts able to handle any level of enemy as a car/boat. The one stage that amazed me was when you turned into an aircraft and fired a gun-spread like “Raiden” as well as guided missiles.
I had been looking for this game for years. I remember playing it 23 years back and forgot it's name. Thank you for posting this video. It's a great game.
This is a very rare game. I never saw this game once "in the wild" through years of searching for NES games in the early 2000s. The soundtrack is so amazing, just like all Sunsoft games. Great play through!
@@NintendoCompleteI just want to say thank you for all of your amazing videos that I've been watching for years. I really appreciate the great skill/time it takes to master and complete all of the games you finish across so many different genres. From one oldschool gamer to another, much respect and thank you. Have a great day everyone!
One of my all time favorite games and best birthday presents I ever got along with the NES that year, both of which I still have and play. I have no idea why anyone would play this game without using the computer tracker "C" power up. Took me over 10 years to beat this game. Now gamers have no idea how much easier they have it. Thanks for the video
Props to Sunsoft for this phenomenal game (and possibly trolling a few people with the "Super" moniker). Why we haven't gotten a collection featuring Sunsoft's all-star catalog on modern consoles is beyond me.
Thanks for the upload! I played this game under the name of "Desert strike" 20 years back! Never made it past 30:00. Damn those jumps are way tough! The video made it look easy to jump without taking enemy hits!
This game was awesome! I never completed it, but now I thank you for showing me the end! The furthest I ever got was Stage 6, I never beat this stage. The blue car was so cool, and you would avoid getting the red 'C' power up twice cause it stopped the cannons tracking the enemies? I was always afraid of the quick sand part, cause getting sucked into the sand was scary! Oh and the ping pong trick when you pointed the cannons downward, that was always fun to play. Great video, lots of memories, thank you! :)
Wow! I didn't know there was this game. I could have really gotten into this game. I didn't much care for Spy Hunter because it never ended, but this would have been up my alley!
This game effin rocks. It's balls to the wall the whole time, gameplay and music. And I remember the all-weapons cheat up up B right right B down B down B left left A start
This game also has a hidden roulette mini game, where you can win some extra lives for the game itself (A+B+Select, hold them while pressing start at the title screen, can start with up to 12 lives). It also has a hidden Pong game too.
They really were masters. I routinely put on the Gremlins 2, Batman, Batman Return of The Joker, Super Spy Hunter and Journey to Silius soundtracks and play them full blast on my speakers at home. Sunsoft were like the "metalheads" of the NES. Darker games and awesome riffs. I find that they made the best games alongside maybe Natsume. Anyways, that's just my 2 cents.
It was actually known as Battle Formula in Japan. I think when Sunsoft localized it, they got permission from Midway to use the Spy Hunter name. Everything about this game is phenomenal, especially the rotating and zooming effects. Sunsoft really pushed the limitations of the NES hardware beyond the maximum with this title.
They probably still had the Spy Hunter license at the time, since they are the ones who ported that arcade game to the NES. No this isn't truly Spy Hunter, but this game is fantastic, a true gem for the NES.
Back in the day, i was afraid of this game. The music, bosses, locations, it all felt so eerily strange, almost like an uneasy dream, but i still played it and enjoyed it as much as i could, this game was a racing dark souls of my childhood
I had forgotten the game's name and most of the game itself. I would recall few bits of the game, watching my big brother playing it back in the 90s. I remembered the moving truck bridge in the 1st stage, the quick sands in the 2nd, and the huge sky ship launching smart missiles. Had to watch RUclips videos of NES shootem-ups to finally find it.
Spy Hunter is a classic arcade game and this NES sequel is cool. The gameplay is great and there are a ton of power-ups. Graphics are good it a little bit washed-out. Good solied action that would be even cooler with the possibilities offered on the Super NES. And that music soundtrack is so Sunsoft all the way. I saw this game once throught years of finding for NES games in the 1990's and beyond.
This is indeed the same company that gave us _Mr. Gimmick/Gimmick!_ . I'm still trying to wrap my head around how masterfully Sunsoft programmed these games.
@@edwardgaines6561 Yes. According to Wikipedia, they used a specialized version of the FME-7 memory management controller (MMC) called "Sunsoft 5B" which utilized a Yamaha 2149 chip to add 3 additional sound channels. The concept reminds me of Konami's VRC6 chip that added additional channels to their games like the JP version of "Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse". If nothing I've just said make any sense, think of these chips as N64 Expansion Paks before Expansion Paks were a thing.
@@LPetal86 They did, but that was only in the Famicom versions. When they brought them outside of Japan, I believe they modified them to run using Nintendo's standardized MMC3 and MMC5 memory controllers. That's why the PAL version of Gimmick's soundtrack uses fewer channels than the original did.
I. Freaking. Love this game. It's "Spy Hunter," but better. Excellent graphics, awesome updates to the original game's gameplay and then there's that phenomenal soundtrack. I love Sunsoft OSTs and all, but this... *chef's kiss.* I even like the song transitions. They're smooth like butter and I can't think of any other NES game that does that. True to the name, this *IS* "Super."
Hey, if you have the time, could you make a video on Power Piggs of the Dark Ages on SNES? It was made by Radical Entertainment and published by Titus. I know that sounds like absolute disaster, but the game isn't bad.
Super Spy Hunter is one of the most impressive NES games out there, and that soundtrack is classic Sunsoft all the way.

I would like to know what kind of black magic they used.
Super Spy Hunter A+++!
It's called "Battle Formula" in japanese version

Best game on NES console , with lots of action pack
I had played one of the copies of this game which was called "desert storm". Took me a while to find the original game from my childhood.
Sunsoft were masters of the NES hardware.
And that's what put Blaster Master and the first Batman NES game on the map.
