I would love for the boys to see America first. I've crossed America via train in a sleeper twice. And via car once. All pre pandemic. Maybe a short overnight train trip in a family room with your own private shower, to Atlanta Aquarium or to New Orleans would be fun. The scenic southwest landscape is what I most enjoy.
