When my grandpa passed we got a bunch of old beam decanters. Drank plenty of that weird sweet whiskey! We were teenagers so we were pretty thrilled. Miss you grandpa.
Another winner of an episode. You made out like bandits on a pure kitsch level. I'm like you two when you showed up for that class in New Orleans while everyone else was hung over. You dropped some knowledge on an historic artifact. Glad the bourbon was satisfying.
Most of the leaded decanters are 1974 and prior. The best thing about those dusty old beam decanters is that even though they are only 80 proof the pack so much more flavor than any 80 proof bottle made today. There are many factors that went into the better quality such as the lower barrel entry proof, the barrels consisted of older lumber, and were aged much longer than stuff today. This specific decanter being 100 months old probably contains a lot more older aged stock in the batch.
Thanks for the review and nice find this is a really good decanter. A friend of mine had a 71 Chevelle decanter he flipped it upside down and poured it into a reasonable size tupperware container so he didn't lose anything. Maybe try that next time.
Man that is very cool. If that was a 67 I'd be willing to buy it. My dad has my grandfather's 67 green mustang that he bought new. That would been a great gift for my dad. Great find...
cool video. my dream car growing up was a 64 1/4 mustang. one day I will complete that dream. but seeing a decanter of it was super cool. didn't know it even existed. cheers
My wife found 3 at a rummage sale for 20 each. A Beam 175 month in what looks like a carafe made of purple grapes, and 2 Old Fitz's from the 60s. One is a Prime with the horse on it and the other is the Jefferson Monticello. The Beam is definitely a cork so I'm worried about that one. The Old Fitzs are the ones where the bourbon pours into the topper and the "cork" is rubber or plastic. Beam is 86 proof, Prime can't tell because the label is worn off there, but the Monticello is 100. Haven't decided yet if I'm going to open any of them.
Tip down carry, partially serrated blade... Seriously, we need to have an intervention. 😂 Seriously though, my father has a Corvette JB decanter somewhere. I'll have to go see if there are any details on it during my next visit.
Earlier this year I found a Jim Beam Bowling Pin bottle, full with the seals intact. It's an 86.8 proof 8-year age stated bourbon carrying a Pennsylvania 1971-1972 stamp. It looks good, no cloudiness at all. I haven't opened it yet, but I will one of these days...
Very cool! I found a 1969 Camaro Jim Beam decanter a few years back and its unopened. Also found a 1979 Corvette decanter but it was empty. Great video.
Nice car! Bourbon is a bonus! When wine corks break we use cheese cloth to strain into a decanter …. Also a small plastic funnel would have fit up under the roof. Thanks
Ooohh this was a fun one. What a find! Even if the decanter was empty it’s still a cool find. Damn that looked really dark in the glass. Despite it not being the best flavor wise it’s history you’re drinking, that in itself is cool enough! And u get to keep the cool decanter.
I've got an unopened Ezra Brooks Snowmobile decanter that my late father had (he was into snowmobiles, not whiskey). 1972, I think. 12-year-old whiskey at 90 proof. Torn between trying the whiskey and maximizing any value the decanter might have by leaving it as is.
I would’ve turned the car upside down for a neater pour
I was thinking the same thing. Turn upright and pour while it's upside down but all in all, they did okay, haha.
I was yelling "flip it over, flip it over"
Turkey baster or smaller syringe.
What I was thinking.
I went to the comments to see if anyone else had the same thought. Turns out, yes.

These were popular gifts for Fathers Day - back in the day
A very cool find! I remember the Bug from the Fall meet-up...fun times...fun times 🤗
Nice show! Being a plumber I would have used a piece of tubing and siphoned it out:)

Super cool find! I really need to hit up more estate sales/antique shops and stuff to hunt for things like this. Cheers, guys.
Should have turned the car with the trunk pointing up, then poured from roof side. Looks like that’s how it’s supposed to go. Cool video!
We had a 1977 Jim Beam Glen Campbell Los Angeles Open Decanter, unopened, until we tried it. Best Beam we have ever had.

WHOA! Cool finds!

I was drinking Beam in the early 80s. I remember the semi decanter. Maybe I should have picked one up…

Great way to spend $40, that doesn't get you much anymore. Well done, great share!
You might consider buying a bottle pour spout for future use. They work quite well to prevent embarrassing and wasteful spills.
It was like half an oz. Who's embarrassed?

Love old Mustangs! Nice review! Possibly put a plate under the receptacle to catch the 1 oz lost

Put the container your pouring into upside down on top of the container you're pouring from then invert together.
If you guys probably use the bigger jar to put the car in probably would’ve worked better 😁 great vid tho !
very fun episode guys thanks for sharing
$40 bucks that’s a steal. Even if it’s empty
I have one of these that’s a red Mercedes SL that matches my 1973 450SL. It doesn’t have the juice in it anymore, though!

Lead doesn't leave your body, ever. So drinking the whole bottle slowly is not any better for you than drinking it quickly.
Very cool, thanks for sharing it with us.
Would be interesting to test the current proof of the whiskey with it being a little cloudy. Could have definitely lowered in proof over the years
Clearly the most important part of this purchase is the Little Chad now has a Mustang!
I love the car decanter!! It’s definitely cool 😎.
You can buy a tester to check for lead paint. Don't know if they would work testing whiskey.
Well if you want to share I'd take a sample. Lol. Never tried a dusty bourbon.
Love the opener. WHISKEY CHEERS 😎
I have one of the Mustangs and blue bottle VW beetle Jim beam decanters but I’m not brave enough to try the whiskey
My father in law collected those bottles and has dozens of them (empty). For whatever reason my wife won't let me throw them in the trash.
Turkey baster or other similar item.
Nice find
Nice CRKT drifter knife.
Should have used a mini hose to siphon it out it like a gasoline tanks on a car
"How else would you pour it?" Use a plastic or metal spout.....
Dixon Dedman tells a story about buying a box of chessmen decanters only to open and discover that they were obviously stored next to mothballs.
Yep, we've heard that story from him, scary!!
Way Cool.... Thanks for sharing
why didn't you screw on a kitchen hose for a clean pour?
Those wheels need some lube. Hopefully the contacts don’t suck.
Put a pour spout in it
Based on your thumbnail, I now know what was in Marcellus Wallace's briefcase.
Or next time use a funnel with long neck n call it a day
Can you test for lead? My understanding is that lead tastes sweet.
It tastes like maple syr... WAIT A MINUTE!!!
Kidding, but yeah, it was used to sweaten wines by the Romans back in the day.
Screw on a bar pour spout folks. Just a recommend, many years in restaurants and such. Should screw right on.
Why does your trunk smell like whiskey? Gotta pour it somehow!
Does the roof come off? 🚗
Makeup looks great
❤
From the comments i figured you'd have spilled a bunch of it. A little splash? Who cares
Car go *squeak*
PS use a siphon next time lol
If y'all need a REAL Mustang, let me know... It's a 2021 GT... 😁
A cheap Husky pocket knife… really?!
It worked for cutting the tax stamp, didn’t it? That’s all I ever use it for, so why not?
@@ItsBourbonNight ok, rule #1, the knife you want to use, the way you want to use it…don’t be a knife snob…my apologies.
