Matt was only allowed to start doing vocal exercises again in September to build his voice back up after 2 months of vocal rest, and creating a song as complex as Mad Hatter takes way longer than a few weeks.

I did not think of that. I thought those lines were just made to thematically tie into the story of John McLemore (a guy that had undiagnosed mad hatter disease and killed himself in 2015) that this song is based on, but this idea's pretty damn interesting. Same way man. Will always listen to them but ever since the rev left us all the band has been missing a certain sound. This song felt very 80'sish to me.
